Now he's bringing in a bunch of 2-3 stars to play like... I don't even want to know.
September 2nd, 2018 at 8:55 AM ^
Yeah, our 5 star OTs really played like shit.

The most overrated coaching staff in the country. It’s not even close.
We need a head coach that’s not going around proclaiming “who’s got it better than us” when we never win anything of importance. Michigan is doomed to forever medicority as long as this joke of an Oline continues along with the arrogance of this program.

We have absolutely no running game and our QB's get injured each game- kinda hard to win unless you fix those items
September 1st, 2018 at 11:12 PM ^
Clock management was atrocious. No change at LT is baffling. Starting Marshall and Mone vs. Dwumfor and Solomon is weird. Brown fixed most of the problems in the second half, but allowed way too much damage to get away blameless. The 3rd and 18 draw was a backbreaker, though I think some of that was Bush's cramps. All the cramps have we thrilled with the S&C program.
That was not well handled.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:21 PM ^
Defense played better in the 2nd half but Kelly went way conservative knowing that our offense can't do shit.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:38 PM ^
Eh, third quarter he tried to throw plenty and Winovich and Gary met at the QB every play, basically. I think he was afraid of a disaster, because it was probably our most likely way to score.

This is what an 8-figure coaching staff looks like?
September 1st, 2018 at 11:13 PM ^
That wasn't great. Hot take! I didn't mind the loss. Notre Dame was the better team and looked better prepared. At times, Michigan was losing the proverbial, just got to make plays ball. However, as time went by, it became clear that Michigan once again lacked a coherent offensive identity. They don't really do anything well. I know that most of it is on the offensive line, but the tight ends were blanketed, and it was rare to see a receiver making anyone miss.
Overall, the team didn't look all that good. They looked good enough that they will beat all of the lesser opponents on their schedule. However, I don't see how they won't drop one to a lesser team given the lack of offensive line play and coherent identity on offense.
This actually feels like the most overhyped Michigan team since the 2007 bunch. I had high hopes for this team. It doesn't look like they are going to pan out. Go blue and all that.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:16 PM ^
Terrible offensive line. Still no play makers.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:14 PM ^
Brian Kelly went to the Dantonio playbook tonight. Build a comfortable lead and sit on it in the 2nd half knowing Michigan can't score.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:14 PM ^
If you looked at our play calling, you would swear it was 1989. How many times did we see trips formation knowing there is no way in Hell that they were gonna attack down the field. Essentially you were taking two players away from the game and the defense knows it only has to worry about the underneath route. it was pathetic and Harbaugh needs to be gone if he cannot beat MSU and OSU this year.

After an entire off season this is what they came up with? This looks like Mgoblog 3.0. We waited the whole summer and they delivered something worst then before.

Not ready to play in the 1st half. Poorly disciplined, untimely penalties. Get Notre Dame in 3rd and 65 and give up the 1st down.
Poor offensive line play. Poor push from the middle of the defensive line.
Apparently the game lasts until next Tuesday. Absolutely NO sense of urgency in the 4th quarter whatsoever.
All in all, a piss poor performance.

Itauditbill, you absolutely nailed how I’m feeling about UM football these days. I’m to the point now, like the lions, where nothing surprises me. It’s getting easier to distance myself from the disappointment.

Same shit different year. We are going to become Nebraska by the end of this decade. Totally irrelevant.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:46 PM ^
except Nebraska has a coach now that I think may prove to be a better collegiate coach for them than Harbaugh is for UM.

I was going to comment about how this was a low effort joke until I realized that Frost has a NC (no matter how technical it may be) and Harbaugh does not.

By the end of THIS decade? You may want to reevaluate that statement.

We’re irrelevant now. The Beef O’Brady Bowl has our AD on speed dial.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:19 PM ^
Offensive playcalling was terrible. Really bad. Playing not too lose when down 14 for most of the game, time management at the end of the game was awful.
The Brown got worked in the first half by the ND O Coord
There do not appear to be any tactical improvements outside of improved QB play.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:25 PM ^
At least this was better than the South Carolina game where everyone, including the coaches, seemed to give up.

