Redhawk has awesome sandwiches. I never tried their burger.
Blimpies is over rated paper sized patties.

This is true. There are few delis outside of the North/Midwest.
Most may think they are a deli, but in truth, they are only sandwich shops.
Maize and Blue is barely average.
Just a quick PSA here (and this is no comment on the quality of their food)...but as a local, I can tell you that the Maize n Blue Deli has struggled with cockroach infestation for a long long time. Less than ideal.

Red Hawk is my go-to spot when visiting AA. The food is good, location is great, and the owners are super nice! Wonderful spot (and their mustard game is strong!)

Wow - Red Hawk is still there ...on State near the arcade? Great to hear some things haven't changed on campus. That was a key spot to bring a date - casual but still classy, decent prices, good food. If I recall great burgers back in early 90s.
The Red Hawk has been serving up great burgers for years. If you want to get outside of town, the South Lyon Hotel, just north of where Pontiac Trail crosses 10 Mile, serves a killer burger at lunch, along with $2 drafts. My new favorite place.
Sidecar in Ypsilanti

Yeah, I'll second the vote for Sidetrack.
If we're going to open it up to surrounding communities, then Sidetrack is definitely the place to go, and Depot Town in Ypsilanti is a neat little place anyway.
Just shoot me, but I'll take a half dozen sliders with cheese at WC over all these others.
Zingerman's Roadhouse has good burgers.
Ok, but WAY over-priced, thanks to their marketing schtick, Zingermans has a cult like following.

The OP asked for a good hamburger; cost was not a requirement.
They aren't overpriced. Dry aged meat isn't cheap. Maybe it's more than you want to pay for a burger, but that's different than being overpriced.
Also what is their marketing schtick? Start as a small deli and slowly expand their business over decades to other food related small businesses that all focus on quality, good service, and above average employee pay and benefits?
I get it. People don't like things that are popular. Nevertheless, good things are often popular because of intrinsic value and not just "marketing schtick."
Frita Batidos, and it’s not even close. Its a Cuban place, but their beef Fritas (burgers) are amazing
I'm sure there are other places with good burgers in a town of 100K (+ Ypsi), but, yeah, Frita Batidos is a great place.

I’ve had some excellent burgers at Fritas, and IDK, probably just bad luck on my part, but twice I’ve been served way under cooked burgers. I’m down with rare, but that’s not what I’m talking about. Now I can’t go there, though my son begs for that place.
Yeah, they fall victim to having hipsters in the back always undercooking everything. I order medium, and at Fritas I order Medium Well. I would never order a steak this temperature, but it's the only way to get a burger that isn't soaking in grease and bloody.
Am I the only person who thinks it's kind of a pain in the ass to eat their burgers? They have no bun integrity and it feels like every time you pick it up it's going to fall apart. Maybe I need to tone down the toppings or something idk. The chorizo tastes very good though.

Something happen to Blimpy Burgers? I haven't been there in a while, but the burgers were the best.
It moved over on Ashley by the Fleetwood. Place rules. They won't be nice to you and you might not feel great after, but it's damn tasty and worth the experience.

Blimpy has always been overrated. Service isn't good either. A lot of their reputation goes back to when people were students and that was where you went near the campus. Pretty much any of the other choices listed in responses here are better.
Blimpy Burgers are great burgers. Sure you'll get a nice burger (and a beer) at other upscale Main Street establishments, but Blimpy's is a burger joint and it's an experience. Sure the nostalgia weighs in heavily but that's sort of the point of a college burger joint. Otherwise you might as well go to Five Guys at the mall.
While you're at Blimpy's get some deep fried cauliflower and onion rings. They're delicious.
I liked Blimpy's (Crazy Jim's). This is decades (literally) old news, but everything they served there was fresh. My best friend from my time at Michigan worked there part time. His friend bought Crazy Jim's from Crazy Jim and owned/ran it for a few years (I'm thinking some time in the 1990s), but eventually sold it back to Crazy Jim. This was all before they moved the location before the university bought the building.
I heard they still expect you to know exactly what you want and not to dither when ordering. To be honest Crazy Jim's couldn't exist in East Landfill. The clientele there wouldn't be fast enough to keep the place from grinding to a halt.
It is good, and it's cheaper than food.
Haven't tried it since they moved, but Blimpy Burger had great hamburgers - but the fries were bland and very undercooked.
The deep fried vegetables is their best side dish. Cheaper than Food.
Seconded on the deep fried vegetables... and make sure to get cocktail sauce for dipping them in. Game changer.

Agree. They use high quality, grass fed beef, unlike many of these other burger places. Their truffle fries are a must-order item too.
