I want someone who wants to be here

By all accounts, he “wants” to be here (or at least, Michigan is at the top of his choices) but the NIL offer alongside jobs at Nike for his family was too much for him to turn down.

While there are some reports of him not being the biggest fan of Weiss, I don’t think that means he’s a guy you just don’t go after. If there’s interest, I don’t see how you don’t pursue a 5* talent in your own backyard. Especially if the belief is that he IS better than Davis.

I’ll never understand the mindset that if a kid commits to another school, it means he doesn’t want to be at Michigan. There’s a lot that goes into these decisions and ultimately, you can only choose one school. You can want to be at multiple schools but it doesn’t work that way.

Kids like that listen more to their handlers than the coach. That's the problem. A kid like Corum just looks at what work needs to be done and goes about his business. Some of these high ranked kids, though, listen to family/friends/"advisors" who nothing about football rather than to proven NFL/CFB coaches. The moment things get tough they will revert to that same group of people rather than an all-time great coach. They won't double down on buying in and winning for the team. They will look out for their own.

Hard Pass.

Nah, everyone’s situation is different. I don’t know Moore’s personal life, but let me throw a hypothetical at you.

He comes from a hard upbringing. Money is tight for his family, struggling to make ends meet for years. A school that you like already comes at you with a life changing offer that not only includes enough money to support you and your family, but sets your family up with jobs moving forward.

“Going about your business” doesn’t mean going to the school fans want you to go to. There is no reason Oregon can’t do just as well preparing Moore for the next level as Michigan can. And they’re willing to set Moore and his family up well financially as well? Miss me with the “listen more to their handlers” nonsense. You don’t know these kids, their situations, or what goes into their decisions. That’s an unfair assumption to throw at a 17 year old kid because he doesn’t play into your Michigan bias.

Oregon is a fine school with a track record of getting QBs to the NFL (something we can’t claim). If they’re also willing to set him up financially and give his family jobs to improve on their financial situation, then I can’t sit here and fault the kid and throw around baseless accusations about him.

I guess the issue is, as you noted, Moore's commitment seemingly brings with it certain financial commitments to him and his family that UM isn't likely to facilitate.  I'm sure he wants to win and Michigan looks good right now but how does he handle things like being 2nd-string for at least a season (he's absolutely going to be behind McCarthy next year, if not longer)?  Oregon took a 5* QB 2 years ago but he's been stapled to the bench all year and necessitated the Ducks taking on Bo Nix in the transfer portal for a year.  So Moore undoubtedly can look at that depth chart and see a clearer path to early playing time.  I'm not saying he couldn't handle it but (and this sounds cliche) Michigan's been winning so much recently because there's a level of buy-in up-and-down the roster that you have to consider that when pursuing a kid this late who already spurned you.  Not because I blame Moore for wanting to set himself and his family up for success but because, frankly, Harbaugh isn't going to put up with that level of drama and it's not like Michigan doesn't have options coming up.

Moore isn't going to Oregon for the old OC. Probably got a huge NIL deal. I think we still take a QB this cycle, as it is always good to have new guys there if there comes a time. Remember when we missed out on like EVERY single QB in 2020 and took Dan villari?  We should ALWAYS have a QB in every class even if they'll never play. Denegal won't play, Orji I could see playing a bit, but it's really JJ, then hopefully Davis, then there's another top QB out of the state of Michigan that we hopefully get in 2025.  Bowman will be gone I think, so maybe we bring in a transfer with experience to keep everyone fresh and the competition up.

Yeah that’s not what happened in the 2020 class at all. Michigan had a commitment from a 4* QB, JD Johnson, but he was forced to medically retire midway through his senior season.

Leaving Michigan with a short amount of time to find a replacement, we jumped into the CJ Stroud sweepstakes. Obviously came up short there, so we went and grabbed Villari. It wasn’t a product of Michigan missing on targets. We HAD our guy. He just had to quit football.

Dante Moore could be back on the menu, but it does seem like Jadyn Davis is a done deal. MSU fans seem to think he'll want to join their 5 win team for whatever reason
