What I can't figure out is if Maizen will be sad, happy, angry, or confused with the transition from Michigan football to basketball.

Point is - when you're sad something is ending, at least that means you're enjoying its existence. That's the way it should be.

where we eat our own.  The hivemind has decided at this time that bagging Maizen is the most sensible and appropriate thing to do at this time.

It'll blow over in a few weeks.  After which it will be an annoying running joke, which no one thinks is funny, but will continue to receive upvotes (a la Oakland still in play).

Tired of how all our rivals manage to keep their best players through extra years whereas all of ours bounce to the pros early.  Both in football and bball.  Fuck JT Barrett.  Fuck Izzo for bullshitting players to stay for his own gains at the expense of their wallets.

A few more games like that and Barrett will got a shot at the NFL.  His numbers actually got held back by the OSU receivers dropping passes in the 1st half.

Of course, I hope he comes back to earth and we crush their offense later this month!!!!

Away a few nice throws and Psu wins. 33-38 in one game does not mean he is a good qb. I saw potential in a few nice throws. All completions are not impressive or "nice throws". Stop him from running and he is worthless as a qb.

>Nothing new though, can't understand why any qb wants to go to Osu.

This is about as worthwhile as not understanding why a recruit doesn't choose michigan for the academics.

I see it all the time, "why would anyone want to play QB for Urban?"

The only reason it'd be bad to play for Urban Meyer is if he actually decreased a QBs chances of success.  Which is completely the opposite.  Tim Tebow was always going to be a terrible pro QB.  The fact that he thrived in Urban's system just hid that fact and got him drafted as high as he possibly could before teams realized he was terrible.  If he had been trying to play in a pro-system in college, he would have been sitting the bench with the Shane Morris' of the world or moved to TE.

If your argument is that he could have had a longer career in the NFL if he had been converted to TE in college, then eh, it's possible, but also still really unlikely.  Having a long NFL career (beyond your first contract) is really, really hard to do.

So who wouldn't want to play in a system that makes them look better than they are and gets them a contract when they otherwise would not have gotten one?  And if you are actually good (Alex Smith), you're still likely to work out in the NFL.  You're probably not going to complain that you got drafted first overall when you should have been a second rounder.

Everybody knew that Tebow had issues as a QB.  There wasn't a single team that thought about drafting him without also thinking about how best to 'fix' his throwing mechanics.  His release took all day!  And he couldn't really read defenses, either.  What teams liked was his play-making ability - he won, was athletically gifted, and he got the job done however he needed to.  Alas, the NFL couldn't 'fix' him...

they knew he sucked but hey "he won".  And bingo, that's why people would want to play QB for Urban Meyer.  If you win and you put up big numbers despite not being a good pro prospect, you'll get some sucker team to think they can turn you into a functional QB.

Tebow was drafted in the first round!  That is not where you draft a guy with the issues that he had that might work out with moderate probability.  That is way too high and Tebow can laugh all the way to the bank, thanking Urban Meyer the whole way.  I do think NFL teams are getting smarter about this when it comes to drafting QBs though.

I mean, just in recent years Jourdan Lewis returned, Mo Wagner (though losing DJ sucks), and Taylor Lewan all stand out as M players who could have turned pro early but didn't. Even Burke came back for a sophomore season even though he could easily have been one & done.

Taylor Lewan...Jake Long...Trey Burke...Mitch McGary...we've had our share of players in bball and football that could have had high draft positions come back to play another season. Those programs don't have more or less of them.

I'm happy get a ton of pros in both programs so I enjoy it while they're here.

JT Barrett would stick around for 20 years if he could; he's not a threat ever to get drafted early. And OSU has lost a ton of players in football; I won't get on them.

The continued belief that Tom Izzo is good for a guy's pro career, though, amazes me.

Where's Louisville?

HAA!!  I slay me!

EDIT:  Well, crap.  They're #16 - I should have looked at the poll, first.  Glanced at the highlights list in the OP, and hoped/wished/expected them to have dropped out entirely.

I would say that this is a sign of how much the writers still think of Louisville. If you can be what they've been for so long, go through a scandal which costs the program its head coach (rightfully so, of course), and still be in the AP Top 25 at the beginning of the preseason, it's a weird way of saying "we still like you". What will be interesting to see is how that team responds to everything that has happened to their program.

interestingly, kenpom has them 18th.  I know they return most of their players but they seemed like a team that got most of what they could out of their players and didn't have much more upside.  Not sure if they brought in freshmen or what, but a jump from 38th to 18th does seem optimistic.

I honestly can't understand why we're so lowly rated. I understand, obviously, that we lost Walton, Wilson, and Irvin, but what we're returning and adding seems like plenty to justify a top 25 ranking. Now have three experienced returning players in MAAR, Duncan, and Wagner, the last of which will be drafted. We then add two older players in Simmons and Matthews, plus a solid freshmen class and another year for Davis/Teske.

In the end, our preseason ranking means even less than it does in football, but still just puzzling.

and like you said, we lost our three best players (or 3 of top 4) so that's a lot to replace and we're counting on two transfers for that.  Lot of question marks for us.  Beilein had the benefit of the doubt from voters in 2015 and 2016 when we were ranked preseason despite losing a lot of guys and we ended up being way overrated those years so last year apparently didn't get him the benefit of the doubt back and I can't fault them too much.
