OT: Texas A&M to SEC per Orangebloods.com and AggieYell.com
Didn't see this anywhere. Sorry if it's already up.
Per Chip Brown: Texas A&M to SEC as early as next week. To be clear, no vote has been made yet, but the votes are there.
Also, see the top article on AggieYell.com (Rivals affiliate).
OU will also be going to the SEC West. http://www.ktbs.com/video/23866126/index.html
That seemed like Heupel was cracking a joke and the TV station ran with it to me. Everything I've heard today strongly indicates that OU is going to the Pac-10, so that would be both a huge shock and very strange way for the news to break.
TexAgs is still mum on it, and it's my opinion that they have better sources than AggieYell or OrangeBloods, but it is definitely trending that way. Over the weekend it's gone from 90-10 to the Pac-10 to 50-50.
Either way, official confirmation is going to take a while. Texas law says that 72 hours notice is needed to hold a meeting of the Board of Regents, and one hasn't been announced yet. I suspect we'll have a pretty firm idea Monday or Tuesday, but nothing will be set in stone until Thursday or Friday.
so if Okla. and A&M go to the SEC, does that increase the odds of Texas to the B10?
Obviously this would be the final nail in coffin for the Big 12. I do not get the impression Texas would go to the Pac-10 without Okla. or A&M (or both). So considering the compatibility, would this not bode well for Texas and the Big 10 to hook'em up?
Been there, done that.
Maybe we WILL get Texas if all this turns out to be true.
If Delaney is willing to bite the bullet and offer OU as well as Texas odds increase IMO.
I think they might have to offer Tech and OSU as well. I'm beginning to strongly suspect that Texas doesn't see Tech as a problem; just the opposite. They really want to be a conference along with a block of votes that they can count on. Hence their strong desire to go to the Pac-10 and take OU, Tech, OSU and A&M or Kansas with them.
It's not just the "block of votes" thing. It's also schedule related. They want a Big XII South schedule. They're making arguments for a 7-game conference schedule to move to the Big Ten. In short, Texas wants the Big Ten/Pac-10 brand so to speak without, you know, playing Big Ten or Pac-10 teams.
This is why Kansas just moved ahead of Utah in the pecking order should A&M bolt to the SEC.
I couldn't disagree more. A&M has always been their number one rival/partner and closest instate peer academically. If they're parting ways I doubt they're that tied to Tech and OSU (who isn't even a rival).
Texas are doing everything they can to keep A&M alongside. They aren't just letting them walk away (see: Texas threatening to end the ~100 year football rivalry if they part ways).
Come on, Texas. Let us rescue you from the hicks.
This guy has been throwing out some crazy shit (it seemed) and it's all coming to fruition in terms of the conference realignments.
There has been lots of speculation, but many pieces of speculation have turned out to be true. Amazing work done by this guy. I can't wait to see what the conferences look like when it's all said and done.
What has come to fruition from this guy besides Nebraska being on a deadline?
He said CU wouldn't get an invite to the Pac-10 unless UT was coming with....incorrect
He said that the Big 12 South would jump to the Pac-10 the moment that Nebraska left...incorrect
He said that UT has not had ANY contact with the Big 10...Seriously? Anyone who thinks that the Big 10 either forgot or ignored the most valuable college football brand in the country in their expansion process is a complete fool.
I'm not saying that A&M won't end up in the SEC, but this guy is not the golden source of expansion info that everyone is making him out to be. I personally believe that after he correctly reported the Nebraska deadline that UT and company started using him to leak information they wanted leaked...but that debate is for another day.
Edit: Also, he tweeted yesterday to refute the story posted by the OP. http://twitter.com/ChipBrownOB/status/16103773967
exactly. Chip is completely being used by the UT admin and Big XII administration, even if doesn't realize it. Purplebookcat at northwestern's rival site, before he was cut off by the big ten, has on the ball much more than chip.
I'm just pissed that now my primary source of info is frankthetank's twitter (updated 20+ times a day for those that don't know) because they cut off PBC. I'm hoping that today or Tuesday is the big day as many people have made it out to be.
I completely agree. To a certain extent, he's been on, but I agree with Frank the Tank in that the information he is being given is largely a smoke screen fed to him via Texas.
It has been widely known that the Pac 10 was going to go after Colorado and Utah. Colorado is going, and guess what team is popping up to take one of the "5" teams spot if one of them doesn't go? Utah.
Texas A&M has discussed a move to the SEC for awhile now too, and has been brought up even before Chip was reporting it.
I DO think he is getting his information from Texas, but I think he's just being taken for a ride. I don't think he really minds either since he's getting tons of national media attention in the process. Personally, I take what he says with a grain of salt.
I still don't believe they would go to a different conference without Texas. I'm shocked they would want to diminish that rivalry.
Me too.
I know there are non-financial reasons for Nebraska and CU to leave, and for Mizzou to be unhappy with things, but at the end of the day I think this comes down to Texas having the preeminent financial position in the conference, and the unequal distribution of revenue really stuck in the craw of most of the other members, regardless of whatever the dollar difference was.
I just can't believe that there would have been any impediment to establishing a Big 12 TV network along the lines of what the Big Ten has done, except for UT's disinterest in sharing the loot equally. I guess the Texans consider doing that socialist or communist, but it's one of the crucial factors in keeping everybody in the Big Ten reasonably happy. The B12's combined media markets may not have matched the B10's, but the combination of the huge TX market with those of Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis, and everything else in OK, NEB aren't chopped liver.
Rivalries aren't that important when it comes to making money and putting your school in the best position to succeed in the future

Texas is at least considering staying in the Big 12 with this tailor-made plan by commish Dan Beebe. Guess we'll see how bad A&M wants to be in the SEC.