September 1st, 2018 at 11:20 PM ^
Maybe NOW harbaigh will realize he overestiy the OL quality when he got here.....
And maybe he can learn time management.
Only when we went two min offense we moved ball. Wonder if it was because Patterson winged it
Higdon needs to be benched. Blows blocks. He is a very good runner but he cost us that INT .sorry Michigan Man24. It's true .
September 2nd, 2018 at 3:31 AM ^
That wasn’t a two minute offense. It was a 8 minute offense set to a 6 minute template.
At least there were less claps to get Ruiz’ attention. What a stupid system that is
September 1st, 2018 at 11:20 PM ^
I just don't feel like Harbaugh is a good (or even average) gameday coach.
Atrocious clock management, setting downs on fire (running into stacked box on 2nd & 14 from the gun), not having a TE or RB in to block on obvious blitzing downs, play-action pass on the 2 yard line when the FB dive has been a staple of the offense since 2015, etc.
Tonight was an awakening, and I finally started to realize that a lot of Harbaugh's criticism from national pundits and rival fans is true.

Makes you wonder if David Shaw was the key at Stanford and also wonder if Harbaugh is taking something to neutralize a manic behavior. Shel of the guy on the sideline.

.I've wondered the past couple years if coach was on meds, just didn't feel comfortable saying it. The vibe in year one was so different than in years two and three. They say a team takes on the personality of its couch.... But right now the only difference I see from last year is that at least our QB's won't just hand the game over.
September 2nd, 2018 at 11:41 AM ^
A lot of hyper people take a med called MJ- legal in MI no?
September 2nd, 2018 at 10:22 AM ^
I would blame the QB and Center more than JH. He's yelling on the sideline and tell QB to speed up. but Shea is lost. The hurddling apprears to me is the OL group and QB are not prepared before hand. Maybe too much other stuff to worry. But i think this is still on the QB and Center. The center snap the ball very slowly this game. One bright side, Our OL never have a false start in a hostile environment. Yay! that's improvement.
That said, we still have time if not fumbling the ball. Shea's awareness is questionable to me. There is a reason he can't win the starting job in Oxiford. Unfornutately, given the current OL situation, it's very very dangerous to put DMac on the field. I don't want him to be concussion like Peters last year.

September 1st, 2018 at 11:21 PM ^
I don't get the offensive philosophy. You have two NFL level running backs and two NFL level tight ends. You have an offensive line that has shown the ability to run block, but been definitively terrible at pass blocking. You have a full back who can maul people. You have one scholarship receiver with more than two years in the program.
With all of that information, you build an offense around a new qb and don't play to any of your inherent strengths. Makes no sense to me.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:38 PM ^
We don't have 2 NFL level RB's - 2 good college backs though
and we DEFINITELY don't have 2 NFL TE's.
Gentry was a big disappointment tonight and McKeon just isn't very good.
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:22 AM ^
our TE and WR didn't make any tough catch. That's the issue. You can see the ND WRs and MSU WRs. They make play and make tough catch. The receiving corps still have flaws as they have so much talents and it's luxury to have them. Game plan is bad. No way this team is bigten contender with this OC and offensive staff.
September 1st, 2018 at 11:22 PM ^
Michigans offense had 3 total drive in the first half. 3!!!!
September 1st, 2018 at 11:22 PM ^
Awful. The team was completely unprepared.
Defense was not ready. Made mental errors. Committing pentalies that gave up first downs. As they did last year; allowed a running QB to convert third and long consistently for long drives. Put the offense in a huge hole and made the first half a slow grind.
Offense was not ready. Whatever playbook was installed they forgot the hurry-up offense. Considering that Michigan is playing on the road against a top 15 opponent, a hurry-up offense is absolutely necessary. Offensive line. It was atrocious. Particularly pass blocking. I advise any fan to not trust the coaches BS in regards to any improvement.
Special teams was somewhat prepared. Doug Flutie made a comment I strongly agree with. It is important to have a player who has been in the game and at least poses a threat for a fake field goal. DPJ was not coached up on fielding punts and not improved from last year.
Final thought. Defense gave up too much in the first half. Offense had to abandon whatever plan they had. Harbaugh forgot to install hurry-up offense.
Coaching: F
