OT: Anyone else so desperate for sports you're watching hot dog eating?

Submitted by MMBbones on July 2nd, 2023 at 3:48 PM

ESPN is currently airing the hot dog eating contest. And I am desperate enough to watch.

I say this by way of confession.

How many more days? 63?

Wish the Tigers were a bit better...

You missed out on a sports dynasty because you didn't want to be thought of (By someone? Who?) as a bandwagon jumper?  I don't understand that at all.  Nobody hands out awards for keeping your fandom high when your team sucks, unless you consider maybe having cheaper season tickets once they get better again...which will last like a year before ownership cranks up ticket prices with the slightest sign of success.

I definitely turned down my fandom of Michigan Football during RichRod/Hoke from the Carr era and turned it back up during the Harbaugh era.  I would have been a horrible person to be around living and dying with the success of RR/Hoke teams.

Watching Guy Fieri eat country ham biscuits in Tennessee.   The website for the place he’s at is not responding so probably not the only one.   It’s “cooled” down to 85F and 78%RH.   Not my favorite time of year.

I actually like The (British) Open and The Tour (did some competitive cycling decades ago).    But neither are a real substitute for football.

62 days.   Meeting my son for the opener.   Just ordered Hail and Tips for Driving in Ohio for him.

Cant wait!

Been in the hospital helping my 81 year old dad recover from major surgery.   TV is all he is up for so we’ve been watching the Gold Cup and the USMNT.

Lots of young talent to get familiar with as they attempt to prove themselves to the powers that be.

That being said we spent two hours watching a NASCAR rain delay.  Pretty rough.

I watch football all year.  I like to watch XFL, USFL, and CFL teams that have Wolverines on them.

CFL season is underway.

College, Sept-Jan
XFL, Feb-May
USFL, April-June
CFL, May-Nov

XFL was fun this year, with the Arlington Renegades winning the championship, with great plays by De'Veon Smith and Brandon Rusnak (Brandon Watson, when we was at Michigan).

No to the hotdog eating. That much sodium in such a short period of time is not good for these people's cardiovascular and renal systems.

Meh, I am auto racing aficionado, it bridges the gap nicely. I also get more shit done on the weekends around the house, if the Tigers were actually good I probably wouldn't get anything accomplished.

I watched Marbula 1 on YouTube.  It's marble racing.   Yes that's right marble racing but with commentary and setup like it's F1.  It was pretty fascinating.  My wife is like what the hell are you watching?!?

I have never watched a hot dog eating competition, and - honestly hope that I never will.

However, I did watch NASCAR from downtown Chicago.  It surprises, or disappoints, me  - that they didn’t have a realistic contingency plan for weather.  It’s crystal clear skies today with very reasonable temperatures to start the day.

The Street Race in Chicago resembled bumper cars at an arcade.  I’m glad no one was injured.  With the amount of rain and tight track / number of turns - it was entertaining - and many who came in from out of town enjoyed their visit.  However, four inches of rain over a couples of days.. which, coincided directly with the race schedule - was far from ideal.

It was great to see Fowler get back in the winner’s circle.

Wimbledon starts today. Definitely not world-class soccer, but the Gold Cup is going on and soon into the playoff rounds. US is fielding their B team and crushing bad teams.

Not really, no.

I get my off-season sports fix from Kusogrande.  A streamer ( https://www.twitch.tv/brossentia ) runs an annual near-year-long tournament where gamers play bad, old, usually-obscure video games they'd never played before.

This season's tourney is wrapping up, though.  Only a few matches left:
