OT- Sunday Funday

Submitted by itsbigcat on
A few months ago, a couple buddies and I decided that it was time to take Sunday back from the clutches of the early week. No longer would Sunday be a day to simply prepare for the week to come, but the penultimate day of rest, relaxation and, well, drinking. It's well known around my house, between my wife and I, that after a few post work rounds, I will faithfully be home promptly Monday through Friday, and on Saturday, I can step out for the M game, but I'm due back quickly after. But Sunday? Sunday is Funday. Who else in the MGOCommunity enjoys this tradition as well? We have Friday and Saturday drinking threads, but I think I'm going to start a Sunday Funday one for those of us weekend warriors who aren't ready to give it up until right about dinner tonight. So, what are you drinking/doing? How are you celebrating this sweet day or rest, relaxation, and drinks?

I'm 30 and the old people not retiring thing is really an epidemic.  It's creating a log jam of old timers that is preventing younger people from moving up the ranks and making entry level jobs available to recent grads.  And real talk, they don't merit their pay grade.

If you're 55-60 and are working because you need the money, you're probably not an asset to the company.  You worked during the greatest wealth creation period ever and if you'd just have put 25% of your income into a DJIA index fund, you'd be comfortably retired.  Instead, you made poor decisions and still have to work while your life clock ticks into the late 4th quarter.

And don't get my started on those people who work because they don't have any other hobbies.  Talk about living blissfully ignorant in American matrix for your entire life.

Welcome to the club. I am planning on applying to finish my PhD after this school year. I don't know how any person my age can support a family on a teaching salary.

And then I had kids and bought a house. Now they pretty much suck. Except during the winter when there isn't anything outside that needs tending. I used to get up early, read the entire Sunday paper, smoke a little weed, then wake the wife up for a little romance, and have a big breakfast afterwards. Those were great days. I really need a bigger house and a nanny.

after service we make a monster brunch, read to the kids (just finished all these parts), check the blog, nap, maybe shoot some hoops outside or hunt depending on the season, and during football season we usually catch at least a bit of the lions game, right up until they go down 24-3 in the 2nd quarter....

Breakfast wth my family while the wife went to breakfast with her sisters. Just finished mowing the yard and a quick workout. Have a visitation in a little bit and then family dinner tonight. Sister, brother in lawn and and their 7 week old son came in from out of town so my first time meeting him was this weekend.

Went out to Argo with the fam. Did the kayaking to gallop park and then zingermans roadhouse afterwords. Now currently fantasizing about making the walk-on tryouts for the team next year LOL

Ribs on the smoker this morning with a Mesquite/cherry wood combo peppered in. Drinking New Holland Dragon's Milk and watching Olympics. Daydreaming about Taco chasing a QB right into the arms of one Rahan Gary. These dudes will be running scared.

Fiesta eggs for breakfast, church, a seven mile run, and leg day. Now home to game plan for week 1 opponent and relax. Beautiful break in the heat for a walk and fire later.

Ugh...my last day of summer vacation. Teachers report tomorrow morning for PD. At least this year the administration wises up and cut the amount of BS PD in half giving us much more time to set up our rooms, plan, and prep for the upcoming school year.

I go to church, eat dinner with the family then decide some leisurely activity for the rest of the day. I usually plan on a nap but then the wife and kids get worked up about the color of the sky or what is the definition of 'the other day' so who knows after that.

I'll be making a grilled beef tenderloin with chermoula sauce. Wife is making potatoes and a summer tomato salad. Celebrating 2 weeks to the start of the season. I have a few octoberfest beers to enjoy. Metropolitan Afterburner is quite tasty.

Grocery shopping earlier in the day, bought a new gate for the dog, and now just sitting out on the porch having some wine and watching the rain. Nice end to the day.

Two more agonizing weeks until footbawwl.

buddy and we drove 90 minutes north to hopper-fish the _____ Branch of the ______  _________ River.  Very few other fishermen around,  Put in by ______ Creek, and walked up river about 4 miles, slinging little foam hoppers ants and bees. We caught trout the whole way, none big but all little jewels. Like my avatar, brookies, rainbows (juvenile steelhead) and browns.  Pushed a couple of summer run steelies out of their lies, as well as a couple of early kings.

Enjoyed a flask of Elijah Craig 12 y/o, and some Sirens.

Getting ready to put meat skewers on the grill as well as chipotle-laced grape/onion kabobs.

not a water fowler, though i understand why some are.   it's football season for the 4 oldest boys and i am coaching for the 9th year so it is a busy time on the farm.   hopefully i will get the boys fishing on the way home from a few football games this year, those still-warm saturdays that happen up north.  nothing says fly fishing like wading and fly casting in your football pads!

I live on the Ausable just outside of Grayling. One of Michigan's best rivers, no doubt.. Very easy to canoe. If you ever get the chance, check out the Ausable River Canoe Marathon the last weekend in July. Racers go 120 miles from Grayling to Lake Huron, starting at 9PM and paddling all night non-stop for their share of the $50,000 prize pool
