OT -- Tigers Opening Day question

Submitted by PeteM on April 5th, 2023 at 12:02 PM

I haven't been for years, but a friend and I are thinking about going to the Tigers' opening day tomorrow. I don't really care where we sit since it's more for the event than the game, but prices start around $90 right now. If anyone here goes to the game regularly (and/or buys tix in the secondary market) I'd be interested in advice about whether to wait, or if prices are unlikely to get better. Thanks in advance.

Wow I just bought 3 tickets to the June 13th game against the Braves for $44 each and I'm sitting behind the Tigers dugout.

Of course a random Tuesday night game won't draw the crowd that the home opener will.

I bought the three pack of tickets at Christmas where it was three tickets for $60 in Section 144 (under scoreboard in LF). Included opening day, game against the Mets in May, and game against the White Sox in June. Best deal I could find, especially considering where seats are.

(Normally for July / August games I wouldn't be caught dead for day games in the lower LF seats by the bullpen-- it's a legit 200 foot long broiler under the summer sun. But for early season games where constant sun is a welcome to keep body temps at a nominal range, yep it's good)

Home opener is easily the most expensive ticket of the season. If you don't want to pay the price now, best bet is to wait until under 30 minutes to first pitch and check for the instant digital transfer tickets on Stubhub or Tiqiq. Make sure you're also looking for standing room tickets when you search.

I truly believe the only answer is Right Field Balcony and Right Field Tables.

You get a waitstaff, or at least, you did. A special menu only for that area that you can order from. You get a table. You get security making sure nobody without the correct ticket is in that area. You're right next to a bar. You're right next to a little used bathroom. You are right next to a "gift shop". You can walk up to the upper level and use the concessions up there with no wait. They have(had?) a daiquiri station(WHALE BONES!) right next to the hot dog stand.

They are not the least expensive tickets, but they also are not the most expensive. I never sit anywhere else.

I go to opening day often. Prices will drop but, historically, not much. If you want to sit somewhere with decent seats I would buy them now.

Not sure what site you're checking on but SeatGeek is now the official resale site for season ticket holders. Tickets there are cheaper than $90.

if you don't go often, just spurge. or hell, go saturday. tix will be cheap, weather should be a little warmer and you have sunday to recover.

My advice- that I learned the hard way- don't buy a ticket from a shady looking guy on a bicycle. Lets just say I didn't get in the game and ended up losing a bunch of money at Greektown Casino instead.

For Opening Day, you might get them a little cheaper tomorrow morning, but likely not much. I would just go with $90 or maybe a bit higher if you want better seats. The experience in and around Comerica Park is rather cool at the home opener regardless, so it might be worth it for that alone.
