Scottie for the W, Xander with the 54 hole lead and a 74 on Sunday to drop him out of the top 3, Brooks Koepka another runner-up finish, Jason Day with the worst outfit you've ever seen on Friday.  Lock it in!

I don't mean to be a downer,…

I don't mean to be a downer, I do think Juwan has the "stuff" to be a good coach but he hasn't stayed out of his own way.  His offensive acumen is excellent, and it shows in the offensive sets that we ran in his first few years.  Particularly, his variations of the traditional "Horns" sets are a big reason why Dickinson became such a beast here both as a scorer and a passer.

The problem we're seeing is the personnel doesn't fit the offensive structure.  Horns works when you have the threat of shooters and slashers.  When we had Livers, Franz, and Eli they provided the threat of both.  On the current team, we don't have many (any?) speedy rim attackers, and on top of that many of those guys are okay-at-best shooters outside of Nimari.  Once a team figures out how to handle us defensively, we revert to isolation post-ups and rim-attacks that are simply low-efficiency ways to score.

Defensively Juwan needs to just give up the keys and hire a DC, similar to Beilein.  Simple as that.

If he could give up Defensive coaching and restructure his personnel decisions I really think he could succeed.  But it's been 5 years, and he hasn't shown any signs of doing anything remotely close to this.

In my opinion, if our only…

In my opinion, if our only defenses for keeping a coach is his press conference answers then the writing is on the wall.  There are 0 other tangible defenses.

Results: worse every year he gets away from Beilein's players, culminating this year in the worst Michigan basketball team of my lifetime (I was born in '96).

Recruiting/Team-Building: Downhill slide since the Diabate/Houstan class which was also a flop because the team didn't fit together.  We had 2 NBA players, an All-American, and Eli Brooks on that team and the best he could do with it was an 11-seed.  Has apparently no desire to have guards on his teams.

In-Game Coaching: Defense has plummeted to non-existent, the offense clicks early in games but there are no apparent halftime adjustments, and he is on track for being one of the worst late-game coaches college basketball has ever seen.

Behavior: Says the right things in press conferences, never seems to do the right things anywhere else.  Has slapped a coach, has pissed off a long-tenured and well-respected S&C coach,  and pushes his "chicago born and raised" mantra as an excuse for his temperamental behavior even though he's a grown-ass man.

Sorry, he has to go.

I appreciate your attempt to…

I appreciate your attempt to rip my argument apart into bite-sized chunks for me, but I'm still not so sure why you're dead set on dying on this hill for Juwan.  I'm not saying he needs to be let go because of on-court performance.  I'm not saying he needs to be let go because of his antics.  But when you combine the two a strong case can be made that he's just simply not the guy.

"Hot under the collar" is greatly underselling Juwan's antics.  Harbaugh '08-'16 was hot under the collar, Fran McCaffery and Tom Izzo are hot under the collar.  They don't slap other coaches, or charge other benches during a game.  It's not each individual event that tells me it's time for Michigan to move on, it's the culmination, combined with the fact that his teams are getting worse every year (before you say this is my "feeling", there's data to support this, check KenPom et. al), and the roster is an absolute mess, despite two straight years of evidence that this type of roster construction does not work.

Also, coaches in fact can have a massive impact on their players' behavior.  It's one thing to be off-putting.  Mo Wagner was off-putting to many people, but he was still a sportsman as evidenced by his behavior after the JP buzzer-beater, and he definitely wasn't doing shit like pretending to drop his dick on the floor after making a 3 when his team is down double digits.

I'm sure this word salad from me isn't going to change your opinion, but you're comparing apples to oranges with the Beilein/Harbaugh/Bakich comps.  Juwan has behavioral AND basketball issues that haven't been addressed.  None of those guys had the same combination.

This is a good writeup, and…

This is a good writeup, and normally I'd agree with this sentiment as I frequently think that coaches get the raw end of the deal more often than not, however this is grossly overlooking the past issues Juwan has had.  Storming out onto the court during a live play at Michigan State, slapping a Wisconsin coach, allowing players like Hunter Dickinson to be on-court (and occasionally off-court) douchebags despite almost never backing up their words and actions.

Jim, Beilein, and Bakich never had these types of issues where it seems like the coach is not fit for the role, they were always the adult in the room and it just seems like Juwan isn't that.

