National brand fame and recognition vs. Winning

Submitted by BoHarb on November 14th, 2019 at 1:10 PM

Its obvious that Michigan is an international brand accompanied by the fame and notoriety that come with it.  We are on top of the world in that regard, and that much is beyond reproach.

Question is, would you trade program fame and prominence for winning championships?  I wouldn't.

I couldn't imagine how humiliating it must be if we were a national unknown and people outside of Michigan didn't even recognize our brand?! Think how embarrassing it must be to wear an MSU shirt outside Michigan and not have anyone recognize you like that 3rd rate program in East Landfill.  Who cares about their meaningless multiple Big Ten Championships and CFP appearance recently if your program fame is so shitty you cant garner attention from strangers outside of Michigan!

I personally would rather be famous and well known rather than just another team that may have won a couple lucky championships lately. Our fame and prominence is what makes us relevant.  We have won enough in the past that winning now isn't really a huge issue, and is secondary to the fact that any UM fan anywhere is recognizable worldwide- I wouldn't trade that recognition, fame and prominence for anything!  GO BLUE!

Oh, for those of you that think we have to win 11+ games and/or championships to be relevant - you might want to take a quick history lesson to educate yourself on the winningnest football program in history.

Troll, don’t you have better things to do, like get a job and move out of your mothers basement? You know that going to one semester of OSU won’t qualify you to be a fry cook at McDonald’s, but don’t give up on your dreams man... By the way, there is only one “E” in “The”. They must of taught that in the second semester at OSU that you missed....

Some of you are like the kid that gets way to excited at a birthday party and says something really stupid and it just get super awkward, then everyone looks at you and thinks “uhhhh...okay”.

You're absolutely stupid if you would not want winning more than anything else. What is the point of playing if you're not gunning for trophies?

Give it 3 years once players can profit and you will start to see that the schools with fame and recognition start getting all the 5 stars.

Michigan, Notre Dame, and Texas are more famous worldwide than OSU and Bama and will bring more marketing money. prove me wrong

Okay, I'll bite.

MSU won multiple BIG titles, went to a CFP, and despite that has played .500 ball for the last 4 seasons. This all under the SAME coach, who happens to be the winningest coach in their history. So while you mock our fan base and program, there isn't an objective person in the world that would take the current situation at MSU over that at UM.

Talking about what your program did while your PED using MLB was a senior in high school is,ironically, living in the past. Hope you feel better now.

It is not a one or the other thing.

you know...Michigan can be both.

It’s a silly argument to say that Michigan isn’t winning because it plays by the rules and tries to be better.

proof?

Talk to the student athletes..ask them if they ever get the handshakes.   If they are honest, they will tel you   Heard it multiple times

the only time people post here about their pride in Michigan academics is when Michigan loses to ‘cooler poopers’ and ‘cousin f@ckers’

lets be honest...99% of the posts here are about Michigan sports teams (or Michigan’s rivals).

thats why we are all here...to talk sports.

be better.
