Nico Collins Sitting Out, Milton Starting QB, McCaffrey Looking at Options Per Sports Illustrated

Per Michael Spath at SI (consider the source), Nico Collins will be sitting out to prepare for the NFL while Joe Milton has indeed won the QB battle. The surprise is that he is saying McNamara is the backup QB as McCfaffrey is looking at transfer options.

If true, I'm really excited for Milton but the WR are little thin now. He'll have Bell, Jackson, Sainristill, and Johnson to throw to. I was really hoping we could have seen Nico in his #1 jersey so I hope that part isn't true.

But even if it is, I'm just glad Michigan football is back.

In Nico's case, if there was no season, it would probably look better that he was "committed" to the team before heading to the NFL. Or maybe he just doesn't see the safety measures he wants in order to ensure he gets that NFL check. I don't blame him.

In Dylan's case, he probably had to wait until an actual season to confirm that he's been dropped to #2. He now has that confirmation.

I'd chill on this and wait for another source.  If DM sticks around this season he is likely still first in if Milton goes down with injury, and he can probably grad transfer after this year without sitting anyways.  He may have more to gain by sticking around.

With Nico, again I'd wait for something from him.  I'm sure whether he plays or not he's considered opting out, but I'd wait for a more reliable source.

Agreed.  I just don't see the benefit of Nico sitting out unless hes truly worried about the virus side of things.  Its not like hes going to be a top 10 pick as of right now.  Seems like playing and being "the guy" would give him a shot to really boost his draft stock.

He has the "pedigree" of a successful football player. So he'd definitely get the benefit of the doubt, based off his family legacy.

Though I do think in the little bit we saw of him, he seemed to make good decisions and I was excited to see him play more, but I also never thought he was some overpowering beast.

I never understood the McCaffrey hype. Yes, he "looks" the part in uniform, but his actual play never lived up to anything special.

I think this a bit of a leap to a conclusion at this point.  Spath could easily be wrong and McCaffrey could easily have two full-ish seasons of playing QB at Michigan where we can judge him then.

The Milton story has been reported for a while. Don't see why Nico would opt out now, unless he thought we would not return and liked the work he was able to get with the team in prep for the draft.

I know a lot of people here were pushing for the season to happen but does anyone else think that Michigan may have been better off if we sat this one out. Between graduation/Covid opt-outs/Transfer Michigan lost two of our best three pass rushers, three out of four in the defensive backfield and that's the experienced side of the ball.

On offense we have to replace the ENTIRE offensive line, TE, QB and both the starting wideouts (in fact the only real offensive starter we return is at RB) and they lost the spring and fall to get any chance to jell.

This could get really really ugly. Hope I'm wrong but........yeesh.
