Each year our fantasy baseball league has each team draft 2 minor league guys since its a keeper dynasty league.

I took Mize with my 2nd round pick. ?

Tigers farm system is soooo much better than it was just a couple years ago.  Besides Mize throwing his no hitter today, 2017 top pick Alex Faedo threw the first 7 innings of a combined no hitter about a week for the AA Erie SeaWolves.  And keep an eye also on Matt Manning, Beau Burrows and Franklin Perez, all 3 are progressing very very nicely on the farm.

Between Mize, Manning, Faedo, Perez and Burrows in the minors and Matthew Boyd, Spencer Turnbull, Joe Jimenez, Shane Greene (and Michael Fullmer, too if he gets healthy and  returns to form), there's a lot to like with the future of Gardenhire's pitching staff.

Lions got screwed by having 3 top 3 picks in a row at the end of the last CBA. Could you imagine how good they'd be if the year they had Stafford, Suh, and Megatron all on rookie contracts? As opposed to taking up close to half the cap space? Probably could have gotten a quality line and some quality defensive players. What could have been

Boyd and Greene are gone at trade deadline tho, right? Serious question.

It's tempting to get excited about the Tigers even this year(in stretches), but I don't think management gives 2 squirts of piss about our record at the end of this year.  We are still in rebuild mode, afaict.

I guess as a fan, I'm wondering if we've bottomed out and are ascending, but pretty sure they still move experienced players that have value for ??? whatever year it is that they think the youngsters will be ready for prime time.

Greene is for sure gone, Boyd maybe. Gun to my head, I would say they are more likely to trade Boyd than keep him, though he could be a good piece to keep around through the rebuild. He's not a front-line starter, but he's solid, steady, and by all accounts is a good dude to have in the locker room. And his contract is very manageable.

Edit: Looking at those contracts, it is unbelievable to me that Jordan Zimmerman is making $25 mil/year. Just crazy.

when  he was promoted to AA this year, i think he had only given up one run all year.  wonder if that is still the case.  pretty damn good.  lotsa arms down there on the farm.

Yes, been keeping an eye on him. I live in Cleveland, and Mize is scheduled to pitch in Erie on Saturday. Planning to see him now while I can. If he keeps up his current pace, he won't be in AA for long.

I doubt he gets promoted to Detroit this year though. If Detroit was in contention, then maybe. But there's no point in starting his pro clock now, in an uncompetitive pro season. Move him up to AAA once he's ready, and let him stretch out his innings there. Then start next year in Detroit and begin the ROY campaign.
