MS Satellite Camp Paying Off: Top 100 LB Willie Gay Loves U-M
Four-star Willie Gay of Starkville, MS, is the No. 5 LB in the country and a consensus top-100 player overall. He went to our camp in Mississippi and he loves the love we're showing him. Update from Allen Trieu:
“First off, for (Coach Harbaugh) to come all the way down here and watch us, it means a lot to us Mississippi players to show us he’s for all-over-the-country recruiting."

Willie, if you liked that sample of Harbaugh, come play at Michigan! That way you can work with Harbaugh daily.
But these camps aren't about recruiting.
/Bwahahaha ... Bwahahahahahahahah
It's almost as if showing kids you are an excellent coach is a good way to get them to come play for you...
that you give 1/2 a shit about them personally (looking at you Saban) and it's amazing what you can do!
it doesn't matter than he doesn't care about the players because they're Alabama, they'll win a lot of football games, some bowl games, get seen readily and often by scouts (plus for the plethora of great southeastern players be close to home), and have a nice path to the NFL. If Harbaugh shows that Michigan offers those things on the same level but actually you know.. gives a damn, then that will be a recruiting benefit.
In seriousness, this may not yield any big-time southern recruits this season, but if Harbaugh is able to continue camping in the South, he will be a familiar face to thousands of football players. A familiar face that is enthusiastic about them and the game.
Speaking from personal experience, effort like that can pay off years down the line. Kids invested in when they were 12 remember when they are 18.
So Harbaugh becomes a friendly face in the South. That is, incidently, what the coaches down there are really worried about.
Football player's parent's. $$$$$$$$$$. Save money on a trip.
Taking one right on the jaw, eh?
+1 historied.
...if you can get this kid and his parent(s) out of MS and into Ann Arbor for a weekend this summer, that'll help UM's chances w/prying this kid out of Starkville (where MSSt is located) or U of AL which is only 80 miles away... a tall order indeed
You can still pay players, with the added incentive of more playing time if you're limited by scholarships. Also more money for fewer players, unless parents who accept money for their kids going there are going to care about MSST's integrity. Oh wait, everyone is a hypocrit, nm.
"They show me that they want me. For them to come down here, once again, it means a lot. It showed me that they want me and they even told me to come to (this) camp.”
We've talked about it a lot here, but it is statements like this actually coming from the kids that are evidence of why these camps are a great idea - going to the trouble to come to them rather than insisting they go to you goes a long way for a lot of people in a lot of situations, including recruiting.
I saw gay love in the title and got excited. Ah well, I supposed this is still good news. Thanks OP
Willie Gay is one of the top few linebackers on our board, in my opinion, along with Baron Browning. It would be great if we could pull him out of Mississippi.
What about Drew Singleton?
I like Singleton, but he's not as good as those other two guys, IMO.
Why not one each - Singleton, Gay, Browning? Sounds good to me...
I just read, Single, Gay, Brown. For a second I thought I was on the wrong site, is it Friday yet?
I don't think Bolds has been offered by Clemson.
It sounds like Michigan has kind of cooled on Bolds a little bit. They don't seem to be recruiting him as hard as they could. My guess is that he ends up somewhere else.
I hope this makes Hugh Freeze shit his pants.
Assuming he can take that precious time away from his family to put said pants on.
Would he be Michigan football's first. . .

. . . openly Gay football player?
*YEAHHHHHH!!*
Actually....yes.
There was a Center in 1960 named Joseph Sligay, though.
Denard seemed like a pretty happy dude.
Jake Butt is a Senior and won't be around to sit next to him if he decides to go to Michigan.
Gay (6-2, 210 pounds) has narrowed his college choices to five schools: LSU, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Michigan, the only non-SEC school in that final group.
That's all Harbaugh. We don't get a sniff at thiis guy without him.
Wait until UM smacks the SEC champion in a playoff game or for the title. Then the recruits will be dropping like its hot.
These camps may not influence many kids for 2017 or even 2018, but its the future classes of 2019, 2020 etc that may attend these camps and get to see and expiernce our coaching staff first hand will go a long way to devolping relationships.
"Coach Harbaugh, it appears that MGoBlog User DMack wants you to go HARD after Willie Gay, KJ Hamler, and Darnay Holmes"
"By god Denise he's right. All the players I've been going HARD after pale in comparison to these three, randomly selected message board players. Get DMack on the phone, he's my new recruiting front man. Someone tell my ingrate son Jay that he's fired"
This thread disappoints me with all the jokes about this kid's name. They are lazy "jokes" at best and offensive at worst.
If UM actually had a chance to get this kid into the program but he were to see a thread like this...SMH.
Yeah...it would probably be the first time he ever heard jokes about his name. He would be devastated, I'm sure.
I get that he's probably heard the jokes but I also know that the site frowns up "clever" things like O$U or Urban Cryer.
I just think that "Gay" jokes are lazy.
Gay jokes are lazy. So are most puns. I just don't think he'd be that offended by seeing gay jokes. When you grow up with a name that's easily derided, you get used to it pretty quickly.
