New MGoPodcast guests?

Submitted by Gulogulo37 on

Would you like to see more guests on the MGoPodcasts? If so, who would you like to have on? Any sports writers? Bloggers? Former players or coaches? HARBAUGH???

I vote for Stewart Mandel. He's the only writer I seek out for college football. He doesn't have a lot of stupid hot takes and has a very good feel for the enterprise of college football as a whole. I read his mailbag and listen to his new podcast with Bruce Feldman, who I can't really recall reading before but is also good. I've gone over to Fox Sports' site more than SI now because Mandel moved over and SI has Rosenberg. Mandel also got some more points from me after their podcast last week in which he railed against the trend of new ADs who think college football programs should be run like corporations (they had a Texas guy on talking about their AD and DB was also brought up). He also couldn't understand the outrage over Michigan's summer camps.

Also, I don't read 11W, but Brian seems to know Ramzy fairly well. Would be fun to hear them on a podcast together before The Game.

I'm certainly not saying I want JamieMac removed from the football season. Guests could be on for short periods during the season or just an additional podcast, or for longer periods that would help us get through the offseason. Brian has had Gasaway on once in a while for basketball podcasts. I always listen to the podcasts and enjoy them, but during football season they do generally tend to repeat what was said in Brian's game posts but with some extra commentary from Ace.

I like the idea of having some of the more popular B1G blog owners on with Brian ... that could make for some interesting listening.

Michigan coaching staff would be the best though...all the position coaches.

I certainly won't protest more content, but I actually wouldn't be all that interested in hearing from current coaches, except Harbaugh of course. Coachspeak gets pretty boring. I usually just quickly skim pressers during football season. And I think Brian would have to be too serious to do a podcast like that. I mentioned the Audible podcast with Mandel and Feldman and the stuff I have skipped over there is interviews with current coaches. Retired/former coaches do tend to let loose a bit though.

However, I do like the idea of other B1G bloggers. Would be cool to get a guy from BHGP or Sippin on Purple or whatever that NW blog is that Brian sometimes talks about. And Ramzy as I mentioned before. Especially if we play that blogger's team in the coming week. Would be useful as a preview.

The idea of other bloggers from other conference sites is interesting to me as well  - I know that during the season they will occasionally guest interview on other sites (and in an exchange, those bloggers will be interviewd here as well), but some of them, at least by their Twitter and blogging styles seem like they would make for a rather entertaining chat.

Spencer Hall and or Ryan Nanni with them and Ace on the Mgopodcast would be hours of hilarity but also interesting takes on Michigan and the Biiiiiggggg Teeehhhnnn!!!

I like pairing up personalities that work well together so I propose:

Magnus & His Dudeness

Wolverine Devotee & TIMMAY

Brandon & Brian

Section1 & anyone who didn't like RR

After that, Brian will decide to never do a podcast again.

As for Stewie, I'd like to have him on once. Though it would honestly lower the podcast's quality, it would also demonstrate why Brian, and the guys running team-specific blogs in general, can be so much better.

If I remember correctly he actually was a previous guest a long time ago. Back when Tim was around, Brian and Tim would try and get rotating bloggers from oppoisition schools to guest in the preview segments; I believe Matt Hinton filled in admirably for a mid-major without bloggers.

roundtable format of the Thursday show on WTKA and Brian was re-running those near hout-long podcasts on the blog. They sort of do that now with JamieMac, but may be if he if invited another guy to talk about college football stuff that would be fine. Let's remember, that it's Brian's observations and analysis which drives the WTKA and his own podcasts. If he's hosting and interviewing, rather than just participating as a co-host, you sort of lose what's best about those shows.
