Did you miss “the noodle” or “two cokes for tix” or every season ticket holder survey which is a very thinly veiled attempt to leverage people into agreeing advertising is ok (to avoid sale of first born child, or $1000/seat or some equally ridiculous Armageddon alternative they posit)?

I wonder if the new boards will have the vital game statistics (score, clock, down & distance, that kind of thing) permanently showing.  From the renderings it sort of looks that way.  One of my pet peeves about the existing system, they'll have that information missing for stretches when they're showing replays or promotions or whatever.

Am I the only one who sees nothing that needs improving about the current scoreboards? Maybe they'll be great, but I have not once thought this was something that needed an upgrade.

I would rather see the open space between the scoreboards and press booths filled with new seating, and bring the capacity to 160,000, or more.

Sounds good on paper, but the era of mega capacity expansions in sports is mostly over for now.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we only see more fan comfort/experience-oriented renovations to Michigan Stadium and others from here on out.

There is not, and probably never was demand for 160,000 seats in Michigan Stadium. As it is, there is barely enough infrastructure to support 110,000, when one factors in parking and traffic and sidewalks, not to mention the concourses. Will never happen, should never happen.

But it's not just about physical parking spaces. It's also about the roadways to get people in and out of Ann Arbor itself. 110k strains what exists now. It isn't reasonable or safe for Michigan Stadium to expand any larger than it is today, unless that plan is to enlarging the physical seating space while making seats and rows larger at the same time, keeping the capacity more or less the same (or slightly less!).

Also, what need would Pioneer have for a huge parking deck the other 357 days of the year?

That would be sweet but I don’t think getting bigger is the thing to do anymore. More and more people realize the experience overall is honestly better at home. It’s fun to go out to games as an event but watching at home is better. It’s cheaper, more convenient, and honestly much easier to see what’s going on. Seeing it in person is cool and different, but I can’t get the tv view from a seat.

I'd like the whole stadium to get closed in more to lock in the sound.  Not sure how to do that with a bowl stadium without making it look ugly, but I'm no architect.

Too small. I like big long scoreboards.  Should have them curve around the entire stadium and over the top to form a giant 4k retractable dome video screen with artificial weather machines.

Is “3rd Downs” really a stat we keep on our scoreboard? As in, without any reference to conversion rate or anything else—just total number of third downs?

I am against any proposed scoreboard which does not provide a section displaying the scores of all BIG TEN and top 20 games constantly.  At present, the display of any scores is entirely composed of the scores of BIG TEN games at halftime and one score of the Slippery Rock game at the time of the display.  In other words, all of the attendees at every Michigan home game.are effectively subject to a score blackout of all other games about which Michigan fans have an interest.  The  Slippery Rock score, a 6-decade joke, only makes it worse (as does the MSU scoreboard which periodically throughout a game shows other relevant scores).

In the Rich Rod era, I could understand the blackout--U of M wasn't sufficiently competetive to justify showing other scores.  But, on the heels of a Big Ten championship and appearance in the CFP, a full, periodically updated set of scores is entirely justifiable.

lol at people suggesting it should wrap around the top of the stadium.

that would not only be WAAAY too big, it would be hideous.

Expand the towers to the corners and maybe I can see it.

2011 details:

MICHIGAN STADIUM TS Sports will install new state-of-the-art LED screens in both end zones of Michigan Stadium, which will be 40 percent larger than the previous system. The new video screens will be 47 feet high and 85 feet wide and will be complete in August, prior to the 2011 football season.

The overall size of the structures will be 108 feet wide by 62 feet high, which includes the scoreboard and enclosure.

And down south in 2012 from the O-Zone:

The original scoreboard display after the 2002 renovation measured 30 feet by 90 feet. In 2012, that display was replaced by a new high definition screen measuring 40 feet by 120 feet.

sitting there Saturday, though, the scoreboard video screen seems smaller than Michigan’s in both dimensions. And there is only one.

I'm happy with anything that improves the fan experience short of those stupid flashing lights after TD's like Alabama, Tennessee, USC and several others have gone too.

Want to really improve the fan experience cut the piped in music 50%, let the band play and allow the visiting teams to bring their band.

Our scoreboards are actually huge as is, its just they're further back than any other stadium in college football because of the size of the bowl.  The biggest problem with the video boards is the zoomed in frames that UM chooses to show for replays.

At first glance, I thought that they were putting a screen over top of the block M so that fans going to restrooms and concession wouldn't miss the action. Although I do think that having something like that would be cool, I would hate to cover up the block M.
