Just saw this news on the tweetwebs. So stoked and hope HOPE that he ends up back with the Wings!!
September 11th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
This is incredible. But he's staying on as an advisor to TB this season, which rules out an immediate transition to Det. But he could step in as GM next year, and Holland could get kicked upstairs.
September 11th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
Holland should get kicked out of Hockey. He is terrible without Scotty Bowman as a coach or a consultant.
September 11th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
He is terrible with a salary cap in place. He was great at spending money freely and bringing in a bunch of great players. Since the salary cap was put in place, the roster has gotten progressively worse and worse.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:03 PM ^
Agreed, but... Jimmy Devolano (sp?) was his ace in the hole. Jimmy knew talent..
September 11th, 2018 at 11:26 PM ^
also Jim Nill
September 11th, 2018 at 5:56 PM ^
Ahhh, the whole, "fail up" routine! Clever.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
Hopefully it’s not serious family matter. Hopefully it’s a buffer year before he comes back to save the wings.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
Hopefully it's to play. They need him even if he's decrepit.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
I heard Gordie Howe, up until the day he died had a pair of skates in his trunk. . . .just in case.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
His knee has to be healed by now!
September 11th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
Whoa! Just had to check the calendar to make sure it is not April 1. This would be on par with Jim Harbaugh coming home to Michigan.
September 11th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
If that ever happens I'll be thrilled!
September 11th, 2018 at 2:09 PM ^
I just saw this a few moments ago - as the OP mentions, it does not specify whether he is simply returning to be home in Michigan or if this is in fact the prelude to being with the Detroit Red Wings.
That said, I think your feelings on this, if you're a Wings fan, would be:
*insert "Why Not Both?" GIF*
September 11th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
You asked... :-)
September 11th, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
As a Bolts fan, this is a kick in the nuts. Hopefully he and his family are ok. If it's simply to go back to the Wings then that is incredible. I'd have to think that if he was leaving to go to the Wings that there would be a lot of rumblings in Detroit, seeing that Ken Holland is still employed...as far as we know.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
I will personally drag Holland out of the state of Michigan to make room for Stevie.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
This is what I hear from every fan of the Wings.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:21 PM ^
Need help? I would like to assist in the dragging out of Holland to the streets
September 11th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
Me three, Comrades
September 11th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
Dont forget to take Blashill with you...
September 11th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
Blash is not the problem. I work with Blashill's cousin and from what she tells me the players are the issue. There is no talent in the organization and they cannot follow simple commands from Jeff.
September 11th, 2018 at 3:48 PM ^
All because Holland was trading away Draft Picks to get aging veterans for another Cup run that always seemed to fall short.
September 11th, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
Me four, I’ll fly back from wherever I’m at on this planet!
September 11th, 2018 at 5:07 PM ^
Where are alien abductions when we need them? C'mon ETs, take Mr. Holland.
September 12th, 2018 at 4:11 AM ^
I'm ready, I'm ready right now.... Do I gotta sign something??
September 11th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
Bolts fan as well, sounds like he is still going to be with the Lightning as an adviser to the new GM for the year. Then he will most likely end up in Detroit after Holland's extension runs out.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:15 PM ^
My one and only piece of Wings memorabilia sits above my bar at home. I was the high-bidder on an autographed, framed Steve Yzerman #19 home jersey.
The only problem is he signed the front of the jersey next the Wings logo, not the back next to his name. So if I displayed the autographed front nobody knows whose jersey it is and if I display the back (which is what I decided on) nobody can tell it's autographed except me.
Loved Steve Y. He was the guy more than anyone else who led us from the Dead Wings of the 80's to the dominant team of the mid 90's and beyond. Welcome home!
September 11th, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
Get two way glass frame.
Never should of let Yzerman go.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
Mgrowold, this man has your answer. The only problem would be if you left it out perpendicular to the wall and walked into it one night when sleep walking. You could tell people Steve Yzerman broke your nose, which would be a good story.
September 11th, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
Can you fold the sleeve so the shoulder numbers show?
Or just sew a "C" on it if it's not there already. Any real fan would know who it is at that point.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
PLEASE SAY THIS IS HAPPENING.
That man needs to fix this broken franchise.
September 11th, 2018 at 5:01 PM ^
Agreed and if he did, he would be the at the top of professional Detroit Sports people for me.
Isaiah Thomas, he turned the Pistons around, but never given chance to take over Pistons.
If SY came back and fixed the Wings? I don't think there'd be anyone even close to him as the top of Detroit superstars. Add that to 3 titles. 3? off the top of my head.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:20 PM ^
As a Tampa guy, I knew this day was coming for a long time. He's built a great team down here, but it was never a question of if he'd leave. Was always a question of when.
Shame that he couldn't win a Cup down here before he left, but he certainly had his chances.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:21 PM ^
This year could be the year for the Bolts and if so, I think we would all agree that it would be the team he built, even if he wasn't the one in the GM seat.
Go Bolts!
September 11th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
We'll see. They have to remember how to finish. Were up on the Penguins 3-2 in the 2016 ECF. Lost the series. Went up 3-2 on the Caps in the 2018 ECF after winning three straight games. Got dominated by the Caps in games 6 and 7 and lost the series.
It's just a shame because had they won either of those series, they're hoisting their second, and possibly their third Cup. They definitely would've beaten the Sharks in the '16 Cup Finals. Not sure about the Knights since the Knights had their number in the regular season, but they definitely would've had a great shot.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
I don't disagree at all. So close to the Cup, but I've got a good feeling this year. 25 days to Hockey.
September 11th, 2018 at 7:56 PM ^
I did NOT know this was not an 'if' but 'when'. Granted, he's not taking over Wings yet.
Conversations I've had about SY mostly concluded 'why would he leave a good sitch in Florida to come run Wings. Wings haven't been good. TB has been good.
I did like our draft this year though.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:20 PM ^
please please please please please please please please please please ...
PLEASE replace Holland!!!!
September 11th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
The Wings version of #It'sHappening. Please don't be playing with me...I can't take anymore heartbreak.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
I ❤️Stevie Y

September 11th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
You shut your mouth. I've had enough of your misinformation dammit.
September 11th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
I thought Yzerman was from B.C.?
September 11th, 2018 at 4:17 PM ^
He was born in Cranbrook, B.C., but grew up in Nepean, Ontario.
How much does Steve Yzerman have to detest Chris Ilitch to work for Eugene Melnyk instead?
September 11th, 2018 at 5:03 PM ^
melnyk sounds russian. did you spend a few precious russian rubles to tilt that decision?
you've never forgiven us for stealing your russian hockey players. confess, comrade!
September 11th, 2018 at 9:14 PM ^
Someday I'll tell you about my dream of opening a chain of CSKA-themed donut shops across Russia.
September 11th, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
No home is Detroit. Hometown is Ottawa. His wife and kids never left the Detroit area. His kids go to school here.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
As long as him and his families health are in order, this is great news!
