NCAA Hockey Selection Show (ESPNU, 6:30)
We think we know we're headed to Allentown with PSU, Colgate and a not totally clear three seed (we think Minnesota State).
Starts in a few minutes on ESPNU, where Wisconsin just upset OSU for the women's title, 1-0. JT Compher's little sister is a Badger, so congrats to her.
Anytime ohio loses in anything is a cause to celebrate... 45-23, women's hockey, Risk, whatever.

Gophers -> Fargo
Denver -> Manchester
Michigan -> Allentown
Quinnipiac-> Bridgeport
Penn State projecting to Allentown…wooo home games. They really need to fix how the hockey playoffs work.
We beat them without our goalie and a bunch of other guys sick in actual Happy Valley.
The PSU campus is really far from Allentown and PSU is a really good draw for us.
NCAA hockey tournament....
Worst run event ever!!!!
I remember watching Meeeechigan play Minnesota in Grand Rapids MI. Probably 1997??
Place was packed, great atmosphere.
Van Andel should host pretty much every year.
I honestly don’t know why we don’t bid GR more often. Its the size city and rink you usually see for a regional. Could we joint bid with MSU and Western or something? Probably not but it would be nice if the lower peninsula Michigan teams could get a Michigan bid together every other year or so
I remember that game. A couple of folks on the other side of the arena waited until about sixty seconds into the game, stood up, and shouted "WHY HAVEN'T WE SCORED YET??".
Less than ten seconds later, Michigan scored.
It was glorious.
Couple things to note. When a school agrees to "host" as PSU is doing in Allentown, they are automatically placed in that regional. One issue is the staff from PSU, has to then run the regional. This is also why places like Van Andel are rarely used as a regional site as WMU, MSU, Ferris State are all over an hour from the venue and getting proper staff is likely a logistical issue.
Minnesota St vs St Cloud in Fargo.
Fargo region:
9 PM Thursday: Minnesota and Canisius
5 PM Thursday: St. Cloud State and Minnesota State (hmm, so projections were wrong about our three seed)
Michigan Tech makes more sense from a 1v16 integrity perspective.
Sucks having to go to Pa. To compete when you are a 1 seed and play road game.
Go Blue!!!!
Bridgeport:
Quinnipiac vs. Merrimack 530 Friday
Harvard vs. Ohio State 2 Friday
Our three should be Tech or Western.
Allentown
Friday 830: Michigan vs. Colgate
Friday 5: PSU vs. Michigan Tech
Both games on ESPNU
Forget that.
Why the fuck are we the late game?
1 seeds should always play first in this shitty format. Makes even less sense with PSU being in this region.
We're the bigger draw.
We’re always the late game. There must be a fuck Michigan exception to the rule. I think they switched the format so there is a day off between games so it is not as big of a deal.
It's because of money. We're the biggest draw in college sports.
🎶 I was sitting in a breakfast room in Allentown Pennsylvania 6 o’ clock in the morning. Got up too early, it was a terrible mistake 🎶
Beat toothpaste
Beat the toothpaste and move on
Rinse and Repeat…
Manchester:
Thu 530: Denver vs. Cornell
Thu 2: BU vs. Western
Go Terriers!
We might have to play Penn State in Allentown for the 2nd round. Boo.
😱
This is my sarcastic scared face
I'd recognize you anywhere.
NCAA committee chairman saying they felt good about putting Psu in Allentown. How about a regional in Michigan fergodsakes? At least he acknowledged my Nanooks just missing the cut (sobs and goes to sit in the corner)....
You can thank Colorado College's bitch ass whining for no games at Yost.
Isnt it the whole (old) WCHA? IIRC Michigan had 96 98 and 02 regionals where they knocked off a higher seeded WCHA team each time
To be fair, the whining was justified as we were a low seed hosting essentially a true road game for the 1 seeds. We shouldve gone top seed hosts the regional but instead the NCAA ate glue and went to neutral sites
I blame Molly.
1998 at Yost was the best. Incredible environment.
I’m happy to see BU elsewhere. They’ve been playing well.

BU lost a starting defenseman, senior Case McCarthy and one of their fastest-skating players, junior forward Nick Zabaneh to injuries in the Hockey East Tournament games over the weekend.
Because I expected Michigan and BU to finish fourth and fifth in the Pairwise and be in the same NCAA regional, I watched the BU-Providence game on Friday that BU won in overtime. The injury to McCarthy (broken collarbone from skating awkwardly into the boards) looked scary. He was lying on his back on the ice without moving for a while before trainers got to him and he eventually was carried out on a stretcher. (Video in LINK)
Basic reaction: Manchester is brutal. We got a good draw with a bid thief who's 25th in the Pairwise and the worst two seed (even if they're hosting).
I think WMU is probably as good as Tech (and vice versa) but BU is a step ahead of PSU. I'm happy not to see Minnesota St. hanging around.
As a Colgate grad, I’ll be forced to cheer for them over UM in case of that matchup Im afraid.
Wisconsin took down the favored Colgate women on the way to their championship.
And it’s happening…
MgoColgate activated!
Colgate having a good time lately. Basketball team made consecutive tourneys (right?) and now they got back into the hockey tourney
Colgate Basketball was last good in the 90s when they had NBA lottery pick Adonal Foyle. Recently, they’ve had 3 consecutive ncaa tourneys and played in four of the last 5. Played in the patriot league title 6 times in a row, so they’re doing quite well. Best 3pt shooting team in America this year. Mostly competitive in the tourney too, though haven’t yet pulled off an upset.
Colgate women’s hockey has been top 10 for the last 5 years (#3 this year) and played for the natty a few years back (lost to Clarkson).
Men’s hockey has been pretty ho-hum since the late 90s when they had Andy McDonald, but they had an amazing ecac tourney run and so snagged a playoff automatic bid.
Women’s volleyball has generally been solid as well, but they don’t generally have a chance on the national size.
Beat Col-
Wisconsin women beat Ohio State for the national championship by a score of 1-0 on a goal from Kirsten Simms of Plymouth, Michigan.
