OT: The early games - Iowa v Kentucky, and Bama v Kansas State
A lot of focus, rightfully so, on the CFP games this afternoon and evening. There are two earlier games that many may watch before the game we’re most interested in kicks off.
Comments, thoughts, and perspectives on the other games: Iowa v Kentucky, and Bama v Kansas State.
Enjoy…

The over/under for the Iowa/Kentucky game should be pi.

Too bad Devin Leary and Cade can't play, might be a decent matchup.

Truth. Iowa's offense is certainly imaginary.

Transcendental comment.

I will root for Iowa and for KSU. I still think Iowa is such a struggle to watch, I hope they can win but I have my doubts that they will. I would like to see Bama lose because...well it's bama.

Bill, great minds think alike…
December 31st, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
Is this the same Bama who should be handed the title because they would be Vegas favorites? Why do they even have to play, just give em the trophy. I bet KSU doesn't even show up.

Prophetic comment here

Wouldn't mind seeing Iowa win, but completely expecting the Ferentz's to put in a weak effort.
December 31st, 2022 at 11:01 AM ^
I learned the other day that if you miss a FG in the CFL, but the ball passes the end zone, you get a point. I told my son, I can't believe Kirk Ferentz didn't leap to the CFL 20 years ago. He could strangle teams by building his score one-by-one, just like in hockey or volleyball. Imagine seeing a Toronto Argonauts victory box score with Kirk and Brian at the helm. By quarter, it would be 0-3-0-0 = 3 for the visitors. And 1-1-1-1 = 4 for the Ferentzes. With them winning it late by kicking the ball past the end zone line.

Let's hope karma bites Saban in the ass. "TCU's was a bad loss to a bad team..." Now Bama plays that bad team.
December 31st, 2022 at 10:40 AM ^
Saban actually said that?? What a d%ck. Plus, anyone that thinks KSU is a bad team obviously doesn't know anything.
December 31st, 2022 at 10:47 AM ^
Okinawa, I would very much enjoy seeing KSU win today. Bama has its full complement of players, or certainly seems to.
When was the last time one of Nick’s teams lost three games in a season?

Hoping for “today”

Kansas resident here, rooting for Kansas State (without much hope). If K State wins, the New Year's Eve parties tonight will be epic.
December 31st, 2022 at 10:55 AM ^
I think Iowa will beat KY but Alabama will roll KSU.

A quick look reveals the following…
The Iowa v Kentucky game will cost about twice as much to get in to see as the Bama Sugar Bowl will. Yes, an Iowa ticket will set you back just under $20. While a Sugar Bowl ticket to watch Saban and the Tide can be had for $10.
And, it appears you could get a ticket for you and over twenty (20) of your friends to watch the Bama Sugar Bowl for the cost of a single ticket to see the Maize & Blue this afternoon.
Go Blue!

Any event in Nashville is obscene on a holiday weekend.

Rooting for Alabama today, for the first time ever, because of Bryce Young and Will Anderson. I admire those two young guys, both projected to go in the top 5 of the draft, for not opting out and obviously believing that there are other important things in life besides just money and looking out for #1.
December 31st, 2022 at 11:44 AM ^
Oracle, I’ll root for those two to play well, but.. for Saban.. ummm “no, thank you.”
December 31st, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
Iowa on a third string QB. Even less offense than normal - either that or a challenge for Cade next year.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
It’s a great day. I’m also a UK fan. So, watching the rivalry of UK and UL first and then the big game. Fortunately, one of the only two teams I focus are good. Let’s go Blue(s)!
December 31st, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Iowa third-string QB versus UK backup. Expect an even lower-scoring game than before. First to 7 probably wins.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
It could be first team to two points.. a 2-0 final isn’t unrealistic…
December 31st, 2022 at 1:15 PM ^
And Iowa wins.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:32 PM ^
Sam Laporta playing for Iowa. Wanted one more chance to play with his team. Nice to see in an age of opt outs.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
Young looks rusty as hell.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:39 PM ^
Despite the constant love fest for Alabama and Saban they look like very lethargic and disinterested.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
Historically, the teams that want to be in bowl games win those bowl games. The teams that don't want to be in bowl games don't win those games.
It happens over and over, including to Alabama in the past.
This definitely feels like one of those games.
Alabama only cares about the CFP, as evidenced by Saban's shameless lobbying for a CFP spot. Since that did not work out, it's hard to see Alabama being excited by the alternative.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
A couple times after not making the title Alabama's been beaten up in the Sugar Bowl, Utah in 2008 and Oklahoma in 2013.

Bama struggles to run the ball. Never thought I'd say those words.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
Record setting class for BAMA this year. Something like 7 5* They don’t seem to have their normal NFL ready RB this year however.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:58 PM ^
Their o line has trouble with their assignments in the run game. Never thought I'd see the day until Saban was gone. Thier o line has always been dominant.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
I’m packaging up a box of tissues for the ESPN announcers so they can wipe some of that Alabama off their chins. It’s gotten a little out of control.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:54 PM ^
Shameful and never ending isn’t it!
December 31st, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
Really is. Also a little disappointing is their collective indifference towards the Fiesta Bowl. I can’t decide if it’s because they don’t think it’s going to be close, or their love of all things Georgia and Ohio state preclude anything beyond cursory mentions. Hell, their entire college crew is at the Peach bowl. I wonder if McDonough and Blackledge had to pay their own way to the broadcast

The stars are out in Bama and KSU game
December 31st, 2022 at 12:54 PM ^
Maybe the Iowa-Kentucky game should just be decided by who has the most first downs?
And as I type that, Iowa's offense accidentally scores a touchdown in the second quarter. I guess that puts the game on ice.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:54 PM ^
Deuce Vaughn! let's go.
