OT - Best Christmas/Holiday Show, and What's in your Glass Tonight?

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Pretty tremendous day of sports if you watched Michigan's OT thriller vs. UCLA, then watched that Army-Navy game in the snow, wow.  its snowing now and winter is finally here in Michigan.  It's also that time of the year when the Christmas and holiday shows are on as much as we wish college football was.  When you start thinking about it, there are way more specials these days then when many of us were young.

Some of the classics are animated like Rudolph, Snoopy, Frosty and others.  Then in the '80's you started to see some actual movies that were either about the holiday, like Scrooged, or had the holiday as a big part of it, movies like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.

So, two questions tonight:

1.  What is your favorite Christmas/Holiday show

2.  What is in your glass this pre-holiday weekend

Have a great weekend, hopefully if you are at a holiday party it is fun and not a bore.

p.s. You don't have to pick the original Rudolph as your favorite, but if you don't at least like it alot, well, there's probably multiple containers of skim milk in your fridge.

Here's a picture of Harbaugh if he was in fact a clay-mation coach...

EDIT:  Baker Mayfield wins the Heisman, to the surprise of nobody.

In no particular order:

Die Hard

Rudolph Saves Christmas

Home Alone

And I'm drinking Ardbeg Uigeadail while decorating the christmas tree as the snow falls outside. Pretty solid night!

How the Baker stole Christmas is my favorite. The climax is really cool.... the main character plants a flag in the middle of Ohio stadiums field. That part should be showed a lot tonight if you watch the heisman presentation. To see the whole movie I guess youtube might work.

The Grinch movie, Charlie Brown Christmas, A Christmas Story, Muppets Christmas Carol...I could go on...but you want only one? I don’t man, why don’t you ask which one is my favorite child instead...that might be easier to answer. As for a drink, spiked nog works great.

snow on the ground, roaring fire, and watching It's a Wonderful Life. For a couple hours, I don't have to think about work or the world and just revel in George Bailey's holiday story to which I can most assuredly relate. And I'll be damned if I don't get a lump in my throat at the end every time. Merry Christmas!

The Tim Allen Santa Clause movies are underrated, especially the second one with the fascist substitute Santa. I didn't know there were others who appreciated Lethal Weapon at Christmas time--a Christmas tradition among my brothers and I going back many many years.

Drinking mostly wine these days but at Christmas I love a good single malt and lately I've been discovering the joys of a good gin martini.

I go on my 90's show spree and watch all the Christmas episodes. Boy Meets World, Fresh Prince, Wayans Bros, Hey Arnold etc...

Movies: Home alone never gets old for me. It's a must around this time.

Watching Home Alone right now since it's free on cable. Got Elf and Christmas vacation on the DVR for the next couple of weekends

Just finished watching It’s a Wonderful Life with the fiancé. Darn that’s a good movie.
Sipping a couple of 12 Dogs Christmas Ale from Thirsty Dog Brewing (Cleveland).
Elf is beginning to take over as the favorite movie though.

It is a good movie, but every time I watch it, I can't help but see a plot hole that the girlfriend pointed out to me:

When Clarence shows George how life would have been if he'd never been born, we see that Mary has become this mousy-looking librarian in thick glasses. Without George Bailey, she's a dowdy old spinster. But why? Mary was a beautiful, intelligent, charming young woman when she went off to college. She would have caught the eye of many young men (like Sam Wainright, for example.)

But just because George wasn't born, she magically becomes a schlump? Nope. Even for a fantasy, it doesn't work.
