OT: Kentucky Derby

Submitted by BeatOSU52 on
Surprised there wasn't a thread on this yet. Anyone have any action on the big race which is set to happen about 6:40 on NBC?

I wouldn't mind seeing Nyquist win but my betting site I use doesn't offer exactas or trifectas, and I didn't see much value on Nyquist so went with some "sleepers" to win straight up:

Mohayman - got him at 14-1.  Don't like that it started to rain a moment ago.  He sucks on sloppy tracks.

Danzing Candy - got him at 18-1. Realize he will probably fade late

Mor Spirit - got him at 8-1. Can Bafferts horse make history from the 17th post?

Thinking about laying one more bet

Mohaymen is whom Weinstein liked on WTKA.  It has already stopped raining.  The radar shows a big storm skirting Louiville with more to the east.

Exaggerator is the horse who is supposed to have the most bottom. I locked in at 8-1, they bumped him to 5-1 about an hour ago.

I love Derby day and have a bunch of bets on it as usual. 3 ATBs: -Exagerrator (my big money is on him even though I usually like longer odds) -Lani -Gun Runner And then some exotics (boxed exacta and trifecta) with the above 3 as well as Mohaymen and Outwork. I think the old status quo of the favorite not doing well at the Derby makes its return today and Nyquist doesn't make it on the board. Good luck to everyone throwing money down today!

We've got the Derby coverage on here as we do a few chores (well, obviously I have taken a break, so best type quick). I actually do have a little action on the Derby today - I can blame my parents for giving me a false sense of my ability to pick horses too. Many years ago, I gave my dad my savings from my allowance to put on a random horse that I chose from the racing form as they were going to a party at Northville Downs. $10 on a 50-1 longshot. My dad came home with about $500, so ever since this formative lesson, I have bet on horses on occasion.

I work with this woman who used to own and race horses, so she analyzed the pedigrees, racing history, etc. And gave me the trifecta of exaggerator first, creator second, and Danzing Candy third. Obviously still a long shot, but I've got to have a better chance than my normal bets based on absolutely nothing.

Creator, Gunn Runner, SudenBreakingNews, and Nyquist all boxed up. Exacta 5/2 boxed Tri Nyquist, Mohaymen, Exaggerator, all boxed up.

Why has the favorite won half the races since 2000 ? It took 50 years for 8 favorites o win prior to that. Are people using advanced metrics on horses now ?

Exaggerator was sure closing quickly. With the Preakness length, he would have had time to catch Nyquist. Going to be interesting

People who say Nyquist wouldn't have beat Exaggerator are dumb the horse has beat him twice now head to head. The jockey barely got into the horse in the stretch while Exaggerator gave all he had. Nyquist has beaten all these horses throughout his career time and time again.

Nyquist is so competitive he wouldn't even let Exaggerator pass him in the gallop out past the finish line. I bet on Gun Runner, but Nyquist ran a great race, close to a fast pace and still had more left than Gun runner at the end. Exaggerator is a nice colt too.
