I know what will follow this is juvenile cliche jokes about Cleveland, and the Browns.  All of that aside, as a Browns fan, Joe Thomas was the best offensive lineman I've ever had the pleasure of watching.  He was great for the community, and he did everything the right way.

It saddens me that it's official, the Browns ruined the career of one of the best to play the game, and the best offensive lineman to wear that helmet.

You do realize there is only 1 team who wins a super bowl every year and only 6 teams from his conference who even make the playoffs.

Kills me when fans say a team ruined his career when he was quite possibly the best at his position for the last decade.

Me being connected with athletics and Sports as a business I really get bothered by this, people just don't know how hard it is to win at a high level in Athletics.

Just my take

Megatron and him were drafted #2 and #3 in the same draft, and both had HOF careers on some of the worst teams in the NFL.  But hell, at least he got to play a decade and was one of the best in the business over that stretch.

Joe might've been the best person (funny, personable, accessable, smart, ect) to wear the helmet but he's nowhere near the best player to wear the helmet.   Joe is rumored to be moving to the broadcast booth as one of the new Monday Night Football announcers.  He has a tremendously popular popcast with Andrew Hawkins and EVERYBODY who's ever met him seem to have nothing but good things to say about the man.  And the ironies of irony is the Browns appear to be finally getting their shit together player-wise at the exact moment Joe decides to leave.   He will be terribly missed.

But the best Browns player of all time?  That just so happens to be the best football player period of all time in many, many people's eyes - Jim Brown.

*All* the old guys I know speak of Jim Brown in a reverential manner. Greatest ever, then Payton, then Barry. Coolest thing I learned was that not only is he in football HOF but also the lacrosse HOF. There are levels and I think b/c the Browns have been horrible over years and because Brown is old/remembered often as an activist/advisor/occasional actor that his legacy as the most dominant player of his era (arguably any era) is too easily forgotten.

And they missed on Nate Solder, though I wouldn't have expected him to pick Cleveland over anywhere else. Browns o-line will be worse next year than last.
