OT: Best mobile/phone games these days?

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on February 17th, 2022 at 2:19 PM

I’m sitting here in the hospital with my 1-day-old daughter napping in my lap and realized the games on my iPhone suck. Does anyone have a game recommendation to help pass the time? I’ve enjoyed most of the popular ones in the past (Angry Birds, Candy Crush, etc.) for reference.

Thanks in advance.

I spent a lot of time on Trivia Crack.   Good game.  However, I'm not sure anyone else had this problem, but the game kept crashing on me (I have an iPhone).  The only fix I could make work was uninstalling / reinstalling the app.  Didn't take long but it was annoying.

Also nothing worse. Having a kid is the best and worst thing you can do to yourself. It will get a lot harder in a couple days and then be frikken miserable until you get the kid sleeping through the night (ferber method, sleep train the kid at ~5/6 months old) and get some semblance of a life (and sleep) back.

The Wolf simulator (your a wolf, go kill other animals, online with other players/wolfs).  Impressive multi player game.

Adventure Capitalist

My kids also enjoy many of the ones mentioned above.

First things first--congratulations!

Now, with that out of the way, looking at my phone and the stuff my daughter has placed on it for car trips when her own phone is out of juice, I got:

Pink (?)

Roblox

ProjectMakeup (maybe not so much)

Among Us

Jelly Dye

Bubble Shooter

and

Crossword. . .

I've been playing Evony, not really a good game, but very addictive if you like opening lots of prize boxes and farming resources and attacking enemies.

If there's enough people we could get a michigan alliance. It's just hard not to fall into the trap of micro-transactions, but I never pay for any games.

First off, congrats!

I like puzzle games so I do sudoku and woodoku (spin on tetris).

More time consuming games, Warships Blitz can be addicting, WGT golf if you're a golfer.

Retro Bowl might look like a Tecmo Bowl clone, which it is, but it's also soooooo deep with a Franchise mode that's better than anything Madden has and gameplay that's better than it has any right to be. Super addictive.

Also, your players can get busted for things like drugs or sneaking in hookers, and you need to figure out whether to discipline them or look the other way. Soooo... pretty realistic.

I don't have many games on my phone, but I play Boom Beach daily. It's been around for quite some time and has three different playing venues on it. Same folks who made Clash of Clans. Pretty easy to setup strategy game.

Congrats on the new baby!!

I'm more of a puzzle guy and have Sudoku as my go to time killer (when I read all the MGoContent first!).  I have Freecell and Jigsaw HD on the iPad.

Nothing new, but I play Words With Friends every day of my life. I even play with a friend from high school's dad on a daily basis, and I haven't talked to that friend in over a decade.

I play NBA 2k mobile (not to be confused with all the other NBA games).  It has it's bugs but it's a game you can be perfectly competitive while not spending any money.  And, although you have to wait for energy to replenish, you can do multiplayer games to pass the time, or you can just log in twice a day at your leisure so you don't have to be ultra competitive.

Essentially you earn player cards for your lineup.  They are current and hall of famer NBA players.  You train them up.  There are different "tiers" of player cards as you progress so you are challenged.  Players can be fitted with shoes and a mentor to further increase stats.

At the end of the season, the game resets and you lose all your gear, cards, etc.  Your top players become mentors for next year and their bonus status depend on how much you leveled them up the year before.  I'm currently on my 3rd season so my roster is getting pretty deep.
