O'Neill crew - actually not bad today?

I didn't get to watch a lot of the game but it felt like there wasn't a blatantly obvious miss, no-call, make-up call, or other shenanigans from the crew, and overall called a pretty good game. I will say they missed the facemask on Corum but realistically that would have been a gift there anyway--I don't think the facemask grab changed the outcome of the play much, if at all.

Thoughts?

Thought Turner could have been called for PI but we also didn't get one on the next series on Johnson. Mostly thought Michigan did a great job playing clean football. All those hits to the QBs without a late hit or a head hit.

Yeah I agree.  There were no bad calls.  As noted, they missed a facemask on Corum, and the non-PI call on Turner could have gone the other way.  It's hard for me to see holding in the interior, however.

From a monetary standpoint and since OSU shit the bed, the BIG and FOX have a vested interest in an undefeated PSU, MSU - UM game. Just follow the money and place your bets accordingly.

I think O'Neil actually choked on some vomit that he couldn’t overturn the td by Johnson- I’m sure he hated it. So two of our games refereed by O’Neil crew- hopefully that’s it for the year.

They BLATANTLY missed a facemask on Corum and then called Haskins down when he crossed the goal line on the next play.

It ended up not mattering, but against Penn State or Ohio State? I don’t know.

The face mask was blatant to us the TV viewers, but I’m not sure there was an official in place to see it.

I was upset about some of the spots early, but from the mid-2nd quarter on, they seemed competent. Seth was complementary of the female official in the crew. I saw a Wisconsin WR try to sell a pass interference in front of her and she didn’t fall for it.

Eh they were not as atrocious as normal but still almost screwed UM on the one td drive with the missed facemask and missing that Haskins scored already on 3rd down. Also had a spot that was atrociously off on the 1st down run after Wisconsin's muffed punt. When your the O'Neil crew though the bar is so low that anything better than god awful seems like a miracle.

They had an awful spot in the red zone where they didn't give Haskens any forward progress and spotted it where they dragged him back and shafted us out of 3 yards.

The play you referenced was after the Wisky turnover and we had the ball 1st and goal on the 5.  Pretty big difference between 2nd  and 2.5 v. 2nd and 4.

I also wondered about the spot on McCarthy's read option keeper where, it looked like he probably get the 1st down, but was marked short.

I’ll be honest - on the replay reviews I was just waiting for a decision to not go our way. But overall the officiating seemed… good? There were calls that I didn’t agree with, particularly with the Haskins spot, but generally there seemed to be very little chicanery.

The fact that there's no snowflake thread for officiating may be a good sign.

I thought I saw a ton of Wisconsin holding that didn't get called.

But, even if he doesn't do badly in a particular game, that doesn't mean that he isn't bad. Bad is his substance, not just his performance.

I don't think we will have to worry about John O'Neill's crew calling any future games for us this season.

There was one called holding when a Badger OL blatantly tackled Hutchinson that was flagged, which violates the sacrosanct dictate at B1G headquarters to never call holding in favor of Michigan.  In light of that criminal dereliction of duty, I would be surprised if O'Neill is allowed to call our games again.
