I've read Nick for many years now. When he first started I thought he was young and that his writing would gradually improve. It hasn't. He writes in a very casual way, which isn't so bad, except that it is peppered with many mixed metaphors and non-sensical phrasing. He does not seem to be interested in improving, which is why I called it his 'style.'

A few quick examples:

"Black is so much more smooth than I thought he'd be after watching his high school highlight tape." Awkward. Does he mean, "Black is much smoother than I thought he would be..."

"He has a unique ability to make difficult receptions look relatively easy." Not quite. Something 'unique' can't be replicated. Yet we've seen other receivers do this. Perhaps he means 'rare.'

"The staff sees a football player in there and sees a guy who, with more polish, can be a possible starter at tackle." Awkward. What about, "The staff sees a football playing in there who, with more polish, could be a possible starter at tackle."

I certainly agree that some of the phrasing you identify is awkward.

One could make an argument that the conversational style he uses, which eschews concern for these sorts of details, is not necessarily inappropriate for sports commentary. I'm not sure I would though. It would be wonderful if all writing was done in the precise way you seem to be idealizing. Unfortunately, such imprecision is hardly all Baugardner's own; on the contrary, it is ubiquitous.

good news and quotes about Runyan.  He got a booboo during the spring game so we now it was nothing major.

Great to hear he is beginning to stand out at the RT spot.  This could be the best OL than since...2012?
