OT: The Boys on Amazon Prime - amazing series

Submitted by Champeen on October 13th, 2020 at 4:25 PM

So if you do not like swearing, gore or sex, this one is not for you.  The series is amazing, and Homelander has got to be the best superhero - ever.  Anthony Star is a home-run actor playing Homelander.

I do have to say, im not to crazy about 'the boys' plot. I have a hard time even hearing half of what Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) and 'Frenchie' say.  I really, really enjoy the 'supes' side of things.  And Queen Mave and Starlight are pretty hot.

I have not enjoyed a series this much since GoT.

Thanks I’ll give it a try. For some unknown reason I’ve been skeptical on starting all the Amazon shows, but I’ve watched a few and liked all of the ones I watched.

Tales from the Loop. I'm guessing from the description of The Boys it is about as far away from that as possible.

A+ writing so far. So good I have a hard time getting to the next episode because the one I just watched sticks with me a few days. Slow pace, very introspective and despite all that doesn't bore me at all.

Not a fan of Tales from the Loop whatsoever.  And I've watched a lot of similar type programs.

Slow pace, ambiguous and somewhat hard to follow backstory...just not my cup of tea.

Watched episodes 1&2...if you can tell me it gets better, I will give it another shot.

If 1 & 2 don't do it for you, it's probably not going to be your cup of tea. I really like TV that makes you have to pay attention, speculate, and think all the time, and Tales does that. I really like how the writers have put themselves in a place where so many personal stories have to jibe with other personal stories.

In a Hollywood where most TV doesn't bother to make sense scene to scene I find it refreshing.

I don’t know much about the boys but I know the difference between a John Deere and Case IH tractor.

butcher wife's story is different.

black noir seems not to be the twist of the comic book. yet.

and much much more.

the series is straying from the original source in surprising and enjoyable ways, much like the HBO series Lovecraft country which i also highly recommend to others.

It is a fantastic show with characters across the board you hate, but love and love, but can't stand.

The end of season 2 left me wondering what they're gonna do with Cindy in season 3.

Different network(s), but Doom Patrol is also a lot of fun.

Been on my radar for awhile now but can never seem to find the time to sit down and commit to watching an hour show with the wife and still need to finish Umbrella Academy season 2 and watch Dark season 3 before I can start this.  I expect Stranger Things season 4 (and maybe even Better Call Saul season 5) will get in the way as well at the rate I go.  And then we have Expanse season 5 in Dec and Wheel of Time coming out next year...

Was actually wondering today why I hadn’t seen an OT post on the show. It’s fantastic.

I would actually put the first two seasons up against damn near anything that I’ve watched. Lots of shows go off the rails after two seasons (see:  Lost), but I think it compares to some of my favorites (after two seasons) like The Wire, Breaking Bad, Saul, and Walking Dead. It’s just so cynical and dark... it’s great.

It is fantastic and the parallels to our current societal woes are undeniable and spot on.

Agree, Anthony Star as Homelander is stellar, a casting decision nearly as perfect as whoever decided Jack Gleeson should play King Joffrey in GoT.

Spot on.  Starr plays an AMAZING homelander.  Every great series needs an equally great villain.  And you nailed it with GoT analogy.  Cersei, Joffrey and Tywin (hell, the Lannisters in general) played excellent villains that you just hated/wanted to see die.  IMO the Lannisters carried the show, especially Cersie.

If Homelander was played by a half-ass actor, i don't know if i would still be watching.

I'd still be watching, but I wouldn't be nearly as infatuated with it. It would kind of depend on who was there in his place.

Starr is killing it, for sure, but there is a lot of good writing, story arc, character development behind him pulling it off.

Totally right about the Lannisters....all of them. Don't forget Tyrion, also a perfect match for the part.

The casting for that show was excellent top to bottom really....Little Finger, Ned Stark....I would be hard pressed to think of even a single bad casting decision.

The 'saving the passengers from the terrorists Airplane scene' was quite possibly the best scene in the history of television.  "hahahah, come back 123 times? ...."  like superman would be to lazy to fly back and forth saving each passenger.  "YOU STAY THE F>>> BACK OR I'LL LASER YOU GOD D>>>> IT!  I"LL LASER EVERY F>>>>ING ONE OF YOU!!!!!"

Great stuff.

Great show .  I was skeptical starting it at first because I don't really get into that genre much , but it's an all-around fantastic show and deserves the hype it's been getting.  The Deep also became a great and funny character as these past 2 seasons went on

Seems like they won't begin to film season 3 until early 2021 I read, and I know these types of shows with elaborate special effects take quite a while to release after that due to extensive post-production, so I wouldn't be surprised if season 3 doesn't drop until 2022. But we'll see.    The good news is Outer Banks season 2 is filming right now.

I agree with liking the show and not being a huge fan of the superhero genre. This is one of my "old man rants" but there is an oversaturation of comic book movies these days. That being said The Boys is very entertaining, I'm going to watch the last two episodes of season 2 this weekend.

Also totally different type of show but my wife and I really like Bosch on Amazon Prime as well, the last season for it comes out next year.
