Nikhai Hill-Green in transfer portal
Michigan Reddit saying the NHG is in the transfer portal has been spotted working out on campus and links to this article. Anyone know if this is true?
I'm only posting this because I thought it was fun when 90% of our players were named Hill or Green.

This got a good chuckle out of me so thank you for that.

Simple google search verifies this is true. The question is does he want to transfer in to fight for LB3 spot?

He already graduated (clears the admissions hurdles), and I think he could have 2 seasons left with his COVID year and a redshirt/medshirt. Good depth piece if he wants to hop back in.

He transferred when we needed him, no? Then left Biffs team for USF. Now transferring again. Maybe I'm in the minority here but do not want. Give the playing time to Hood and Rolder who stayed.

When we needed him? How can anyone outside of the program know that. Our coaches may have told him to transfer out to get playing time.
Not saying that is what happened just pointing out that nobody outside of the program could know one way or the other.
While it's likely OSW doesn't have insider info, the fact that NHG is back on campus would seem to suggest the coaching staff probably didn't advise him to leave.
I would say the opposite - maybe they told him to go prove himself and they would bring him back in as a grad transfer.
Either way, seems that he left on good terms. Yet another lesson in life about not burning bridges.
While I agree that leaving your doors open is a good policy I find it hard to believe that this coaching staff would tell a player to go get good somewhere else and maybe we'll bring you back.

I don't think he ever went to USF, or anywhere other than UM & Charlotte. He committed to UCF in this current portal cycle, but then backed out and showed up in Ann Arbor.
If he has two more years, we should have plenty of rotation mins to hand out. Barham (and possibly Hausmann) will be gone.

I'd probably want to understand the back story of the transfers before I reach that conclusion. There may be acceptable circumstances to welcome him back. There may be circumstances that scream "hell no". We don't know key parts of the narrative. As I've aged, I've given up getting my exercise by jumping to conclusions.

If Nikhai Hill-Green comes back, it will be lesson for others that it is not greener on the other side of the hill.
I detest that 'grass is greener' saying... As I say it, the grass is only a different shade of green.
A greener shade
Greener shade of kale (whiter shade of pale)
Fair enough, but let's hope it doesn't make Hood leave, who had every reason to leave the past 3 years.

We have got to get over this mindset. He did what was best for him at the time and had no hard feelings. He was injured for an entire year and the team brought in player to sure up the position. That’s what they would be doing now as well since Holder has missed a lot of time in spring. The best players will play, and staying is no guarantee of playing time. He has time in this system and was a good player for us when he was available. It’s a win win if it works out.
Dont really agree with your first point at all since I think he was coming off injury at the time but I do think current players or captains (are any around now?) should be consulted before deciding to let him back. Obv can ask Biff why he left but likely personal reasons. In my mind he would be a depth piece at this point of his career / have a shot to compete.
I never really thought he was as good as other people said he was. I thought he was a big part of our issues vs Nebraska, MSU, and Georgia in 2021. I am fine with him coming here but he is probably a depth piece.

word on the street is he could be returning. nice depth piece if nothing else

If he changes his final surname; green doesn't fit the program.
Maybe Hill-St.-Blue? Final S optional.

Let's be careful out there.
I'm curious how many of the youngsters here have no idea what that means

This info is at least a week old, but good to know

I wonder if he's already thinking about life beyond football (one that wouldn't include the NFL). Just a thought. Or, maybe just a better NIL deal.
Don't think a 4th lb on our depth chart would be getting any NIL money to come here. He went to Charlotte to get playing time and if he wants NIL money then he needs a lot smaller football program. Indiana would be a school that would come to mind unless non power 4 schools can pay some NIL.

Too lazy to do my own research, but an interesting question is how many other examples are there of a player portaling back to his original team? Seems like it would be pretty rare.

The boomerang transfer is rare overall but a little more common in hoops. This article, though a few years old now, mentions 13 "notable" players in 2022 that were playing at a previous school in -- the implication being that this is just a sampling of the overall figure.
Kadyn Proctor from Alabama to Iowa to Alabama this offseason would be an example
Wonder if Iowa has their complete NIL budget returned to them

Dumb question, but is the transfer portal something we can actually check?
I'm guessing there's privacy/legal concerns, so the answer is "No" for anyone not affiliated with a university, but its the NCAA, so who knows
Seth always loved him. I thought he was a good blitzer (a tier below Barrett level) and a pretty good thumper when filling the gap and getting into his run fit. He did struggle at times ID-ing things. He was the culprit on a couple of those long KW-III runs vs MSU in 2021. I wouldn't hold the Georgia game against him as he had to come in because Colson was lost beyond identification that game.
If the players and coaches want him back, I think they're earned that benefit of the doubt. Having him, Rolder, and Hood as your 3 backup LBs is a pretty good position to be in. Especially with the chance that both starters could be gone after this season.
This is it exactly. If players and coaches want him, I believe he's earned it and from all rumors he was a solid and commit guy who worked out and was additive in the locker room.
Seems like mentally he just couldn't put together the complexity of playing LB while playing hard and fast. If he had to blitzed or just "do something" and not overthink, he made plays, but as you noted he often was lost when things got more complex.
