this was never ever ever not ever happening, just pure self-delusion from the start.

that said - come on, urb, go to east lansing.  i'm seriously begging you.

The baggage does eliminate some jobs. At this point in his career, between the way he left Ohio State and some of the things that came out of Jacksonville he's got enough of a downside that he's not going to be as hot a prospect as he was after he left Florida.

Still, if Urban wants to coach, he won't have trouble finding a job. I was actually kind of surprised he didn't end up at LSU instead of Kelly.

They are freaking out at the RCMB right now.  Many if not most are sure that Matt Ishbia has made the call and Urbz is coming to EL.  The "No desire to coach again....." comment is just a smokescreen.

Meyer is pretty radioactive still, so I think landing at a school like MSU is a non-starter.

That said, I think we haven't quite seen the last of him as a coach/AD somewhere.

If Meyer goes anywhere, it will be to Texas A&M or some other warm place down south.

The Aggies won't give a shit about Meyer's ethical shortcomings, and they can wave as much oil-well money under his nose as any school can. They won't care about having an offense that doesn't translate well to the NFL, either.

This guy might be brilliant. Or a moron. 50/50

He's pulling in $7 million for being on the TeeVee machine a couple times a week, and having Spring and Summers off. It sure isn't worth a 50% pay raise to work 24/7/365 in the college coaching racket where your career depends on the whims of 19 year olds.

There was 0.001% chance of him going to MSU.

The looney fans in their base (Red Cedar) were probably the only ones actually believing it would happen. Liepold - no way. Klineman - almost no way.  Fleck - very slim chance. Elko - slim chance.  Huff - possible.

I think they will land on a coordinator or FCS coach once all the smoke settles.  Program is a tire fire inside a dumpster.

Thought this part of the article was interesting.  While I will believe Meyer will be in East Lansing until they hire someone else, some coaches are getting out and/or expressing frustration due to this.

“It has never been harder I am telling you right now,” Meyer said. “It is part of the reason I have no desire to get back into it. It is really, really hard. Every coach, every player has an agent. Think about that. Remember those days? Maybe a coordinator every once in a while had an agent. There is nothing wrong with agents. They’re great. But when I am the head coach having to deal with a high school player that (says) meet with my agent first. I am going I want to meet with your family because you are talking about recruiting and other stuff.”

Urban will take a job when a nice stacked deck job opens up for him.

Miami or A&M would be a good fit

MSU has a bad roster, and a tough upcoming schedule

Meyer sounds like he's telling the truth there, talking about his family and his health. He has good career numbers, and does he want to step in and spend a few years with average numbers while he's building his program? I don't really know, but it doesn't seem like he's holding out for $$.

My complete amateur outsider take on MSU athletics is that I'd be terrified to go to that place unless it was a major step up. Lateral move wouldn't be worth it unless I was being chased out of my current job or there was a major bump in my lifestyle. There's no consistent leadership and the place is covered in a bunch of gross scandals. I wouldn't want to be associated with that. People constantly talking at me about Michigan when I'm trying to focus on winning the next game. People demanding to see your hands everytime you make a zoom call. Bah.

If you have enough years to stick around, you might be willing to take on the challenge of building a program and making it your own. There's a head coach out there somewhere who could do good things for them, but I don't think it would be someone like Meyer.

He followed that quote with, "That's coaching. Now.....if you're talking about knocking one off while on the phone with a woman who is a consultant on how not to sexually assault women....that could be interesting."

Unfortunately there are some reputable reporters out there saying MSU & Urban did in fact meet, and it sounds like there is mutual interest. This will not be good for Michigan.
