OT - Barwis to Red Wings

Interesting development; would like to know if there have been whispers from former players/folks in the know in SE Mich re. fitness issues on the team over the past couple of years?  Barwis suggests not, but he'd kind of have to say that I suppose...

For starters, Yzerman hired internationally renowned strength and conditioning coach and entrepreneur Mike Barwis as the director of sports science and human performance.

Barwis, who held a similar job at the University of Michigan from 2007-10 – coming from West Virginia with football coach Rich Rodriguez – said the Red Wings made the change because Yzerman wants to do everything possible to allow each player to be the absolute best they can be.

That might imply that Detroit’s strength and conditioning was subpar under former GM Ken Holland, but Barwis says that’s not the case.

Lots of former Michigan hockey players have been known to train with him since he stayed around the area after Rodriguez left. Also I think this is old news, I thought it was announced earlier this summer.

great hire IMO

one thing is clear.  red wings to get stronger all around.

stronger skating, stronger in the corners .... and OMFG stronger in front of the net please.  so tired of seeing our defensemen get pushed around our own zone