My honest assessment is that…

My honest assessment is that when Michigan is at the top of this chart it's a Very Good Metric and when they're not it's for Nerds who Don't Know Ball.

To be fair, we looked this…

To be fair, we looked this good against approximately 0 of our non-con "cupcakes" last year.  Cupcakes in quotes because we almost lost to half of them and did lose to one of the worst ones we faced.

Think I'll trust the coaches…

Think I'll trust the coaches who have coached the team to back-to-back Joe Moores instead

Strangled his girlfriend…

Strangled his girlfriend after she liked another man’s Instagram picture, kicked through a door and cocked a handgun to threaten her in a different exchange. Should be noted both were arrested so this was a two-sided affair, but still awful nonetheless.

Probably the most "fun"…

Probably the most "fun" course we've seen in golf since Chambers Bay, and that one was ruined a bit because the USGA didn't know how to handle the greens.  People are gonna bitch because the winning score won't be around par, but you're gonna see some shots played that you never see anywhere else.  Also the type of course where the cream should rise to the top due to the mental and ball-striking commands (as I type this the top 4 are Rickie, Xan, Scottie, Bryson. A lot of pedigree there).

Defense was super young,…

Defense was super young, played much better at the end of the year, now a year older with veteran additions, is it that hard to be at least a little excited? And if you honestly think Montgomery/Gibbs isn’t an upgrade over Jamaal/oft-injured-Swift then you’re in a irrecoverable part of BPONE.

"Dead to rights" is a wild…

"Dead to rights" is a wild way to rephrase "1v1 with a shit ton of open space"

Campbell finished 1st out of…

Campbell finished 1st out of all LBs in his athleticism score at the combine, so your first take doesn't make much sense, there was only one category that he was merely "good" in instead of "great" and that was his 40 time.  Should note that his 40 time was still above average, and his 10 and 20 yard splits were both excellent.

The thing that has to be…

The thing that has to be taken into account though is that the Lions are drafting to win right now, not drafting to build.  Gibbs adds a passing element that they haven't had because Swift is always hurt and isn't an elite route runner.  Also, his addition allows for the trade of Swift for which they should at worst get another draft pick or two.

Holmes gets the benefit of…

Holmes gets the benefit of the doubt until it's proven that he messed up.  Gibbs is electric and Campbell has a very high floor.  All talk about them being available later on is hypothetical, and if Lions really wanted these two guys then there's no point in waiting, especially since they have 4 more picks before the draft even hits pick 90.

I would be shocked if they…

I would be shocked if they don't select a single DB.  Two RBs for a team that has a youngish thunder-lightning duo probably isn't gonna happen.  Bijan is an insane talent but I think their depth needs in the secondary will trump the offensive talent positions until they feel they have what they need.

If we stick to our Michigan…

If we stick to our Michigan fandom the answer to underrated will always be MAAR for basketball, kid was an absolute winner and was a silent assassin, yet he never gets the praise he deserves because of how many great guards we had during the Beilein Era.  (For example, MAAR was a MUCH better college player than JP).

I'm not going to get into a big debate about comparing recruiting resumes, but a quick 247 search shows that Partridge is easily on Jay's level, if not higher.  Jay is for sure better for player development, and has found some diamonds in the rough, but to deny Partridge's recruiting chops is insane.  Also it's not like we hired him as our DC, he's a position coach that adds high recruiting upside.  Below are links to Chris's recruits and Jay's.

"I've been hard on Michigan…

"I've been hard on Michigan bringing back one of the most successful recruiters in school history" is a wild thing to admit.  Unless he's saying he's literally been hard about it, in which case. . .whatever wets your whistle!

A girl does not run the same…

A girl does not run the same play twice in a row, a girl must be able to adapt that play to keep the defense off guard.  When you run a faceless play, you are serving the many-faced offense.

In all seriousness it's very common to have wrinkles layered into one play.  It's hardly 5D chess, it's just necessary coaching to provide counters to previously-run plays.  Also, having played Wisco already, they probably noticed their previous reactions to this set and made the necessary adjustments.

If you carefully watch their…

If you carefully watch their sets, the roll guy or backside option is open on most plays.  Juwan is excellent at scheming guys open, but basketball open is much different than football open, your window lasts a second max before its gone.  If you put one of our past 6 point guards on this team and they would be hitting those options with much more frequency, Dug just isn't there in the awareness/decision-making category yet.

