This is not a surprise in the least.  Highly intelligent, hard worker, overachiever, team player, repeatedly slammed himself into the OL so other teammates could get the tackle and the glory.   Seems like the perfect mentality for a Marine

I see your intelligent comment and raise you one Navy joke:

A sailor in a bar leans over to the guy next to him and asks, "Hey, do you want to hear a Marine joke?"

The guy responds, "Well, before you tell that joke, you should know that I'm 6-foot tall, I weigh 200 pounds, and I'm a Marine. The guy sitting next to me is 6′ 2″, weighs 250 pounds, and he's also a Marine. Now, you still wanna tell me that joke?"

The sailor says, "Nah, I don't want to have to explain it more than twice."

The reason the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines bicker amongst themselves is that they don’t speak the same language. For instance, Take the simple phrase “secure the building”. The Army will post guards around the place. The Navy will turn out the lights and lock the doors. The Marines will kill everybody inside and set up a headquarters. The Air Force will take out a five year lease with an option to buy.

This joke played out in real life during the LA riots when police were teamed up with Marines responding to a domestic dispute and took fire. The cops yelled "cover me" meaning they wanted the Marines to keep their guns trained on the windows and doors. "Cover me" unfortunately meant something different to Marines and they immediately fired 200+ rounds into the house. Fortunately no one was seriously injured.

How do each of the Services "secure" a building?

The Navy locks the door and leaves.

The Army posts a sentry and leaves.

The Marines land on the roof with helicopters, capture and segregate for interrogation everyone inside, and establish a defensive perimeter.

The Air Force signs a three year lease with a two year option to renew.

Cool, but I imagine it's not that hard for a recently graduated D1 athlete to make it through marine training.  He should apply to be a SEAL next.

Of the roughly 30% of candidates that wash out of OCS (% it was a few years ago), most do so for reasons other than being physically fit enough.  Plenty of  PT studs wash out every cycle, you would be surprised at some of the young men and women who don't finish.

It is an accomplishment worth applauding.

You are very ignorant and seemingly arrogant which is a brutal combination. It's clear you have never served anywhere (other than yourself perhaps) and don't appreciate those that do serve. At least you didn't call him a baby killer I guess.

2nd Lt Furbush will have an incredible career ahead of him. Assuming he stays on track to become a Marine Corps Aviator, he will GET PAID to fly incredible aircraft such as the F-35, F/A-18 Hornet, AH-1 Cobra or V-22 Osprey, while traveling the world and leading some of the finest people this country has to offer. I assure you he won't feel like a pawn. Another benefit is he won't have to put up with jerks like you on a daily basis.

Also, having worked in the aerospace/defense industry for several years, I can assure you the number of "rich guys in suits" are very few and far between.

This view is actually humorous because it's so, so dumb. The even funnier part is that those like you that believe this actually think they have a sophisticated worldview.

"hurr hurr, we're working for the man that don't care about us, it's all about making the rich richer, burr durr, take the red pill, garble garble"

If only the United States would disband its military the world would be a peaceful happy place. No countries trying to invade or control others. All living in peaceful harmony. North Korea, China, Russia, Iran, Syria, and others only maintain militaries to protect themselves from the US. They will surely disband their militaries too.

What the hell is wrong with you?

I mean, I have some issues with how much money we spend on the military (especially on shit that doesn't work), but do you understand what the alternative is to US global hegemony?  It's Russian and Chinese global hegemony.

So the choice is between a country founded on principals of freedom and that at least tries to do the right thing (sometimes), or brutal, authoritarian, dictatorships running the show.  But hey, maybe that's what you want.

Christ you're stupid.
