OT - Lions currently picking 3rd
Lions currently picking 3rd.
We need Skins to beat cowboys next week and lose to pack to move to 2nd pick.
Not sure if true but have read talent kinda sorta drops off after top 2.
I cant believe I’m still a Lions fan but I swear I will see a title before I die...I hope.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:38 PM ^
Talent definitely does not drop off after two, however a “sure thing” QB and pass rusher should be off the board then.
if Burrow and Young are gone, it may be worth considering dropping down for whoever wants Tua badly, or taking Tua ourselves(I know we have a ton of other issues).
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:49 PM ^
I would consider dropping down even if we do get 2nd pick. It seems Young is as good as the Bosas but if a team put a huge package together for the pick, I’d consider it.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:53 PM ^
If he goes ham in the playoff, take him. A mediocre performance, yes, trade down.
December 22nd, 2019 at 8:05 PM ^
Isn’t it amazing how a great pass rush can make your defensive backs look so much better. QB has to unload sooner than he wants.
December 23rd, 2019 at 7:19 AM ^
I’m curious to see what Young does in the playoffs. I get that the play-calling has a lot to do with this but Young was completely neutralized by Runyan with help from Bredeson...
December 24th, 2019 at 12:50 PM ^
Im with ya. He bodied a lot of qbs that didn't have great o lines. Wisconsin kind of being the exception, but honestly, they really were not "great". It really surprised me that he had no meaningful impact on the game this year. Hire mutch of that was play calling away from him, or how much of that was Michigan's o line actually being good? How much of that was him being a little overrated? Great player, yes. Heisman winner? No.
December 22nd, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
My money is on the Lions drafting a Tight End. Maybe a long snapper.
December 23rd, 2019 at 12:55 AM ^
Wrong. The Lions will take a RB in the first round that they could’ve drafted in the 5th round.
December 23rd, 2019 at 7:56 AM ^
They'll trade down to re-enact their success from 1975. I can hear Pete Rozelle right now: "...and with the 13th pick in the 1975 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select Lynn Boden, G, South Dakota State." The more things change, the more they stay the same. The Honolulu Blew Its.
December 23rd, 2019 at 8:39 AM ^
Dammit. Still angry about last year's draft.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
I wouldn’t touch Tua. With that injury who knows if he ever plays at a high level again. And even without the injury I don’t know that I’d spend a top 5 pick on him. With those receivers, running game and O line a lot of college QBs would look very good.
In that case I’d trade up to 2 and take whichever is still available. Or if someone was desperate for Tua consider trading down.
Lions will screw it up either way...
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:05 PM ^
If you can drop down and get Tua (assuming he shows he's healthy), he's absolutely worth stashing until you move on from Stafford. But would have to be a pick in the 20s and it doesn't look like he'll be around then. You also get the 5th year option by taking him in the 1st.
Also, some mocks have the Redskins passing on Chase Young. If they were to do that...you absolutely take Young at #3.
If not, you trade down just a spot or two and take Okudah. Take that extra pick.
#3 pick is worth 2200 points, #4 is worth 1800.
The #50 pick is worth #400 points. If you can go down a spot, get Okudah and pickup a mid/late 2nd rounder? You ABSOLUTELY do that deal.
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Let's say Detroit gets #3 and Miami gets #4.
Miami is hell bent on getting Tua, where Ryan Fitzpatrick is under contract for next year and they can sit him for a year. Which is not far fetched, Tua is still #3 on Kiper's "Big Board" and a top 10 pick in most mocks. They can't risk Detroit trading the pick to anyone else.
So Miami gives you their #4 for #3 to take Tua. Miami also gives Detroit their late 2nd rounder that they got from New Orleans + a 5th rounder this year and a 3rd rounder in the 2021 draft.
Draft Okudah with #4, Linebacker Dylan Moses or Kenneth Murray at the top of the 2nd round, Ben Bredeson with the Miami/NO 2nd round pick.

Wish I could give multiple thumbs up for your knowledge of draft strategy and draft common sense.
December 22nd, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
That's wishful thinking. The better shot is LAC and another team getting in to a bidding war.
December 23rd, 2019 at 8:35 AM ^
Mcshay said he thinks Tua is one of the most accurate QB's hes ever watched.
And I tend to agree with him.
He definitely needs to get healthy but Tua needs to be strongly considered for us.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:57 PM ^
Still a ton to new determined with stuff like senior bowl type games etc and most importantly the combine.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:41 PM ^
It wont matter, they will likely pick Darko's son at WR at either 3rd or 2nd.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:41 PM ^
If you are hoping to see a Lions title before you die, you better be no older than two years old.
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:23 AM ^
You are more optimistic about the time table for a Lions title than the majority of us.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:45 PM ^
Who’s the highest rated TE? Pretty safe to say that will be the guy.
