Nebraska Fr LB Ernest Haussmann transfers to UM
December 15th, 2022 at 12:22 PM ^
Never heard of the dude, but his game-by-game stats suggest a lot of potential.
Welcome, young dude!

AK47 will be happy. I think he has been hammering at undergrad transfers for a while. Santa effect?
December 15th, 2022 at 1:20 PM ^
This fits the type of transfer that is easier for Michigan: first-year or graduate. Hausmann is a freshman so the transfer of credits is not as big an issue.
December 15th, 2022 at 1:27 PM ^
he is a 4-star rated recruit as a transfer, higher than when he was a recruit

December 15th, 2022 at 3:10 PM ^
I’d rank him high simply based on the fact that he has P5 starting experience and you basically get to redshirt him and then get 3 more years out of him. That’s gotta make him a really intriguing prospect on its own.
December 15th, 2022 at 7:10 PM ^
I’d be surprised if he’s redshirted next year. He might not be a starter, but he’ll be a regular in the rotation. I can’t imagine that he’d transfer somewhere where he wouldn’t play
December 15th, 2022 at 7:46 PM ^
Im not saying he will be, im just saying that having that flexibility would make him a highly sought after guy on its own. He’s essentially a transfer that has the eligibility of a recruit. A recruit that has seen the field a ton at the P5 level. That’s valuable to a lot of teams, even if he’s not expected to see the field in a large capacity right away.
Michigan uses 2 linebackers at a time and assuming Barrett returns, we return both starters. NHG returns from injury and was a projected starter entering the year. Which in all likelihood puts this kid in a battle with Rolder for the 4th linebacker spot. Now I don’t know how many snaps they would plan on getting the 5th string linebacker, but it would seem like they could finagle their way into keeping it within the 4 game if they wanted to.

Had a good game against us in November
December 15th, 2022 at 12:23 PM ^
I don't know much about him but found this little intro to the player
December 15th, 2022 at 12:37 PM ^
The true freshman linebacker appeared in all 12 games this season for the Huskers. He racked up 54 total tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. He started in six of the Huskers' 12 games this season, including starts in the final four games of the season, and he played in 474 out of a possible 933 snaps for the Nebraska defense. That includes playing 139 out of 145 snaps across the final two games as he saw his stock soar during the second half of the season.

