But in the marching band. :p

And gym class of course.

I played Frosh and Soph football, and a month of varsity.
'Arright!!!!! Down-ups! If it is to be, it is up to me!'
Then I realized my future was with wrestling. I did become a cheerleader though. I had a hell of a time at the football games at Clarenceville.

talented coaches, coaching in the MHSAA. The public schools, if they can stay afloat have good coaches at Cass and KIng. I loved Coach Mach, but he was by no means an innovator.

The talent just gets redistributed. There's a lot of it in the Detroit-area schools, there's a lot at Belleville right now, there's always some in the Grand Rapids area, etc.

There's a reason we don't hear about programs such as Harper Woods Bishop Gallagher, Redford Bishop Borgess, Inkster, Detroit St. Martin Deporres, etc.
February 9th, 2017 at 3:21 PM ^
I know that Bishop Gallagher closed a little more than a decade ago. They had merged with another school, changed their name, and after three years was closed permanently. Very sad since BG was my alma mater.

I was sad to hear that Gallagher closed.

Was there 06-09 when we basically became a shooting star. Broke my heart when I finally moved back last year and drove by where the school use to stand.
Now with Coach Carter at Oak Park, that has basically become the home for the DP/IHS alums that played for Carter or was even impacted by him

Verska. I have not seen a coach do more with less.
February 9th, 2017 at 9:28 AM ^
And he coached me at CC.

At St. Mikes, we were more of a baseball school - but congrats on the huge game.

The WHAM never loses yards. Never forget.
February 9th, 2017 at 10:04 AM ^
This is true. It's a great short yardage play, and you can pop some big runs with it, too.

The greatest coach in the 52 states!
February 9th, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
HA! I remember when he made that proclamation.
February 9th, 2017 at 10:21 AM ^
Shit. There is a name I haven't heard in a long ass time. Cheers to him and his career.

Played for Mach.
Lost in the semis to Troy.
Good luck to Coach Mach.
Losing Austin Brown is really going to hurt. He was the best QB I've seen at CC in a long long time, and they definitely threw the ball more with him.
February 9th, 2017 at 11:45 AM ^
Yes they threw the ball pretty often the last 2 years with Brown. Especially this past season....probably 30-40% of the time.

they had Jason Carr at QB. Mach tried to open it up a little bit then; but it didn't work out for them. Ended up losing to Deporres and MLK. Once he went back to smash mouth they went on a roll and got into the playoffs and won it all.
I think he had the same skepticism as Woody and Bo of the passing game.
I remember at football camps he played a bunch of those Bo linemen videos. 'This is a 5-2 defense...'
To this day watching any video with an industrial fan in the background and high temps makes me think of watching those videos in the Varsity locker room in the 80's.

'86? With Nick Varajon, Ken Wandzel, etc?
I was in middle school at the time. I idolized you guys. I remember looking through the fence thinking 'Those are men!' LOL.
Bro was class of '86. No school sports though, he's an amazing skier. I played for Mach for about a month in the late summer of '89. I'd played Frosh and Sophomore football but realized in the beginning of my Junior year that the team didn't have alot of space for a 160lbs tackle. :-) From then on out Coach Rod was my guy.
I went to a ton of 'East Side/West Side' football camps. I think I even have a T-shirt lying around.

You probably know my brother-in-law, Jeff Barraco; a close friend of mine, Pete Schaldenbrand; and one of their best friends, Tom Scalen. All three were at my wedding.

Pete Schaldenbrand who works at Siemens?

Rip used to always say Mr. Magni got it wrong... ;-)

Almost single-handedly got my son through his first year at CC. Now, my son is hoping Mr. Magni will write his letters of recommendation for college. Mr. Magni is a terrific teacher and a better man.

However, I always respected CC and have friends that went to CC. I'm pretty sure our football team only beat CC once when I was in school. 1997. The game was at CC or wherever CC played home games at the time. In typical OLSM asshole student section fashion, we rushed the field. Prematurely. (We were really fucking stupid).
