OT: Texas High School to Build 12,000 Seat, $63 Million Stadium
And the voters actually approved this! I love me some football, but wow, this is dumb. They are actually using the same line that has been disproven in most cases vis-à-vis PRO stadiums - building this will spur local economic development.

I did giggle a little when I thought how happy EMU would be to draw 12,000 actual fans to a game...

You have a badass University Football team right at home! ;)
Unless you meant Midland, TX. Then, sorry.

I can still remember hearing the marching band practicing every morning as I lived just a few blocks away from Robert E. Lee High. But, 18,000 seat stadium Grande Communications isn't too shabby for Lee High.
They looked seriously at purchasing at Rynearson Stadium, but negotiations broke down. This quote from the h.s. athletic director is telling:
We got into advanced discussions with Eastern Michigan University, but after extensive negotiations with the Board of Regents, we determined that EMU was not acting in good faith. Hell, we even signed a letter of intent! But the transaction broke down in the due diligence phase.
In particular, we made no less than five requests for a color picture of their FieldTurf, but EMU refused to comply with our request for a color shot.

with Texas rewriting their school books, no one is smart enough to know this is dumb.
Is this the same text book where slavery is classified as "16th century immigration patterns" and Jesus rides a dinosaur with Washington across the Delaware???
that called Harriet Tubman the most notorious human trafficker in American history.
All I know is, starting in a few years, it's gonna be "all about the Tubmans"...

+1 Funny. And by funny, I mean completely true.
I think part of the price tag comes because James Vanderbeek and Paul Walker have committed to quarterback the team in perpetuity, and Ali Larter will be a cheerleader until the strongest sports bra in the world can no longer offer adequate support...
"a mouth is a mouth"
Must be the waterfall in the locker room.
When do the Texas High Schools start their national satellite camps?
Someone's used car dealership or the local Applebee's will take care of that.

Have you ever been to Texas? They have built a ton of new schools there and each has a gorgeous football stadium. They are nutso boingo for football I have to hand it to 'em.
Voters approving this doesn't suprise me in the least.

That's on the order of the cost to build a 2,000 student high school.
A foolish town and its money is soon parted. Wise parents would be wise to, well, leave.

These prices are in Northern VA in the DC area which is an expensive area.
You can probably build two high schools in TX for $63 million.
Back in the 1990s, they built a new high school in our town (western suburbs of Chicago) for roughly 3000 students and it cost $90M. It's a very nice high school, but it's certainly not gold plated. You don't just build walls and stick chalk boards on them anymore.
They practically invented corruption out there.

Looks like there is a little stadium arms race going on down there with a $62M stadium and another $60M stadium recently completed.
Oh well, it's their money.
Looks like 3 great places for Harbaugh to hold satellite camps in.

The amount of schadenfreude I had when the stadium in Allen had to be shut down almost immediately after opening because of cracks in the foundation.
Oil prices are down & Mother Russia has to watch the cash!
Rutgers is jealous.
Interesting how this one seats only 12K, the one recently opened and later condemned in Allen, TX has capacity for something like 35K and the price tag was about the same.
The reason these cost so much for their capacity is that they are essentially pro or major college stadiums in miniature, with elaborate press boxes, luxury suites and the like.

Don't be surprised if the $10 gets you a spot in the standing room section.
$10 might cover the parking.
pay $10 to watch a high school game. $5 is plenty to ask to watch and about as much as I would pay.
the one recently opened and later condemned in Allen, TX
Wait, what?
You're going to just slip that little gem past us . . . recently opened and later condemned?!?!
WTF was that all about?
I am not sure where those seating numbers came from, but Allen's stadium holds nowhere near that. A couple thousand more than this one. However construction prices have increased and the infrastructure to build this stadium is a bit more than the Allen location.
At least it's for 3 high schools and not one. Aren't high school seasons only like 9 games which means a school might only have 4 home games?