I was Hoping for Decoldest Crawford just to hear Gus Johnson freak out saying his name
December 15th, 2022 at 12:59 PM ^
Decoldest Crawford should not have entered the portal. He suffered a major injury to his right knee during the final scrimmage of fall camp. His freshman year development and ability to contribute early was wiped away as a result of the injury. If some team doesn't take a chance on his recovery from the major knee injury, he will be left out in the cold.
December 15th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
*de cold
December 15th, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
he actually pulled back and is no longer in the portal.
December 15th, 2022 at 7:11 PM ^
Imagine what he could do to that OSU offense on name alone!
December 15th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
Based only on his name, I assumed he had fled Germany in 1945 and settled quietly in a small Argentinian farming village, living anonymously until his mysterious death in the late 1970s, which just happened to coincide with a visit from an Israeli "tourist"...
December 15th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
I always find it odd that people just post things without any writeup or opinion. Is it just to be first? Anyway, thanks for the info.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
title seems pretty self-explanatory... and gave us a link... and most times you get crucified on this blog for opinions... dont know what else you wanted from him....?
December 15th, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
i don’t twitter and would rather have a brief explanation in the OP instead of just forcing me to click a tweet.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
All the explanatory information was in the post, but don't worry. I've got your back. You can learn more at this link that isn't Twitter.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:58 PM ^
Unless you just have some sort of religious objection to Twitter, you dont need a Twitter account to just click on a link and read it.
December 15th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
At least he didn't say, "Title says it all". Whoa. Hey.
December 15th, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
Let's be honest. If we're on this board, we have the extra half second to trouble ourselves with making an extra click. As excruciating as it may be for us (you)
December 15th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Eh, I hear you. In this case I think the info is that he committed (with a link to the source).
I don't fault someone for not telling me who he is...I mean, I've got Google so I just Googled him and looked for myself.
Also, I'd never put opinion in an OP. I intentionally don't. I post, wait an hour, then post my opinion in the body with everyone else.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
He posted a piece of news. The comment section can be used for expressing opinions on said news.
At least he created a hyperlink, which is more than you can say for 99% of posts
December 15th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
He has three years of eligibility remaining after playing one season with the Cornhuskers.
Hausmann finished his freshman season with 54 tackles, 2 stops for loss, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery in 10 games and 476 defensive snaps (12th-most on the team).
December 15th, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
Sorry mgoblog doesnt pay free lance journalists very well.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Alex Cyan'd him...do not want!
Just kidding. Seems like a good pickup
December 15th, 2022 at 12:57 PM ^
A true freshman LB has to be almost an automatic cyan. Experience matters so much at that position.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Interesting. Especially with NHG back next year.
Nevertheless, welcome Ernest!
...could this mean Mullings to RB as the full-time '23 power RB (versus a transfer for this role) confirmed?
December 15th, 2022 at 12:32 PM ^
Doubtful. I still think we take a tranfer RB. Remember, we lost out of Raylen Wilson who was a top LB commit, and probably are limited on LB options for this 2023 recruiting class. We already got a top LB commit for 24, so we will probably take a few in 24.
December 15th, 2022 at 1:07 PM ^
The next Haskins.
December 15th, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
I think means Barrett probably isn't coming back for a 6th year. Could also means Mullings to RB full time as well. NHG, Colston, Rolder returning....that's not a lot of known depth there. Young promising transfer LB probably a good idea
December 15th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
Do they now have to sit a year ?
December 15th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
your name fits you well
December 15th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
lol was thinking the same think, "username checks out."
December 15th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
Hard to believe this is a serious question. No, he will be able to play next season.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:43 PM ^
rough crowd today....! I thought the covid thing was over and wasn't immediate eligibility, unless a grad transfer...
December 15th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
That's ok, you are used to the old school policy.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:54 PM ^
How have you avoided all the discourse and discussion about the transfer portal over the last 2 years? Do we also need to give a primer on what NIL is?
December 15th, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
Is MGoBlog never a rough crowd? I've learned to appreciate it, but posting here is always a tough row to hoe.
Or is it a road to hoe? Or maybe a row with a ho?
Discuss....

"This term for a long handled gardening tool can also mean an immoral pleasure seeker. Ken?"
"What's a hoe?"
"No. ... whoa, whoa, whoa ... they teach you that in school in Utah, huh? Al?"
"What is a rake?"
"A rake is right!"

MMBones,
It does seem like somewhere in the last 5 years this place lightened up on the grammar policing. Good and bad though as I learned a lot about language from those arguments. I think it was on this message board that I learned about “begs the question” among other useful things.
December 15th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
The transfer rule was changed to eliminate the special football/MBB exception to the "one-time free transfer" rule that applied to all other sports. Players can transfer once with no need to sit for a year. That's not Covid-related.
December 15th, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
That's all true and the most prominent person who publicly pushed for the rule change - Jim Harbaugh.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
Ernest Hausman* “He had a big game at No. 3 Michigan, finishing with 10 tackles, including a three-yard sack for his first career sack. He topped that effort with a career-high 12 tackles the next week against Wisconsin. Hausmann ended the year with six solo tackles at Iowa with a fumble recovery that set up a Husker field goal.“ from his bio.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
According to his stat sheet he recorded a sack against us. That alone is impressive
December 15th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
A quick glance at The Google makes it look as though this is a great pick-up.
Nebraska was not great this year but he got quite a bit of PT and racked up quite a few tackles.
LB is one of the positions that definitely needs a bit more depth.
