OT: Mich bars in Boulder CO? (Or Denver)

Submitted by kawter on September 23rd, 2022 at 12:28 PM

He ya'll - Anyone in or near Boulder CO know of Michigan Bars nearby?

In town for a wedding + NFL game and it seems that the town is going to be pretty focused on the CO v UCLA game.

A search of the form shows that The Post Brewing was a Michigan bar back in 2018 and the closest alumni assoc bar is in Denver - would love to stay in Boulder if possible, but will go to Denver if there is a group there.

Thoughts?

I understand that thread, if you read my post it references the 2018 mention of "The Post" in this specific thread (yes i know how to use search etc) as well as I mention the alumni association bar in Denver...

I appreciate the RTFM response, but the MFM doesn't help with the question above - ciao

The Boulder viewing parties have had to move like 3 times in the last 5 years and now they’re in…Westminster. If you want a good hang, I’d come to denver. If you just want any old place to watch the game with sound, it’ll be on at Odde’s. But that’s also not super convenient if you’re in town without a car.

Greg's Kitchen and Taphouse is a more low-key Michigan bar in the Sloan's Lake area of Denver. Usually they have the game on a big TV on their outdoor patio and there's normally 4-5 tables of UM fans

If anyone milling through this thread knows of an M-friendly bar in Fort Myers, I would be much obliged. I have not found a reference to any such establishment elsewhere on the blog.

Thank you in advance.

Whoa - this is great, thank you everyone... Very tempted to go to Jacksons and brave the crowd or at minimum Greg's

Cheers & Go Blue - thx again

For the full Michigan-fan-in-Colorado experience, I would go to Denver/Jackson's. Odde's is closer, especially if you're not using mass transit, but it's in a nondescript strip mall. Traffic will be a bit rough going into Boulder tomorrow morning, and a bit rough coming out of Boulder after the UCLA game. That shouldn't affect you, as you're going in the opposite directions. Boulder to Denver and vice versa is a super easy 25-30 minute drive when it's not rush hour.

Get some good pork green chili while you're in town. Most importantly, stop by one of the Blue Pan locations. Best pizza in Denver, imo. It's Detroit style. The founder is former Michigan football walk-on player Jeff Smokevitch.

Here's one for you: candlelight tavern on pearl in Denver. Its a dive bar with cheap beer, a rough crowd and Wolverine fans who will get you hammered. Fuck Lodo or anything near cooks field. It's also a Lions bar and a great place to watch the wings.

Edit: Also bluepan in Washington Park.

I'd bet a dollar that no one, possibly including the players, is going to be pretty focused on the CO v UCLA game...

That said, I'm jealous of you being in Boulder, have a great trip!

I laughed my ass off at the signs on US 36 today warning of heavy traffic tomorrow heading into Boulder.

Who the hell is gonna watch that shit?  After all, it's not like the city even cares about CU football since Katie Hnida and Gary Barnett assclownery.

But then it dawned on me.

Californians.

They may show.

But then again, it's not like UCLA is selling out games either.

I don’t live in Denver but have travelled there enough times during football/basketball season that I’ve been to Jackson’s for games at least 3 times, and the Michigan crowd never disappoints. Usually pretty full, and the rooftop bar is pretty great. The food/beer selection is…fine? But that doesn’t really matter. No idea what’s in Boulder, but if the goal is hanging with Michigan fans, just catch an Uber and head to Jackson’s. It’s actually one of the more reliable alumni bars I’ve found around the country, as it seems like Denver has a lot of alums.

I don't know of any Michigan bars in the Boulder area. There really aren't that many good options to catch a game at a bar in Boulder. The Post is a pretty good option and its right off Pearl street so you can walk around downtown afterwards. I would recommend Dark Horse if you are just trying to catch the Michigan game. It doesn't open until 11am but its got great burgers and wings and it will have the Michigan game on. I've lived in Boulder for 5 years and that's honestly the best place to catch a game IMO. Be careful with some of the best recommended bars because most are not sports bars and will have no TV's in them.

The town will absolutely not be focused on the UCLA vs CU game. It truly isn't even comparable to Ann Arbor on a game day. You might not even notice that there is a game going on in town with how bad they are right now. The one time this place ever felt like a college football town was when Nebraska played here a couple years back.

If I could recommend something to anyone traveling through Boulder it would be to go on a hike. You should try and find a hike after the Michigan game. If you drive down Canyon Boulevard it will take you to Nederland where you can get to Indian Peaks Wilderness. There you will find countless hikes that range from hard to easy. The beauty of Colorado is truly unrivaled and if you get a chance to hike in the Rockies you have to take it. Checkout the website Alltrails https://www.alltrails.com/us/colorado/nederland here you can find a bunch of different hikes.

Jackson’s was a very great game day bar, felt a little like Charlie’s with the screens and atmosphere.

The crowd was fairly epic… uh with the exception of me being chastised for cheering as we smashed Tua into oblivion (it’s football folks, he didn’t get rolled up, hitting people hard is fun)

Even so I highly approve, 3 thumbs up on a Z formation
