OT: Question for the board concerning fandom

Submitted by Eli on December 23rd, 2019 at 5:27 PM

Hey everyone, sorry for the sketchy title as I was not sure what to call this. Follow me and if I am way out of line please tell me. After the loss to OSU I decided that I have had it as only being a Michigan Fan. I will always be a Michigan Fan #1, no questions asked, but since we do not cheat, therefore we have little chance at beating OSU and winning National Titles, I decided I needed to change my outlook on fandom.

I decided for example that if Clemson beats OSU, I will go out and buy a Clemson hat the very next day because I will be a Clemson Fan for them beating OSU. Same goes if they end up losing to LSU or OU. I know this seems messed up on the surface, but hear me out. We will all be rooting for Clemson on Saturday, so why is it wrong to be a fan of them until someone else ruins OSU's season (hopefully Michigan, next year) for bringing down Satan's team? I am so sick of the shit talking from family and acquaintances and just people when I go out in public. I feel like I have a right to enjoy my life of having a team to brag about.

I recently had to move down near the border and it is awful everywhere you go. OSU fans everywhere (In Michigan). They wear their shit everywhere. My Kroger down here is filled with OSU shit, fucking bs man. I know that the few of you on here I know personally have been split about this, even my boy who goes all the way back to the Manchester Flats days with me. SO.... I am so torn. My significant other told me it makes me an asshole and makes me be like an OSU fan. Why can't I root for teams that do the same things that my arch rival does (cheat)? I did not go to Michigan so I know that will matter to some of you. I went to Pioneer, but didn't finish when I should have because I was a dumb thug, so I never had the opportunity to go to U of M. What does everyone think?

Moderators, I am sorry if this is inappropriate, but I really need the boards advice.

Go Clemson, but more importantly GO FUCKIN BLUE.

yeah, I was trying to be nice so I decided to edit it to not be mean. but now I'll be honest.

your post is fucking pathetic. it's little brother type shit that is the worst part of sports "fandom". just like if a msu fan bought an app state hat after they beat us in 2007.

is that what you wanted to hear?

I live in Winston Salem, NC and I pull for Wake Forest at times.  I consider them like Switzerland.  They are 100% neutral and will never be in conflict with Michigan.

Plus you can go to a game there and see ND, FSU, Clemson, etc and pay $45 and leave the stadium after the game and be home in 30 min.  It is a great place to watch a game.

osu is like that acne you had as a teen - best to just ignore it, because if you let it consume you, and you start picking at it, it gets in your head even more.  Pretend it doesn't exist, and just move on with life.

0% I asked for that piece of shit to be banned in the mod sticky days ago. Despite others supporting it, no action taken.

His other accounts are Gomblog, the cube and likely 2 or more others. I’m not going to call out the others cause I am not 100% on the others.

Since I came here two years ago, I have been accused of having multiple accounts and the accusers are almost always accounts newer than mine. That should tell you something.

They hate me cause they can’t be me ??‍♂️

Do what you need to do.  I usually just wear a MI shirt that says F OSU, or Worst State Ever, or Ohio Sucks...etc.  I don’t buy stuff from other schools, but if LSU happens to be playin OSU, I wear purple...etc.

I wish I could somehow place a bet against this statement being true. The administration may not actually condone cheating, but there is definitely money going to some of the players, even if it's not as blatant as elsewhere. But by all means, tell me about how Gabe Watson bought the tricked out Hummer he drove around campus by working at Cottage Inn. That thing used to shake our house every time he drove by.

You throw out a name from almost 20 years ago because the kid had a nice car? You know plenty of families will get kids nice things they can barely afford because they think the kids about to become rich?

If he really was getting enough bag money to drive a tricked out Hummer, you really think he would have worked at the cottage inn?

It's one thing to act like everyone cheats now, but don't try and feed me this crap about Carr's era cheating.

I am assuming you are under the age of 20, since you say "F*CK" on just about every post.

Furthermore, don't be naive and think Michigan doesn't cheat.  Every top 25-30 team cheats.  Some cheat more than others.  Some are just cutting corners and some are redrawing all the lines.  Some have random boosters giving $500 handshakes while others are $100,000 bag drops.  But nobody is above board / 100% pure and clean and full of integrity.

I believe there are two kinds of cheaters in college football.  The teams where the coach is heavily involved in the cheating and actually organizes the back channels of bagmen.  This is the SEC style and likely OSU among others.

Then there are the teams like Michigan where the coach avoids breaking the rules, and asks Alumni not to cheat while doing their absolute best to be within the rules.

Agents and paying future professional players is where most teams cheat (knowingly and unknowingly) and not much coaches can do about it EXCEPT worn the players.

The teams who have coaches who know and who approve allow the cheating to be rampant on a huge scale.  The teams who frown upon it are able to keep it to a minimum.

Players who go to Michigan want the education, want the chance to go to the pros, and see the opportunity for future success beyond football.

Players that go to the big time cheating schools have two things on their mind: winning and playing professionally.

I understand both and often wonder what I would do had I been in their situation.

Gweb, you are putting forth what I call the "Michigan Fallacy".  You do realize that you can go to many schools that are amazing at football, get a great education, and be set up for success beyond football.  Michigan fans, at times, act as if the only school someone chooses to go to to play football and get an eduction is Michigan.  Just not true at all.

I have a family friend who coaches at an SEC school.  He recently told me that everyone knows Saban, Dabo and Urban are as dirty as they come.  Says Dabo is the worst of the three.  Said Harbaugh and Dantonio are clean.  LSU has always been dirty regardless of coach and success.  Nothing earth shattering, I know, but I thought is was interesting insight from a team that competes against these schools for recruits.

Didn’t mention specifically, but I think it’s the amount/breadth of benefits offered. Got the sense that most Clemson players on are on the take.

FWIW, I was told a Clemson to NW transfer is more interested in study the Bible than the playbook. Guess Dabo’s phony Jesus routine wasn’t popular with everyone.

Our woes are more self inflicted than anything cheating related. I mean Juwan Howard doesnt have trouble recruiting in a landscape that is supposedly more dirty than college football. This staff not taking enough d tackles and corners the past few years is more a reflection of their sloppiness than anything else. I mean we've seen them spike the ball with a timeout left and score 14 points on Army in regulation. Is that because everyone else cheats or because our staff isnt very good?

To each their own, but buying a Clemson shirt if they beat OSU reminds me of Sparty fans who bought App St. shirts after they beat us.

Nothing wrong with rooting for a team playing Ohio that day. Jumping on the bandwagon simply because your team can’t beat their rival makes you, “that guy.”

I don’t think fandom works like that. I guess I was too young to remember but I don’t think I chose to be a UM fan. Kinda just felt right idk.

If this is honestly how you feel, then fuck you and we don't want you as a Michigan fan. We don't need fake fans like you who switch fandoms when the goings get tough

This is the dumbest take in the thread. Be a bandwagon fan! There's no rules! Buy one hundred hats for different teams and wear one of whatever team won that day!

People who disagree are just jealous that others are having fun while they're miserable.
