OT - Best Christmas/Holiday Show, and What's in your Glass Tonight?

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Pretty tremendous day of sports if you watched Michigan's OT thriller vs. UCLA, then watched that Army-Navy game in the snow, wow.  its snowing now and winter is finally here in Michigan.  It's also that time of the year when the Christmas and holiday shows are on as much as we wish college football was.  When you start thinking about it, there are way more specials these days then when many of us were young.

Some of the classics are animated like Rudolph, Snoopy, Frosty and others.  Then in the '80's you started to see some actual movies that were either about the holiday, like Scrooged, or had the holiday as a big part of it, movies like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.

So, two questions tonight:

1.  What is your favorite Christmas/Holiday show

2.  What is in your glass this pre-holiday weekend

Have a great weekend, hopefully if you are at a holiday party it is fun and not a bore.

p.s. You don't have to pick the original Rudolph as your favorite, but if you don't at least like it alot, well, there's probably multiple containers of skim milk in your fridge.

Here's a picture of Harbaugh if he was in fact a clay-mation coach...

EDIT:  Baker Mayfield wins the Heisman, to the surprise of nobody.

but the kids just finished Arthur Christmas about 5 min ago which is a more recent, but pretty good one.

Elf, and The Ref are two of my personal favorites.

A Christmas Story, although Home Alone offers me a ton of nostalgia because NBC used to show it every year on Thanksgiving just as we were closing up our deer camp for the year. Drink wise, gimme Kessler and Vernors, because I want to gag and then sneeze.

Cliché favorite holiday movies: Die Hard and NL Christmas Vacation. Drinking Black Crack from Southern Star in TX... they aged their Buried Hatchet stout in bourbon barrels, and it’s fucking spectacular. It’s got a great finish — milky but dry. Shitty stouts have that super sweet finish that coats your mouth and leaves your breath smelling like dog shit; Black Crack is Not That. A++, highly recommend, if you can get your hands on it.

I like the Christmas episodes in that like when they run an illegal Christmas tree ring. King of the Hill I like when an old lady wants to die in Hanks house during his Christmas party and he calls the cops .

I prefer the classic "it's a wonderful life" and tonight I have a fire going while sipping a brandy while my wife decorates the tree and my child is out caroling with his church group

I saw the original broadcast of Rudolph in 1964 - in black and white - when I was a little kid . . . well half of it.

I lived in a small little farm town and my parents were across the street with some friends.  I was watching it at home alone (you could do that kind of thing back then, nobody worried about it).

When the abominable snowman came on I got so scared that I left the house and ran across the street, banging on the door for them to let me in.  They just laughed and gave me candy.

It was those teeth:

I didn't see the finish until the next year, this time with the whole family.

Holiday Inn. It's old black and white. Very predictable but I love it. It shows a simpler time with an uncomplicated plot and characters . I'd give up all the fancy electronic bs we have now for a little simplicity. As long as I can still shower every day

Enjoyed Michigan over UCLA And then the Army Navy game.

It Happened on 5th Avenue in now on my top 10 and I never heard of it until three years ago

A Christmas Story

Christmas Vacation

Christmas in Connecticut

I have a buddy that watches Stalag 17 every Christmas.  I might opt for Die Hard

I find the generational love for either Rankin Bass Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or The Year Without Santa Clause to be interesting.  They were made 10 years apart and men 10 years younger than me get a little silly singing I'm Mr. 10 Below.

Been socializing all day, Johhn Walker Black, Baily's, Black Walnut Creme Wine made in Michigan and Achor Brewing Christmas Ale 2017

I am looking forward to the Outback Bowl.
