OT: B1G transfer news from today

Submitted by njvictor on April 3rd, 2021 at 6:12 PM

There were 3 somewhat big pieces of transfer news in the B1G today:

Maryland received commitments from Rhode Island PG Fatts Russell (14.7 PPG, 4.5 APG, 4.5 RPG) and Georgetown C Qudus Wahab (12.7 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 1.2 BPG) today which is two big pick ups at positions of need for the Terps. Looks like Turgeon is staying and if everyone from this year's team comes back, then they'll definitely be quite a good team next year

Then Illinois landed Florida C Omar Payne (3.8 PPG, 3.2 RPG), who you may remember as this guy, who straight up assaulted a Tennessee player month or so back. Seems to maybe foreshadow that Kofi is gone and seems like a good fit with the culture at Illinois ;)

Wow, Wahab is a great pickup for Maryland. He looked greatly improved during the Big East tourney and should be a force for the Terps next season

Maryland should definitely be a force next year with those additions, unfortunately.

Illinois could have a big drop off if they lose Cockburn, Ayo, Miller, and Fraizer. You hate to see it.

Still waiting with baited breathe to see what UM players come back and what, if any, moves Juwan makes in the transfer portal.

I'd love to see:

-- starting lineup of Brooks, Adam Miller, Johns, Brown, and Dickenson

-- bench of Collins, Zeb, Houstan, Diabate, and Bufkin

That's NC-caliber talent. It will be tough to keep Houstan and Diabate out of the starting lineup as the season progresses.

This is a very doable lineup for UM.

Miller is a great shooter but that’s all we saw of him this year. I don’t know if Illinois’s offense held him back or if it’s just being a freshman but he definitely doesn’t look like a replacement for Franz or Livers.

Not sure we know that, do we?

I saw Miller take it to the rack with authority a few times -- he's a talent.

Regardless, Juwan ought to be able to reel in a good combo guard to fill that slot.

Good pickups by Maryland but with Turgeon at the helm I'm not sure the coaching will take much advantage of it.  Illinois is likely to be significantly worse next year based on talent and it'll be interesting to see how Underwood handles it.

I don't think there ever was a thread on it, but Nunge from Iowa entered the portal a few days ago too

Not familiar with Iowa's roster, but I can't imagine losing your first two centers is a good sign

This is all good news, especially the part about Illinois picking up a punk that will add to my disdain for their program. Given their performance in the NCAA tournament, the B1G could stand some aftermarket upgrades. And, as icing of the cake, I don’t give a fuck who the rest of the league add, we gonna beat they asses next year.

I don't know who those players Maryland got are, but if we're ranking players by having awesome names they knocked it out of the park.
