Sounds about right. I live in Delaware OH and hear a ton of OSU news, and OSU knew it was going to lose 2 of them, just not sure which 2. I don't think Mullet was really happy with Day saying he was nowhere near ready for CF and that factored into his portal decision

i just watched a few HS vides of ewers. not impressed. dude has a weak arm and funky mechanics.
December 3rd, 2021 at 10:02 PM ^
He’s the 6th recruit to ever receive a 1.000 rating from 24/7… along with Rashan Gary, Jadaveon Clowney, Ernie Sims, Vince Young, and Robert Nkemdiche. He’s guaranteed to be a 1st round pick and is the highest rated QB prospect of this century. But sure, let’s take mgojohnnys word on it
December 3rd, 2021 at 10:58 PM ^
Guaranteed eh? By whom?
December 3rd, 2021 at 11:44 PM ^
Day saying he was nowhere near ready for CF
Day + Johnny > Lorentz

You must have been equally enamored by Don Brown’s “#1 ranked defense”.
Sad
December 4th, 2021 at 2:29 AM ^
Logged in to tell you all those guys have been busts (Even Gary as a first rounder) and should probably not have been taken where they were in the draft. Being a 1.000 recruit is like winning coach of the year, you are destined to under achieve.
December 4th, 2021 at 7:28 AM ^
Clueless take. Gary is on the cusp of the Pro Bowl. He’s really exploded for the Packers this year.
December 3rd, 2021 at 9:37 PM ^
Nice to see another Delaware resident supporting the Wolverines!
December 3rd, 2021 at 9:49 PM ^
Very few of us around here

As a Temple grad I approve this message.

Stroud going pro, as a receiver?

A bad Day is having another bad Day

Joe Burrow Pt 2
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:07 PM ^
That would be hilarious
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:00 PM ^
It would be more hilarious if OSU claimed him on draft day, as they did with Burrow.
In case this hasn't already been posted, his 247 profile:

#1 QB, #1 Texan, #1 overall. Crazy.
December 3rd, 2021 at 9:29 PM ^
Sounds like he took the “signing bonus” and is looking for another one.
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:05 PM ^
What a shame.
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:05 PM ^
I wonder if he feels like skipping his last year to get in on the NIL stuff earlier was worth it?
Not ragging on the kid, actually wondering. What a strange start to his career
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:08 PM ^
My guess is he does not regret his decision just destination. He will likely start wherever he goes, he is still a year closer to the NFL, and he got paid.
December 3rd, 2021 at 10:07 PM ^
The part people aren't realizing is that he has received NOTHING yet and did not get paid. He did receive a free LEASED car which is now going back. And according to his $1.4 million agreement with GT Sports Marketing out of NJ, he has to start 8 games by the end of the 2022 to even qualify for the huge money. Obviously, that wasn't going to happen at OSU so he bolted. He's 3rd going into the Spring behind Stroud and McCord. Just another hot shot kid that thought he was going to come in and light it up. He was having a very hard time especially after Day said he was nowhere near ready for college football. He never threw a pass at OSU
December 4th, 2021 at 12:22 AM ^
NIL turbocharges the Portal. Kids want exposure to boost their NIL stock. They won't wait on the bench. It will literally cost them money.
December 4th, 2021 at 9:24 AM ^
Exactly right. The days of the top level teams stockpiling massive amounts of talent are gone
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:11 PM ^
$1.4M, tough to regret that.
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:33 PM ^
Wonder how many future buckeyes are going to be getting deals like that since this one basically went to waste. Paid all that money for someone to ride the bench for 1 year and then leave.
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:25 PM ^
look at it this way, Ewers just collected six (possibly seven) figures in NIL money to train and practice in a world class setting for 3 months instead of attending high school. Dude basically got paid to go to NFL vocational camp for his senior project and now transfers back home better and richer with a full 4 years of eligibility. Doubt he regrets it - gamed the system.
December 3rd, 2021 at 9:27 PM ^
Uh, you don't know all of the facts....neither did I until I found this on another board about Ewers NIL deal. Ewers hasn't received anything from the NJ based company and is in danger of not getting anything
Apparently the story is this and I'm just transferring the info I read - actually on a PSU board
Ewers signed a million dollar NIL deal with a kombucha company. However, the company has a provision stating that Ewers MUST start X number of games by the 2022 season. When it became clear that Stroud was the man and no way Ewers was going to pass him -- and wasn't even guaranteed he'd pass up Kyle McCord -- Ewers bolted. Apparently Ewers even asked for that guarantee and was told no
Multiple sources claiming this.
So, in reality, he has to start next year or lose everything, Just another hot shot HS kid that thought he'd come in and light everything up when he got to OSU and found out differently
December 3rd, 2021 at 10:33 PM ^
This is going to change the NIL/transfer paradigm quite a bit. It's one thing for a big-headed kid to selfishly demand playing time, it's another thing when there are seven figures on the line for it. Could spread some of the top-end talent around if more of the top-end talent signs deals like this, though it'll feel pretty grimy if guys are known to be playing for those non-top-five teams just because they can start there.
So Ewers is going to go somewhere where he's a sure starter. Probably needs to be a bit of a name still. Should be interesting.
December 3rd, 2021 at 11:34 PM ^
Agree, and you can bet that any team that this kid plays for - and is guarantees starting - will just have friction and resentment on their roster. Just have to wonder if that was the case on the OSU roster this year with Ewers. If you read some of the OSU boards, it seems many of their fans aren't really all that upset about the transfer and I have a hunch that the ridiculous contract was a big part of it.
December 4th, 2021 at 7:41 AM ^
Why is it guaranteed friction where ever he goes? Also, I am pretty sure that the OSU not upset in the way many of us were not upset when ZC transfered to UCLA last year. Hated to see him go but we are loaded at RB.
December 4th, 2021 at 9:37 AM ^
Yep, count me as one that wasn't all that upset with the ZC transfer and it proved out this year that he wasn't missed. Just shows that the coaches see these kids everyday and have a far greater grasp on things than the fans do
December 4th, 2021 at 12:43 AM ^
"wouldn't even pass Kyle McCord"
Based on watching McCord it would appear he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.
December 4th, 2021 at 9:42 AM ^
McCord started one game when Stroud was hurt and lit it up. In fact, he was named B1G freshman of the week - he's only a true freshman
December 4th, 2021 at 2:57 PM ^
Or he’s in danger of getting zero figures because high schoolers maybe don’t have great agents working out their deals
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:05 PM ^
OSU has a culture problem.
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:52 PM ^
Sneaky good comment. +1
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:06 PM ^
Does he have to return that $1.4M NIL money?
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:44 PM ^
I heard he's going to give it to the athletic department staffers that took a pay cut during COVID.
Well, perhaps not.
He's returning home to garner a ten year multimillion dollar deal!
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:55 PM ^
His NIL cash was from GT Sports Marketing in New Jersey. Ewers might be getting a visit from a couple of guys named Guido and Rocco carrying baseball bats.
December 3rd, 2021 at 11:08 PM ^
God forbid it wasn't based in, say, Detroit, and you had used names, say, Deon and Marcus.... Because only then it'd be racist. Cant have it both ways.
This was the second stereotype message in this thread, the other being the trailer park comment.

He saw what the Michigan D-line did to Stroud...and was like

Feels like Gunner Kiel (sp?) a decade later

Maybe more like Tate Martell.
