"No desire" to coach again - Urban Meyer
Aww bummer, so sad when a bunch of grown men have to delete all those AI pics of a guy who vaguely resembles Urban's third cousin dressed as the MSU football coach.

this was never ever ever not ever happening, just pure self-delusion from the start.
that said - come on, urb, go to east lansing. i'm seriously begging you.

This will be much more delicious to reflect on when he takes a job with Colorado State in December.
October 16th, 2023 at 4:30 PM ^
Ummm talk about your pre-emptive strike..Maybe he realizes NOBODY would Hire this CREEP
October 16th, 2023 at 5:35 PM ^
You realize Hugh Freeze has an SEC job, right? Not to mention some of the Briles family?
Lots of coaches with way more baggage than Meyer are getting hired. If you're winning games, nobody cares.
October 16th, 2023 at 9:32 PM ^
The baggage does eliminate some jobs. At this point in his career, between the way he left Ohio State and some of the things that came out of Jacksonville he's got enough of a downside that he's not going to be as hot a prospect as he was after he left Florida.
Still, if Urban wants to coach, he won't have trouble finding a job. I was actually kind of surprised he didn't end up at LSU instead of Kelly.

The last person I'd trust on matters regarding Urban Meyer is Urban Meyer.
October 16th, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
That's Urban *eyer
October 16th, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
BREAKING: Per Rico Beard this is merely a negotiating tactic. Urban is shopping for houses in East Lansing.
October 16th, 2023 at 4:44 PM ^
"No desire"... easy to say when no major programs are interested.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
There might be something various institutions can do to address those interests that Meyer has.
In Tuscaloosa...
In College Station...
And, at USC...
We can't forget about East Lansing...
October 16th, 2023 at 7:43 PM ^
Cheerleaders are heavenly. I have always had an appreciation for the sweaters at USC.
October 16th, 2023 at 10:09 PM ^
Oregon - underrated.
October 16th, 2023 at 4:52 PM ^
That means it’s more likely he takes over at Alabama
October 16th, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
They are freaking out at the RCMB right now. Many if not most are sure that Matt Ishbia has made the call and Urbz is coming to EL. The "No desire to coach again....." comment is just a smokescreen.
Dumbasses

Meyer is pretty radioactive still, so I think landing at a school like MSU is a non-starter.
That said, I think we haven't quite seen the last of him as a coach/AD somewhere.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:29 PM ^
If Meyer goes anywhere, it will be to Texas A&M or some other warm place down south.
The Aggies won't give a shit about Meyer's ethical shortcomings, and they can wave as much oil-well money under his nose as any school can. They won't care about having an offense that doesn't translate well to the NFL, either.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:30 PM ^
he’s just holding out until Ishbia opens the vault /s
October 16th, 2023 at 5:53 PM ^
Look at how delusional these people are!!!
October 16th, 2023 at 5:59 PM ^
Tho surely many coaches have attempted it, it's hard to coach at an elite level if you're consistently as hungover as Urban always appears to be on Big Noon
October 16th, 2023 at 6:04 PM ^
Until Notre Dame opens because Marcus Freeman punts on 4th and 2 from the opponent's 31 down 3.
October 16th, 2023 at 6:33 PM ^
There's no way I can be convinced he's not hoping Harbaugh crushes Day so badly he gets fired. I may be the OP but I don't buy for a second he wouldn't coach again. He just doesn't want to at a dumpster fire also-ran program.
October 16th, 2023 at 6:39 PM ^
Aka, the check better be larger than 10M a year
October 16th, 2023 at 7:37 PM ^
No problem. RCMB has spent Ishbia's and all the other "billionaire boosters" money ten times over.
October 16th, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
This guy might be brilliant. Or a moron. 50/50
"The same people who were in denial of Tugger being a fraud and sunk cost phallusy are now latching onto another delusion of Urbz2M$U..."
October 16th, 2023 at 7:45 PM ^
Yes, the significance of the sunk cost phallusy.

He's pulling in $7 million for being on the TeeVee machine a couple times a week, and having Spring and Summers off. It sure isn't worth a 50% pay raise to work 24/7/365 in the college coaching racket where your career depends on the whims of 19 year olds.
October 16th, 2023 at 8:17 PM ^
There was 0.001% chance of him going to MSU.
The looney fans in their base (Red Cedar) were probably the only ones actually believing it would happen. Liepold - no way. Klineman - almost no way. Fleck - very slim chance. Elko - slim chance. Huff - possible.
I think they will land on a coordinator or FCS coach once all the smoke settles. Program is a tire fire inside a dumpster.
October 16th, 2023 at 8:45 PM ^
Thought this part of the article was interesting. While I will believe Meyer will be in East Lansing until they hire someone else, some coaches are getting out and/or expressing frustration due to this.
“It has never been harder I am telling you right now,” Meyer said. “It is part of the reason I have no desire to get back into it. It is really, really hard. Every coach, every player has an agent. Think about that. Remember those days? Maybe a coordinator every once in a while had an agent. There is nothing wrong with agents. They’re great. But when I am the head coach having to deal with a high school player that (says) meet with my agent first. I am going I want to meet with your family because you are talking about recruiting and other stuff.”
October 16th, 2023 at 9:45 PM ^
You believe Urban will coach MSU??? Not a chance in hell.
October 16th, 2023 at 9:21 PM ^
Thought he was looking to retire somewhere in Nebraska. I hear it's a nice place to relax and unwind.
October 16th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
That idea already caym and went
October 16th, 2023 at 10:12 PM ^
Just looking to put a stake in the ground.
October 16th, 2023 at 10:41 PM ^
Urban will take a job when a nice stacked deck job opens up for him.
Miami or A&M would be a good fit
MSU has a bad roster, and a tough upcoming schedule
October 17th, 2023 at 9:34 AM ^
That's another reason I was always skeptical of him going to MSU. He sucked at Jacksonville because in the NFL you don't have the built-in advantages a college coach at Florida or Ohio State has.
He wouldn't have those at MSU either, so surprise surprise, he won't touch it.
October 17th, 2023 at 12:02 AM ^
Something stinks about this but I can’t put my finger on it
October 17th, 2023 at 11:41 AM ^
That's a shocker.
October 17th, 2023 at 8:25 AM ^
Meyer sounds like he's telling the truth there, talking about his family and his health. He has good career numbers, and does he want to step in and spend a few years with average numbers while he's building his program? I don't really know, but it doesn't seem like he's holding out for $$.
My complete amateur outsider take on MSU athletics is that I'd be terrified to go to that place unless it was a major step up. Lateral move wouldn't be worth it unless I was being chased out of my current job or there was a major bump in my lifestyle. There's no consistent leadership and the place is covered in a bunch of gross scandals. I wouldn't want to be associated with that. People constantly talking at me about Michigan when I'm trying to focus on winning the next game. People demanding to see your hands everytime you make a zoom call. Bah.
If you have enough years to stick around, you might be willing to take on the challenge of building a program and making it your own. There's a head coach out there somewhere who could do good things for them, but I don't think it would be someone like Meyer.

Next Sparty coach:
October 17th, 2023 at 5:35 PM ^
He followed that quote with, "That's coaching. Now.....if you're talking about knocking one off while on the phone with a woman who is a consultant on how not to sexually assault women....that could be interesting."
October 18th, 2023 at 9:19 PM ^
Unfortunately there are some reputable reporters out there saying MSU & Urban did in fact meet, and it sounds like there is mutual interest. This will not be good for Michigan.