Next year's team is likely…

Next year's team is likely to have a couple guys who would definitely get drafted this year.  Mikey, Kris Jenkins, Eyabi (his combine numbers alone would get him drafted), and perhaps the guards if they decide to stay.

Michigan has it so good in…

Michigan has it so good in the S&C Departments for both Basketball and Football.  Sanderson/Herbert has to top the list for best S&C duos in the country.

I still stand by the fact…

I still stand by the fact that Brown's scheme could've been (and was for a couple years) effective if it was recruited for correctly.  In '16 and '17 when we had pre-DB recruited size up front and speed in the secondary we largely held OSU in check. Once Don's undersized DTs and slow DBs took over we never stood a chance with that aggressive blitzing/man style.

I'm 26 years old, so my…

I'm 26 years old, so my Michigan football memories only go back until about 2003.  The only answer to this for me is 2021.  All I've known in my fandom is pain against OSU, and even the win in 2011 felt a little tainted since it was against a sanctioned OSU team in limbo, and Michigan tried their very best to lose that game.  You can miss me with the moral victory/instant classic games that we lost because in all honesty those are even more painful than the '18-'19 hamblastings that we never had a shot in.  2021 felt like it was straight out of a movie.  The snow, everyone nationally writing it off as another OSU win, and the cockiness/confidence of the team despite all of that.

Let's make it 2 in a row.

As far as the Big 2 college…

As far as the Big 2 college sports goes, neutral sites makes sense only for preseason Hoops tournaments and football/hoops postseason games/tournaments.  Otherwise you're losing out on revenue (for the school and town), recruiting, and an overall better game environment.

My expectations for the season will be tossed out the window the second the ball gets kicked off on 9/3.  I will go into every week with extremely high hopes, and each Saturday will end in elation or depression.  This is the way.

I understand it's a money…

I understand it's a money thing, but it baffles me that they would ever host it anywhere besides Indy or Chicago.  Two very central locations that are also massive hubs.  Minneapolis is the far northwest corner of the conference, which makes no logistical sense for hosting.

Some schools are certainly…

Some schools are certainly more loose with how that money gets delivered.  Michigan has made strides in hooking players with deal opportunities, but it's very apparent that other schools have donors that are straight-up tossing athletes cash (see Texas A&M football, Auburn and Memphis basketball).  Just because the bag is now "legal" doesn't mean there aren't different categories of bag being thrown around.

Another interesting note is…

Another interesting note is that Moussa was on the all-frosh team but Caleb wasn't.

Yeah, this ain't it. …

Yeah, this ain't it.  Oakland Hills is the most storied club in the state, and the building that is currently burning holds so much golf history and lore.  The course also is the best chance the state of Michigan has at hosting a major championship in the future, and this probably pushes the timeframe for that back several more years.

Redshirts still exist even…

Redshirts still exist even though they don't get talked about much anymore.  Tschetter and Barnes are the projects of their class who are redshirting for development.  Tschetter projects as a Smotrycz-type with maybe more upside as a scorer.   Barnes is athletic as hell but pretty raw, would be awesome to see him develop, as athletic wings are something the current team is lacking.

Hopefully by then we'll have…

Hopefully by then we'll have figured out a way to defend a ball-screen.

If only there was a Michigan…

If only there was a Michigan fan-based blog where we could have a fun discussion about how we feel about the class, during a period of time where not many other athletic things are happening.

.....our 4th play of the game was a 93 yard TD pass.  I'm not saying stuff the pass game in a locker like earlier in the season, but there is nothing wrong with running over a bad team if you're capable of it.  Especially late in a season with two huge matchups left.

Let him cook against PSU and…

Let him cook against PSU and OSU.  See if the run game can pummel the opposition against Indiana and Maryland.  If they can, keep grinding that way.  Shorter games against inferior teams lowers injury timeframes, and the run game is less prone to wonky plays than the pass game.  If the run game struggles to get established, then by all means, let Cade sling it.

You know a position group is good when one of the best Freshman at his position struggles to see the playing time.  I just hope they don't try to force him into carries and disrupt the flow of Thunder and Lightning.  Compared to last year, the way the RB workloads have been assigned this year has been impeccable.
