OT: TAM Fr WR suspended indefinitely after drug arrest.
A Texas A&M freshman has been suspended from the team indefinitely after being arrested on drug charges. That sounds bad, but...
His neighbor, who I'm going to guess had a gripe with him, called police after smellng marijuana from the balcony above. What a douche! Police came and requested entry. They were denied SO THEY GOT A SEARCH WARRANT!
They found 48 grams of edibles which is a felony and 0.05 ounces (that's almost none!) of marijuana, a misdemeanor
Texas is wack!
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:51 PM ^
Its Texas where they have strict laws for some people and lesser enforced rules for good gawd-feerin’ white people.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
Exactly. Which is how Joe Rogan can smoke weed on his show, shot in Texas, and not face charges. Well, that and he's a useful idiot for agitprop.
If I were a talented high school senior with my pick of colleges nationwide that enjoyed some of the many benefits of cannabis, I simply wouldn't go anywhere in Texas.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
And Stay away from Florida schools too.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:46 PM ^
Guys, this is a university decision. I will bet 4723 dollars this will not even get to a grand jury.
September 2nd, 2023 at 8:05 PM ^
I am not a lawyer, but why would something like a marijuana charge involve a grand jury?
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:16 PM ^
Puzzling that less than a week after the Texas A&M University police announce they will not be arresting for non-violent possession, they arrest this non-violent dude for possession.
September 2nd, 2023 at 10:30 PM ^
Most Ada’s in the majority of Texas county’s don’t even take these cases. That said, an arrest is up to the police. The ADA makes the call on prosecution.
September 3rd, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
So either Texas cops are violent rogue nitwits that like wasting taxpayer money or the ADA is toothless and can't get the cops under control.
Your arguments for Texas being a place unworthy of scorn aren't super convincing.
September 3rd, 2023 at 10:09 AM ^
I live in Texas and it’s being ridiculous. The way things work here, things like marijuana law changes require it to go through the TX house and senate and then be signed in by the Governor. You can’t simply get something like this put on a ballot and have the people vote… if that were the case marijuana would be legal here. All that’s passed thus far is medicinal marijuana at tiny amount of THC and for VERY limited conditions.
In order for laws to move through the senate, the lieutenant governor has to move them to committee/votes etc. The current Lt Governor opposes ALL marijuana reform. So this past session there were two great reform bills that past the republican majority house with much support. One would have expanded medicinal marijuana to other ailments. The second would have reduced possession of small amounts of MJ to something akin to traffic ticket where the offender would come in and pay a fine rather than a felony. Lt Gov Dan Patrick (not the sports one) blocked both from moving through the senate. This was the third straight session (2019, 2021 and now 2023) that the house has passed a form of decriminalization… and Patrick has blocked it. It’s all beyond fucked.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:52 PM ^
Damn, that neighbor better watch out for being a snitch. Maybe they're a Longhorn fan.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
Lol Texas sucks. Best decision we made was leaving that sweltering hellhole.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
I can't believe we're locking people up for MJ. Thought for sure with the massive wave of state legalization, the overwhelming support in polling, we'd get some changes federally a long time ago. Just one more reason having mostly 60-90 year olds in congress is a bad idea.
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:08 PM ^
It's Texas. You obviously haven't paid any attention to the politics of Texas. That's the Devil's weed, and the Devil will getcha!
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:33 PM ^
Don't do drugs kids.
September 2nd, 2023 at 10:33 PM ^
Kids shouldn't do drugs
Everyone else should
As long as they're not the physically addicting kibd
September 3rd, 2023 at 11:46 AM ^
I am sure the hundred's of thousands of US citizens who have died to a fentanyl overdose agree with you.
September 3rd, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
I'm not a scientologist, but I'm pretty sure fentanyl falls under that "not the addictive kind" disclaimer DB mentioned.

The whole state of Texas blows.

What a burn. Michigan is a great state. Other states are great as well. If this is news to you, I feel sorry for you.
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:10 PM ^
Other states are great! Like the Great State of New York, where I am from. Like the People's Republic of Vermont, where I now live. Not Texas though. Texas fucking sucks.

you are correct, you probably wouldnt enjoy it.

