Well this should be interesting.  He was the OC here for the Browns in 2019 and that season was year #1 of the Baker/OBJ pairing and we were all convinced (as was Sports Illustrated) that the Brownies were Super Bowl bound.  Game one against the Titans that fantasy went out the window as 17 accepted penalties later we knew the Kitchens experiment was probably not going to end well.

My lasting image of Monken was the game where he ran four verts on three straight plays when we were pinned down on our five yard line (that series didnt end well either).  Granted Freddie Kitchens was an absolute buffoon as a HC but Monken's approach to game planning left a little bit to be desired as well.  And the dude absolutely LOVES shovel-passes for some reason.

Monken is NOTHING like the Ravens old OC Greg Roman (Todd is a pass-first OC) and I'm not sure he's the best fit for Lamar either but hey, I'm a Browns fan so more power to them.

People evolve...  I suspect that Kitchens had a lot to do with game plans, in that as the HC he sets the overall direction for what they want to do.  I mean, at UGA, Monken's offense was a mirror of Jim's Harbaughffense skewed a little less run and a little more pass.  And by that, I mean that JH has a more dynamic running imagination and a less prolific passing attack.

That's not what John's Lamar Jackson oriented offense has been, but Monken proved able to move the pocket around and open pass lanes for a QB that is nowhere near Lamar's level.  He should be okay under John...

They're also competing against big-spending programs like 'Bama, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, et al. There was an ESPN article a while back about Kirby's approach to recruiting and how elaborate Georgia's recruiting operation is. Entertaining a blue-chip recruit is like a hotel hosting an A-list celebrity.

I do wonder what Georgia's offense looks like going forward.  They're losing a 26-year-old QB and haven't been asked to do much with that defense.  It'll be interesting to see where Smart goes in terms of the next offensive evolution for that team.  Monken liked the 2+ TE sets, the pro-style-ish passing game, etc.  It's worked for them obviously but we'll see how they line up next year.