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:31 PM ^
Probably someone from Iowa... and you are correct, sir.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
I'm still looking for film of Bo Schembechler being a coach at Presbyterian in 1954. To validate why Michigan scheduled them in basketball yesterday.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:51 PM ^
Huge amounts of offensive talent coming out this year. One of the better overall drafts in the past 10 years. If everyone comes out that should.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:58 PM ^
Good input.
I used to be a fanatic about draft. Now I typically wait till I know approximately where we’ll be picking. As long as we don’t beat Pack next week we should be ok.
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:31 AM ^
They are the lions so I am sure they will win to really get some momentum for 2020.
December 22nd, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
Offense should be the LAST thing the Lions worry about.
If they draft someone like Jerry Jeudy, they should padlock Ford Field and not let a single coach back into the facility.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:53 PM ^
Lions will have Chase Young fall to them and they’ll draft a TE instead.
December 23rd, 2019 at 12:06 AM ^
Wrong.
They’ll draft Young and convert him into a TE.
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:55 PM ^
Ownership kept an incompetent GM and head coach to save money.
Why do you care when they don't?
December 22nd, 2019 at 7:59 PM ^
They will trade up to take McKeon unless there is a more injured tight end on the board
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:53 PM ^
Mckeon is disqualified from playing for the Lions because he went to Michigan.
December 22nd, 2019 at 11:33 PM ^
Jeff Backus, Graham Glasgow, Jake Rudock...
But yeah, for a long time - a LONG time - somebody in the front office had a hard-on against Michigan.
December 22nd, 2019 at 8:10 PM ^
Lions looked great the first qtr of season...their lines on both sides looked excellent. Then was as if the wheels came off.
December 22nd, 2019 at 8:16 PM ^
I saw some stat where we were decimated with injuries this year. I knew it was bad but it was holy cow bad.
I know injuries are a part of the game, but at some point it can really send the season south.
Lions can do that on their own. They don’t need help.
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:38 PM ^
HEYYYYYY!!!!! Martha Ford is here on MGoBlog!
December 23rd, 2019 at 9:27 AM ^
They also lost their nearly 30 million a year qb, a guy who has the highest percentage of a teams salary cap tied to him this year in NFL AND
Replaced him with a rookie free agent at the most important in football. Probably no bigger drop off possible in the NFL than going from Stafford to Blough
Best thing to happen to the Lions this year was the fact they lost every game after Stafford went out as there was no way this team was doing anything meaningful without him
December 22nd, 2019 at 8:26 PM ^
Division title?
December 22nd, 2019 at 8:28 PM ^
A title? I'd settle for the second win in the playoffs IN MY LIFETIME (and I'm old).
December 22nd, 2019 at 8:31 PM ^
...but I swear I will see a title before I die...I hope.
So you think the NFL will hold another Super Bowl in Detroit? Or do you mean you're going to get tickets to a Super Bowl someday?
December 22nd, 2019 at 8:32 PM ^
I hope they do the Patriots way and trade down to get a ton more picks. Getting Chase Young would be great, but there is a lot of data showing the teams who have the most picks overall tend to fare the best. We need players, let's get them.
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
What WR or TE is available at 3?
December 22nd, 2019 at 11:36 PM ^
Jeudy
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:35 PM ^
I put my money on death first. The arrogance from the silver spoon do-nothing Fords, down through the idiot arrogant living off other's success GM, ditto possible rapist coach is astounding. They are all losers. They are what they are.
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:36 PM ^
When I was a young teenager in the mid-90's, I wished I'd see the Lions win a Superbowl before I died. I was half-joking at the time, but the years. keep. passing...
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:47 AM ^
Maybe that could be a twilight zone episode.
”maize and blue af was a sports fan with one wish, to see his favorite football team win the ‘big game’ before he died...”
cut to the final scene of him being inhumanely kept alive in an iron lung being forced to watch super bowl CC where the 2-year old franchise, Mumbai Cobras have defeated the South Africa Lions 56-55.
December 22nd, 2019 at 9:38 PM ^
Redskins have drafted Allen, Payne, and Sweat in the first round the last 3-4 years. They also gave Mat Ianitis a long term deal and still have Kerrigan on the roster. They won’t draft Young especially after Haskins got killed today and have a huge need at LT.
if they draft another DLineman at 2 they are dumber then the Lions. Skins will trade out most likely to a QB needy team. Lions should get Young at 3 but I have questions about him showing up in big games right now.
December 23rd, 2019 at 3:23 AM ^
A couple of things. Dan Snyder is almost as bad of an owner as the Ford family, so I wouldn't put anything past him. If the Lions do get Young, that means he will suck, because, Lions.
December 22nd, 2019 at 10:07 PM ^
They will draft the wrong guy 9/10 times. Once a generation they luck into a HOF...and then he retires early 'cause he can't stomach the ineptitude.
December 22nd, 2019 at 10:21 PM ^
I can’t even imagine enduring all of the dong-punches that come with being a Michigan fan, only to cheer for the lions the next day. You poor bastards.
