OT - Golf Shoe Suggestions

Submitted by gm1234 on May 15th, 2021 at 5:35 PM

Seems like a slower time on the board, so thought I’d ask a question of all the fellow golfers out there...I’m in need of a new pair of golf shoes and have always had spikes. I see more and more people going to the spikeless shoes. What are y’all’s thoughts on spikes vs spikeless? Do you get the same grip? Are the spikeless more comfortable? Thinking of going to the spikeless, but worried mostly about grip and don’t want to be disappointed. Feel free to beg away if this is a bad topic

I’ve had footjoy mostly and they’re a good brand if you need a waterproof shoe but you trade a little flexibility and comfort for that feature. I kept my old pair for wet rounds

Last time around I spent a little extra and went with the Adidas tour 360 and it was worth it. Feels good on your feet and there was a noticeable difference at the end of the round. Feet weren’t as sore or stiff. Adidas usually does run a little thin so if you have slender feet they might be perfect

Thanks for the input. I’ve never had FJs, but like several of their styles. My Nikes now are waterproof and I play mostly mornings, so would probably prefer another pair of waterproof. The Adidas look really nice (both spike & spikless), but I’ve never really cared for the fit of Adidas. As you mentioned I’ve always found them tight, my feet are in the middle ground of not needing wide, but narrow is a little too tight.

I have a few spikeless shoes but I never really like the grip performance during early morning or wet rounds. As a big guy with few extra lbs along with a long/flatter swing plane, grip is pretty important to me.  Went back to spikes and haven’t had any slip issues since.

If you have wide feet, Nike Air Zoom Infinity Tours or Nike Air Zoom Victory Tour 2 are very comfortable. I walk most of my rounds and alternate between the two.

Thanks for the feedback. Your issues with the spikeless are exactly what I’m worried about. I play mostly in the mornings in have been told I have a pretty ‘aggressive’ swing, so the grip really made me wonder...I’ve been looking at both of your suggestions along with the UA Hovr (don’t remember the which ones off the top of my head)

I play quite a bit and have issues with spike shoes. I’ve tried almost all of the brands of spikeless out there.  I like the Ecco, but can find them unforgiving if you walk.  I recently tried the new Cole Hagan Zerogrands.  Without question, the most comfortable shoes I have worn and great grip.

I like to just let my toenails grow out nice and long like and go barefoot and DIG IN.  'Cause I'm a MAN...I'm FIFTY...and the shoes (or lack thereof) have no discernible impact on my game...plus, no one ever wants to ride in my cart, which is nice.

The Jordan’s look great, but all I’ve found are a little more than I’d like to spend ($200+). I’ve  been eyeing the air max 90 Gs, but not sure about the spikeless aspect. I really wish I could go play a round in the spikeless and then return them if I don’t like them, but that ain’t gonna happen. Thanks for the input!

FootJoy DryJoys Tour.  Waterproof, great style and comfortable.  I just got the all white with black saddle in alligator print.  This is a great shoe if you dress in long pants.  Not a shoe I would recommend for shorts.

The adidas are super comfortable, seem to wear well, and I never had a problem with wetness soaking through.  Plus, they look kind of badass.

I’ve been wearing the FootJoy Pro SL the last couple of years.  They are really comfortable and light.  Today I wore the new Jordan ADG 3 and they were very similar to the Pro SL.  Never have had issues with spikeless,  play in mostly northeast Oklahoma area where we get a lot of rain.

I was hesitant as well to go spikeless, but The best golf shoes I've ever had are my spikeless FootJoys w/ the dial fit/no laces. Comfortable and all the grip you need.

Adidas makes great golf shoes as well, but not enough dial fits.

I am a big Nike fan, but their golf shoes suck.

I really like the Nikes I have now, they’ve lasted a few years for me, would buy again if I could find them...Several people have suggested FJ, will definitely check them out. Have you had any issues with the no lace system failing, or is that likely over time? Can you get new pieces if it does?

I use a pair of Adidas Powerband Boa spikes.  Not that opinionated on spike vs spikeless, but would definitely recommend a brand with the Boa laces/closure (Footjoy has them also, not sure what others do).

I’ve been looking at those Adidas shoes online, they look really nice. I guess I’d be a little leery of what happens when/if the dial breaks or the string breaks? I know the chances are probably slim, but could you replace these pieces? Also can’t find anywhere online that has them in stock in colors other than all black or all white in my size...

Picked up a pair of Footjoy Superlite XP’s to try out spikeless. I’m a big guy with a fast swing speed, and I’ve been impressed thus far. I will still use some of my traditional shoes at certain times, but these were really comfortable and waterproof to boot!

Had some Nike spikeless and at first they were amazing. Super comfortable and grip was good. But they only really lasted me one season. My theory is that the spike less are very susceptible to wear on the paths and in the parking lot.

So now I use the under armour with gore Tex for what proofing.

I have never worn spikeless. Currently have 3 different pairs of Footjoy Contours. One is the MyJoy U of M model. Get lots of compliments when I wear them. Also have 2 pair of Adidas which I really like. Hope you find something you like ??️

Historically Footjoy sit pretty low in the heel with reeks havoc with my plantar fasciitis. The last pair I had was better. I've had good Eccos as well and been happy. I've never gone spikeless other than a few rounds with regular shoes when it was dry and honestly that is fine for my game.

If you want something a little different, look up Duca Del Cosma.  Some cool styles (not exactly “classic,” but also not childish).
