I have to admit that I had no idea that this film was being made and after watching the fight scenes in the trailer, count me in.

I rented the first one from the tiny movie rental place across from pizza house, next to ricks....lol, bet not many remember that place. But I had it so long, they’d call and leave messages on my answering machine to return. Funny ones like, c’mon man, you’ve watched it enough, or, you have to have the lines memorized by now so you don’t need it any more....

While I did love it, I lent it to my buddy to watch and never saw it again. I didn’t purposely keep it.

But that trailer looks unbelievable!! Count me in too!!

We rented there fairly frequently. One time they informed us we had a late fee. We were surprised. “Robin Hood was returned late.” This seemed odd because we didn’t recall renting or watching Robin Hood. So we protested. “Robin Hood: Men in Tights?” he responded.

Oh no. We had totally forgotten it and once again felt the shame of our mistake in selecting such a waste of celluloid in the first place. Now laid bare for all of Church St. Video and its clientelle to witness. And even worse that because of the late return we were now paying extra for it.
That was a sad moment.

HBOMAX is the best deal in streaming. Great movies, classic cult shows (I just finished Sopranos for the first time) and picking up new great shows (Search Party, funny comedy).

Can't wait for Mortal Kombat but I am going to have to fly to Arizona or Nevada because I need to see it in a theatre or IMAX. One of my top 2 favorite childhood movies along with Starship Troopers.

You know. Starship Troopers doesn’t get enough love. I think the fact that it had all the standard violence and blood-letting of a Paul Verhoevan film, people took the film too literally. It was meant to be an allegory to WW2 propaganda movies. If you look at through that lens, it’s a pretty good movie IMO.

With that, the writer of the Starship Trooper book was totally embarrassed by the movie.

"With that, the writer of the Starship Trooper book was totally embarrassed by the movie."

How in hell can somebody who's dead be embarrassed by a movie?

Robert Heinlein wrote "Starship Troopers" and died in 1988. The movie version by Paul Verhoeven was released in 1997.

That said, it's a certainty that Heinlein would have hated the movie had he seen it.

Yep.  I agree.

I was a bit of cinema-ophile up until about 2003.  I've been to Sundance several times etc.  But I always admired Paul Verhoeven's film style.  He was so right-on in the late 80's to mid 90s.  I gave him a pass for Showgirls, but I lost it after Hollowman.

I came home from work one day and my GF was sleeping on the couch with Starship Troopers playing early on.  She woke up, I chided her for having that on, and then held her on the couch for the duration of the movie in a forced watch.  She (now wife) gets angry when I say she loves that movie...

She doesn't like many good movies because she has no taste.  Starship Troopers, Spaceballs, History of the World, Mars Attacks, Blazing Saddles, etc...

I feel old having spent hundreds in the arcade playing MK when it first game out (and hearing the media lambast the violence in it).

I also remember being invited in off the street while on vacation in Florida with some friends to screen an unknown movie and give feedback before it's release. We got free snickers bars and a free screening of The Matrix. One of my favorite memories with my friends ever.

The guy that plays Scorpion is such an awesome actor (Last Samurai, Rush Hour 3).

The two older ones are such a guilty pleasure; however, I hope they make this totally different and don't get too campy with it.

I'm just glad they're doing it right this time around. Don't get me wrong, I love me some campy, cheesy, mid-90s takes on Mortal Kombat, the kind of scripts that make your skin crawl when you hear the characters talk, but to do anything less than rated R is a complete disservice to the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Honestly, I would be happy with 90-120 minutes of nothing but fatalities. I'm not expecting a great script. I just want to see guys get their skulls crushed in, appendages ripped off, spines ripped out, and at least one truly great TOASTY moment from Scorpion.

1988-1994, in junior high and high school, I fed enough quarters into Mortal Combat at the old pink-house Pinball Pete’s that I could likely have bought a car instead.

I'm a huge Mortal Kombat fan, but I wasn't really excited for the new movie until I saw the trailer. It may or may not be considered a good movie but I think it will be fun. The big mystery is the new character Cole Young who I think is actually Kuai Liang aka the second Sub-Zero. However that may be getting too deep into MK lore for this forum.

I watched the original on the evening before we beat OSU in 1997. This one looks sweet and I’ll definitely watch it.  I’m superstitious af, so I’ll watch it the night before we play OSU in football.
