Orange Bowl Ticket Questions

Submitted by michgoblue on December 6th, 2021 at 11:32 PM

My wife and I decided to take the plunge and take our family (4 total) to the game. The tickets are a fortune, especially because I am buying 4 and we want good seats. My question for those who have purchased tickets to the CFP before:  do prices usually drop as it gets closer to the game, or am I better off buying now while the selection is decent?  Bonus question for those who have been to Hard Rock before: best viewing angles. My wife is short snd my kids are only 10 and 14 - 100s or 200s sections. We will aim to be between the 30 yard line. Final question: will there be more Michigan fans along the Michigan sideline and more Georgia fans along the Georgia sideline, or for a game like this is it pretty much interspersed?

Thanks for any advice and Go Blue!

buddy and I spent a mint for upper deck 50 yard line seats because the club level at that shitty stadium appear to be way too low. stub hub has pretty accurate sight line views for every seat, check those out first before making your purchase.

In terms of ticket prices coming down, based on this graph I don't see that really happening. The school with the biggest alumni base in the world with a ton of disposable income, waiting years for this to happen. That's a perfect storm for absurd ticket prices.

Nobody knows since it’s Michigans first playoff and the pent up demand is crazy. They didn’t come down much for the big ten championship.  For what you want you are looking at well over $5k even if prices drop quite a bit.  Unless your kids are big fans I’d put some serious thought into paying that to make them sit through a 4hr game for that price.

They are coming down. Still way too high for me but coming down. I can’t say for sure how long that trend will continue. I think JDue51 must be sponsored by TicketIQ (who also sponsors Mgoblog), because he keeps sharing these graphs.

Hard to say if they will keep coming down or not.  I pulled the trigger yesterday on lower bowl end zone.  Keep in mind you pay quite a bit more than the listed price due to “convenience fees” and the like.  A pair at $833 each ended up being $2,118 total.  Crazy amount to spend.  But I remember spending $400ish to see the 1997 Rose Bowl which seemed crazy at the time but what a great memory.  Hoping M bowl game #2 for me is just as memorable.

One of the few downsides to being part of such a large and involved fanbases is ticket prices to a game like this.

I took my Sparty daughter, her fiance, and youngest daughter to the 2015 Cotton Bowl and watched Sparty get their asses handed to them 38-0. For my daughter's sake, I feigned sadness.

I don't recall exactly how much I spent on tickets, and they were just a step or two above the cheapest ones, but they were in the neighborhood of $80.00 each, all fees included.

I've been watching over the past few days and they've come down a little but I can't imagine they'll drop a lot more -- maybe a little. I've also seen tickets added. So two that I had my eye on sold but then ten more showed up (Stubhub). As for where, it's a personal preference. I like being close to the field to feel the action even if it means I can't see the whole field and what's going on.

As of a couple years ago, the record high for cheapest ticket price to a CFP semifinal was $300 for the 2017 UGA vs Oklahoma Rose Bowl (usually it's around $100, with the Orange Bowl generally being cheaper). Price trends showed that UGA, not Oklahoma, was driving the price higher. UGA fans travel very well and Michigan does as well. I would be delighted to be able to pay $300 for this game, but I suspect prices to only come down to $500.

You're looking at $2K per ticket at least.  Maybe more, I love the dedication and took my family of 4 to many Michigan Bowl games.   I just can't justify $10K to watch one game.

I watched B1G Champ game tix all week, and prices never really dropped after Tu/Wed.

Given the factors that everyone else has mentioned, as well as the fact that UGa fans are 1) much closer to FL and 2) just as rabid about their recent success and this game, I don't see prices improving much.

The reason there was a price drop for the Big Ten title game was because Ohio State fans had purchased tickets beforehand. There was a big sale off to not lose their money on the Friday before the game.  With the Orange Bowl, you don't have that situation and I can't see it falling too far.

I'd wait until at least next week when all the actual tickets are released to individuals from the school allotments. Should create a little more supply on the secondary market. Go Blue

I live in Tampa and have been there before a few times.  Either 100 or 200 level would be absolutely fine. It might depend based on cost/availability. Upper deck corners are not the best seats there - try to avoid. Upper sideline is a good view too, maybe cost is significantly better. I’d say be open to that as well if not too high up, but hey, it’s not my $$$!

It's interesting. I had actually planned and booked a trip to Fort Lauderdale 12/27-1/1 a few weeks ago without any awareness of the Orange Bowl.

I've been checking Ticketmaster occasionally. After the announcement and the price spike, lots of tickets came onto the secondary market and prices seemed to drift down a bit.

Currently, it looks like there are at least 2-3,000 tickets available, with asking prices starting around $600. Tickets selling for under $600 appear to be selling at this point. With the large inventory, the possibility that there are lots of tickets that aren't yet for sale online but might be put on the market later, and the need for people who actually want to attend to make travel plans pretty soon, I don't think sellers will be able to hold the line at $600 for much longer. But I also think that any price drop will bring in additional buyers, so there's a floor. Lots of people probably made travel plans and are sitting and watching the ticket situation, like me.

I'm willing to wait. I'm even willing to show up at the stadium and tailgate, buy at the last minute, or go back to my hotel and watch the game on TV if the price is too high for me.
