OT: Lions drafted a Buckeye at #3 just three years ago, now trading him for a 5th-round pick
CB Jeff Okudah is being traded to the Falcons for, yes, a fifth-round pick in the upcoming draft. He had played three years with the Lions, and had never once shown the value of a top-3 pick.
Not sure if this reflects more poorly on Ohio State or on the Lions (at least, the former regime).
Surprising. When I read about a major OSU draft bust, I expect it to be about a QB.
And it's a great move!
Great job getting any draft capitol for him, I was fairly certain they would just release him so a 5th rd pick is not bad. In the end this was all about salary cap help.
I think it reflects most poorly on Jeff Okudah, not the lions or ohio
Ohio State has been churning out athletic DBs with crappy technique for a while now. And the Lions swallowed the bait.
This news doesn’t reflect badly on either; it just reflects.
Former regime for sure. Okuda had the ability to be a complimentary piece, but not much more, IMO. This regime clearly is not afraid to make a decision and move on, which I appreciate. Now to decipher what this additional pick will lead to...a trade up for a QB, or a trade down from #6 for more picks, then a trade up from #18? So many choices...and surely a smokescreen or three.
Dude’s a friggin’ turd.
another osu bust. i am almost always against taking a CB that high in the draft...also TEs.
Both the former regime and OSU. It has long been known that OSU CBs don't know how to play the position and get by just by talent at the college level.
Not sure if serious. One of the best in the NFL played at OSU. They put better DB’s into the league than Michigan.
I know in the last 10 years it has been that way. Ward is the only one off the top of my head that has panned out lately.
lattimore is one of the best in the league.
I guess denzel ward and marshon lattimore didn’t get the memo?
I didn't say all but that was what NFL scouts were saying about OSU CBs. Doesn't mean Ward and Lattimore knew how to play when they first came to camp but they figured it out and became good. I am not just saying that cause I hate OSU it is what has been reported. Now they have new guys there it could be different.

No one should value my draft advice but damn, if ever there was a big guy at corner that could cover for 2-3 seconds just by leaning on WR off the line until the D-line could get to the QB, this is the guy. No highlights of classic interceptions on film but just snagging desperation passes.
He was injured most of his first two years, to be fair.
Yes and he is still young. Could be a bad trade if he is healthy and productive.
Still waiting for the highlight clip where he anticipates where the ball is going to make the play.
passed on Tua and Herbert as well. Fantastic!
Pretty sure that drafting a QB with Stafford still functional wouldn't have been the best choice. Not that Okudah was, but QB was not a screaming need.
Ohio state has put a lot of good DB’s into the league. Definitely on quintricia for drafting a DB at #3 overall.
Garbage in, garbage out!
My 2 questions: (1) was Okudah from Ohio? and (2) if so what % of HS players from Ohio that got drafted in 2020 were offered by OSU?
Okudah is from Texas.
Made no sense to me to draft Okudah, with the pass rushers OSU had, it didn’t take much to cover anybody but Bob Quinn who is smarter then you and I just ask him, drafted him terrible pick!
Exactly. Okudah knew the ball had to come out quick and he looked good. He rarely had to cover for very long.
Okudah was going to be a backup so I guess you can get a DJ Turner to do that with more upside/younger.
Lions usually suck at the draft, but has any tOSU picks panned out for them since Speilman!
Taylor Decker is very good

Decker wasn’t drafted by the Lions, right?

#16 overall by the lions

Damn it, in my head Taylor Decker and Alex Boone are the same person that did a bit of trash talking about his time with Harbaugh in SF and then came to the Lions.
Falcons got fleeced on that deal.

Hated the pick then and I hate it now. Quinntricia really made some terrible decisions. I will give them Frank Ragnow. Great pick.
