OT: Have you seen Giroud's "scorpion" goal today???
Last couple of years, we used to have a lot of threads on "the other football." Not so much this year, probably b/c we didn't need the distraction. Nonetheless, as those things go, this is thread-worthy -- one of the most remarkable goals from the back of a heel. Scored by Arsenal's venerable veteran Olivier Giroud (he's French, so its prounced "zhih-ROO").

As some deeper background on England's soccer league this year, it's back to the norm. While last year was full of drama and ended with the 5000:1 upset win by Leicester, this year the the top 6 slots on the table are occupied by the usual big six teams. And the gulf between those six to the rest of the pack is not going to be bridged.

You basically described why some want to see him gone. Misses easy goals, but has the skill to score amazing goals.

You can easily see his impact in close matches. He's really the only player up fron who can get on the end of a cross. Other players are capable of doing it, but he's dominant in the air. When he's off the pitch they basically have to shoot from range, or try and pass through 11 players legs in the box.

The dude's just never loved by anyone. Fans of the French national team never want him to start either.
I think everyone's jealous of his hair.

Great goal, but I was more impressed by Spurs attack of Kane and Dene Alli today.

Had the game on TV when it happened. Still can't quite wrap my head around it. Scorpion bar down? Sure.

Amazing, but lots of luck there.
Give me 100,000 tries and I would do that once. Give pros 100 tries and they do it once. A millimeter off on his shoe and it just bounces off the crossbar or is low enough for the goalie to get.

Soccer still sucks . Call it "football" all you want..
January 2nd, 2017 at 1:59 PM ^
Well, you actually use your "foot" to play the "ball" so I think calling it "football" is pretty appropriate..
