It’s to the point now we are asking play by play announcers to stay out of the way and entertain us all the while. America doesn’t speak fondly to nepotism Joe Buck withstood it. Let’s not default to phrases like “Steve Levy is not walking through that door, folks?”

He’s pretty awful, and Aikman isn’t that great either…but both are better than the hot plates of garbage ESPN has been rolling out to announce MNF over the past 15+ years.

And Disney is gonna pay all that money when the better MNF crew is two brothers doing celebrity interviews and laughing at the plays is already under contract.

He's not my favorite. Reminds me of Nicolas Cage, you either love him or hate him, I hate both! They actually look somewhat alike as well.

Also I remember him doing some US Open Golf commentating and it was god awful, like he had no business pretending he knew anything about golf.

I'm probably less annoyed by this than I would have been if it happened 10 years ago, thanks to the rise of SNF.  I almost always watch Sunday Night, much of the time I forget to watch Monday Night Football.

Anything that results in less Joe Buck on my TV is a net positive.

Money's a powerful motivator, but ESPN is a small pond, relatively speaking. MNF doesn't get marquee matchups much, and won't have a Super Bowl for 5 more years.

Fox has two of the next three SB's, and the world hears your voice on that game. However, does anyone ever listen or choose to not listen because of broadcast teams. I tune in for the game, and am only slightly annoyed or enthused by the broadcast team.

Oh for the days of George Kell and Ernie Harwell...where they made listening as good or better than seeing. I know I was only a child...listening to the Tigers on WKZO from beautiful Middlebury, Indiana...such professionalism. And Lou Boudreau and the Cubs on WGN. Summers were wonderful for this young baseball fan-Cubs in the afternoon and the Tigers at night...what more could one ask for! Hated the White Sox-only listened to them in a pinch...but could pull in The Reds and the Cardinals too. The "Good Old Days" were not always good...but some things certainly were.

How does this impact baseball? I assume FOX now need a new World Series play by play announcer. I hope they dump Smoltz in the process.

Also, is Buck doing MNF only or will ESPN let him do Sunday night or other baseball games on the network? I believe Buck has said that calling baseball is his first love.

So looks like I will be moving my Sunday afternoon nap in the falls to Monday night. Sounds good.

For real though, there are not two more lifeless and boring commentators than those 2.

He doesn't bother me at all. Always felt he was prepared for the broadcast, even if he got his big break from daddy.

Jack Buck was one of the best ever - Cards version of Ernie Harwell. Still remember Jack's radio call when Gibby hit the HR 88 WS.

MNF has been too diluted by other night specials (Sunday night, Thursday night, etc.)

Still love the 70s combo of Gifford-Howard-Dandy Don - even if I wasn't a big fan of Cosell. People tuned in just to hate on him! And Dandy Don was worth a few non-PC quote every broadcast.