Flat, hot, and dry.
Ridiculously hot.
JFK murdered there. Majority of Texans happy about this at the time.
Awash in oilmen--hello global warming.
Terrible history of racism--Anglo settlers seceeded from Mexico because Mexico wouldn't let them keep their slaves. The REAL history of Texas Rangers. It ain't like that Chuck Norris show. Read up on it.
Celebrates co-opted Mexican culture (gaucho culture = cowboy culture right down to the hats) while hating on Mexicans.
Your current Governor.
You're right. I've actually been to Dallas. It sucked. Texas fucking sucks.
September 2nd, 2023 at 8:06 PM ^
Climate: Michigan gets cold. Texas gets hot. Congratulations on describing differences in latitude.
Latin Americans are already close to the majority. We are doing just fine with my fellow Latino population.
Texas, like Detroit and all of the NE, has a troubling history with racism. I fail to see why this makes Texas more bad than other States.
what is wrong with celebrating Mexican culture. Texas was once apart of Mexico. The hats that your reference have a practicable solution to the sun. It is a matter of function. Further, are you trying to diminish Texas contribution to cattle production? That would be an odd take.
JFK: weird take. Was almost killed in Miami a week earlier. Texas carried JFK in 1960. There are multiple videos of Dallas citizens crying after the assassination. Texas had little to do with what caused that tragedy, other than the setting.
Energy, including oil, is vital. The amount of world population living on hydrocarbon fertilizer is over 50%. As stated above, Texas is doing great on renewable energy production.
The Texas rangers have had plenty of controversies. For the wrong condemn. They have also done so much good for all Texans, regardless of color. Our entire nation has had a troubling record with law enforcement.
You are clearly projecting to the “other” to avoid analyzing your own environments problems. You are simply another useful idiot being told by our corporate tied government what to think. Take the blue pill bro.
Vermont should apologize for its cheese (thank you for smoking reference)
September 2nd, 2023 at 8:27 PM ^
Ugh, now you're co-opting The Matrix, a film made by two trans siblings--when Texas is known as unfriendly to the LGBTQ community. But...whatever, okay. Greg Abbott's Texas is a virtual paradise unless you need to have an abortion or you're a teacher discussing that troubling racial history in a classroom with students. You may be fine with the Latino population, but your governor is so hysterical about it that he wants the military on the border to shoot migrants on site. And how are you celebrating green energy AND oilmen in the same breath? And lots of places are "tech hubs." Like Burlington, VT. Stop taking those blue pills--someone is slipping you Quaaludes painted blue.
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
You are politically projecting. Boston had really embarrassing marches where people exhibited violence against gays. That doesn’t make the state of Massachusetts bad. This event in Massachusetts was bad. Let’s be adults here. I’m sorry Abbot is living rent free in your head.
Energy wealth is not a problem. Sorry. Automotive industry wealth is not a problem. Tech wealth is not a problem.
it is easy to celebrate energy generation of fissile and alternative in the same breath. Very easy. I will ask you, what is your problem with conventional energy production? The very device you have in your hand is impossible without it.
Take a breath dude. Spend some time with loved ones. Greg Abbot has no bearing on your life. You have a huge impact on your life. If you feel immigrant relations are bad, get involved. Do good. Have a drink or a toke and relieve yourself from the blue tie- red tie paradigm.
i will meet you in the middle, every year, random lottery and 5/50 governors are banished to Bolivia. Would make things interesting. ( mostly joking)
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:59 PM ^
lol--you're the one who made a huge deal out of a six word comment. Seems like you're one who needs to chill. You been at this all afternoon and all evening--you can't let it go. Hey, you love Texas and that's great. I'm just happy I don't have to live there, so stop trying to sell me on it. That's really my only point.
September 2nd, 2023 at 10:16 PM ^
You said all of Texas blows. That is ignorant. Own it bro
September 2nd, 2023 at 11:55 PM ^
And you brought up the state's wind farms, proving him right. Own it bro.
September 3rd, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
Wind farms don’t blow. That would be the wind
September 3rd, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
Texas blows. The wind farms just make the most of it.
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:21 PM ^
I think perhaps you are misunderstanding the history of Juneteenth if you put that one in the yay Texas column.
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:38 PM ^
The Juneteenth movement originated and grew from Texas. What terrible ending the holiday celebrated, doesn’t mean the celebration of the horrible thing is bad. Yeah the US for ending 3 thousand years of sanctioned slavery. A terrible, uniquely human institution.
September 2nd, 2023 at 10:26 PM ^
I would love to know who negged the celebration of ending slavery.
September 3rd, 2023 at 11:39 AM ^
Good job completely ignoring context. Ted Cruz would be proud.
September 2nd, 2023 at 10:03 PM ^
Yeah, celebrating the end of slavery in Texas as enforced by the occupation of Union troops. But Greg Abbott doesn't want your kids to know that. Uhhh...yeah...hurray for Texas!
September 2nd, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
All of this history is at everyone’s fingertips. Take your fingertips and release some frustration
September 3rd, 2023 at 7:28 AM ^
Vermont yes. Not New York though New York sucks.
September 3rd, 2023 at 1:31 PM ^
"The whole state of Texas blows."
Childish, emotive, hysterical.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
I wholeheartedly disagree with the law and think it’s overkill, and the double standards of law enforcement is a separate issue that regards class or race, yet I’ve never understood how if you know there are states with differing laws and perceptions regarding weed you’d hold that much in your possession or consume that much to jeopardize yourself. You’re given a gift to play D-1 football and make money off it, get a free education, and you got to pick where you do it from. Least be aware of your surroundings I guess is all and protect yourself.
*end of rant
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
Its mutual not a gift...the schools are raking in billions, the states too. I wish these young men would band together and sit out games in protest to this BS. Then we would see who is really getting the gifts and making the real money.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:32 PM ^
By "that much" you mean essentially ~2 Rice Krispie treat edibles and ~1-2 joints worth of flower? I moreso question the critical thinking skills of a group of individuals that tosses it into the bathroom garbage can instead of flushing it down the toilet just inches away.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:16 PM ^
Police wanted entry, were denied so they had to go get a warrant…and they didn’t think to flush the evidence before they came back?
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:42 PM ^
48 grams of edibles would do substantial damage to the plumbing. Smart move!
September 3rd, 2023 at 12:04 AM ^
48 grams of edibles is literally my daily breakfast. It's less than 2 ounces.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:20 PM ^
I'll never understand why Texas, a state in which people are always complaining about how the government should never encroach on everyone's freedom to do whatever they want, hasn't evolved to legalize MJ yet. They are so stuck in the past. And that neighbor that snitched has to be a real a$$hole.
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:25 PM ^
Just between us, hypocrisy and righteousness are not mutually exclusive. I've lived there and can say this is particularly true in Texas.
