OT: 10-year old kid worried that a Mott doctor may make him a Michigan fan.
A story that all fans can get behind. 10-year old Ivan Applin was worried that the Mott doctors fixing the hole in his heart would change his heart to love the University of Michigan.
“He asked if the Michigan doctors were going to make his heart love University of Michigan instead of Ohio State,” his mother Jennifer laughs.

Mott is only fixing his heart. They can't do anything with his head...
Best of luck young fellow. Here's hoping for a long run of bitter rivalry!

No amount of surgery or medication can fix a buckeye. Best wishes to the kid though I hope he can overcome his ailments.

rivalry. It just accepts hearty souls with open arms and offers an opportunity to make your own way.
We all breathe the same air, we all bleed red and bruise maize and blue, and we all cherish our children's future. And sometimes a UM doctor helps save a Buckeye. And that's a good day anytime, even on a cold slate gray day on the last Saturday in November when life sometimes stands still for a few hours in Ann Arbor and Columbus, surgical procedures nothwithstanding.

God bless him. The doctors would make sure that he can support his favorite team whole heartedly.

Side story: My father-in-law has had multiple heart surgeries in recent years at U of M hospital (and is having another one this afternoon), and his surgeon's name is Bo.

Her cousins were born in Ohio, and naturally were Ohio State fans. When one of her cousins was a child (1970s) he was at UM to have a surgery / treatments. One of the family members apparently thought it would be fun to see if Bo would pay him a visit and wish him well. Sure enough, Bo came and visited him in the hospital.

Meh. I dunno. It wasn't football related, but Michigan related so I wasn't sure. Made a gut call. Doesn't really change the topic though. I thought it was a sweet story.

If he's as Ohio State fan, he could have just went to see a Buckeye doctor. I think they just give kids an awful beer and a pack of cigs.

The kid will be fine. He went to Mott.
You see, the joke isn't about the hole in the kid's heart (which was repaired) but about the rivalry. Some OSU moron likely put it in his head that the doctors would change his heart, making it bleed Maize & Blue. Hell, they may actually believe it themselves...

Or he's a young child who's having a procedure done on his heart at a rival school. It's a pretty easy and innocent assumption to make. Like Blazefire said above, not the time or place.

Really like stories like this that put things into perspective how small a rivalry and sports are.

I don't know if the young man's heart will soften toward Michigan. Kids are hard to predict that way. But I can pretty much guarantee that his parents' hearts will open up a bit to the maize and blue.
Glad to see a story like this - all the best to that family (except during The Game).

My Boston Terrier, when he was a 4 month puppy, developed a hiatal (sp?) hernia. He was miserable. Upchucked 34 times over Labor Day weekend The Veterinary School at MSU repaired it 9 years ago. He is as healthy as ever. I still don't like MSU. In fact when my wife took him back a month later for his checkup, he had on his UM harness
