OT: Tigers top prospect Mize throw no hitter.
AA debut. The future looks bright with him and some of the other young pitching.

Time to trade him for a utility infielder!
Each year our fantasy baseball league has each team draft 2 minor league guys since its a keeper dynasty league.
I took Mize with my 2nd round pick. ?
Well played sir. Mize looking legit and our future staff is really starting to shape up. Manning starting to figure it out. Faedo seems to be moving past last seasons disaster. Hope Franklin can finally get healthy. The position players on the other hand, not so much.
If you're not already, keep an eye on Tarik Skubal also. His professional numbers are insane across this year and last. 55.2 IP, 63 K, 9 BB spanning rookie ball to high-A.
Looks like they're gonna try to turn him into a starter. He had a rough outing but otherwise looks like he should be in the mix. 31K in 23 IP so far this year which is pretty insane.
Well Cameron should be our starting CF with the big league club right now. I don't know why everyone thinks Jacoby Jones has such upside when he hasn't produced at any level
Hold up a minute on Daz. He's hitting a whopping .203 in Toledo with minimal power. 25 K's in 79 at bats so far. Let's give him a little time to develop a little further, and let's see next spring.
Pretty soon? Maybe. But not yet.
Tigers farm system is soooo much better than it was just a couple years ago. Besides Mize throwing his no hitter today, 2017 top pick Alex Faedo threw the first 7 innings of a combined no hitter about a week for the AA Erie SeaWolves. And keep an eye also on Matt Manning, Beau Burrows and Franklin Perez, all 3 are progressing very very nicely on the farm.
Between Mize, Manning, Faedo, Perez and Burrows in the minors and Matthew Boyd, Spencer Turnbull, Joe Jimenez, Shane Greene (and Michael Fullmer, too if he gets healthy and returns to form), there's a lot to like with the future of Gardenhire's pitching staff.
Helps when you suck ass and get top draft picks a few years in a row.
the Wings, Pistons and even Lions could all benefit long term with the same approach.
I thought you were dead. What are you doing here?

Don't you know? When zombie leaders are "retired" they move on to sports commentary on random message boards. I thought everyone knew that.
That explains Maizen.

Tigers only have two picks in the top half of the first round for the last decade, Mize at #1 and Manning at #9.
They do have another one coming this summer.

When have the Lions not picked early?
Don't confuse shitty drafting with picking late.

Lions got screwed by having 3 top 3 picks in a row at the end of the last CBA. Could you imagine how good they'd be if the year they had Stafford, Suh, and Megatron all on rookie contracts? As opposed to taking up close to half the cap space? Probably could have gotten a quality line and some quality defensive players. What could have been
UH...have you already forgotten what the Lions did this weekend?
And if you have...how did you do it? I need to know.

Boyd and Greene are gone at trade deadline tho, right? Serious question.
It's tempting to get excited about the Tigers even this year(in stretches), but I don't think management gives 2 squirts of piss about our record at the end of this year. We are still in rebuild mode, afaict.
I guess as a fan, I'm wondering if we've bottomed out and are ascending, but pretty sure they still move experienced players that have value for ??? whatever year it is that they think the youngsters will be ready for prime time.
Greene is for sure gone, Boyd maybe. Gun to my head, I would say they are more likely to trade Boyd than keep him, though he could be a good piece to keep around through the rebuild. He's not a front-line starter, but he's solid, steady, and by all accounts is a good dude to have in the locker room. And his contract is very manageable.
Edit: Looking at those contracts, it is unbelievable to me that Jordan Zimmerman is making $25 mil/year. Just crazy.
Not sure about Burrows just yet. The potential and the pedigree are certainly there, but he needs to improve his command. Still, I love the competition and that there are a bunch of arms making their way to the top of the farm system.
Have we given up on Norris? I really wanted that guy to succeed. I guess living in a van in a Walmart parking lot doesn't lead to sustained success in the Majors.

when he was promoted to AA this year, i think he had only given up one run all year. wonder if that is still the case. pretty damn good. lotsa arms down there on the farm.

Yeah. 35 innings, 8 hits, 1 walk, 1 run, 32 strikeouts. I don’t know if that includes tonight or not.
That's an awesome stat line.
And the big club is going to need all the shutouts they can get as their bats can't hit for shit.
20 strikeouts and two lousy hits on Sunday. Just plain awful.
And that was the 4th time in my lifetime that this organization has struck out 20 times in a 9 inning game.

Well this was his first start in AA and he threw a no hitter so... They sure are loaded with some exciting pitching prospects. Now they need some major league bats.

Yes, been keeping an eye on him. I live in Cleveland, and Mize is scheduled to pitch in Erie on Saturday. Planning to see him now while I can. If he keeps up his current pace, he won't be in AA for long.
I doubt he gets promoted to Detroit this year though. If Detroit was in contention, then maybe. But there's no point in starting his pro clock now, in an uncompetitive pro season. Move him up to AAA once he's ready, and let him stretch out his innings there. Then start next year in Detroit and begin the ROY campaign.
Agree, they need one more top pick and can't afford Mize screwing it up for them. Let him destroy the confidence of every prospect in the minors first, then bring him up in 2020 to take over the world.
