We'll be Champions

I wonder if the time window has more to do with the end of the game and it being close, or if the game being at noon reduced viewership slightly. Probably the former, but you never know.

I don’t wish to imply other traditional Ann Arbor venues are - or will be - involved in the future, but Pizza Bob’s makes incredible shakes - and, there’s a rumor that a prospect, their family, and a coach may have stopped by and grabbed a shake as they started out their campus tour.

Suggests to me that UM cannot leave the B10 on its own, and that the crown jewel piece of our value is tied to OSU.  We score big on other games as well, but this is bigger than anything else by 100%.

In terms of viewers on the national scale, the circumstances has to be right. A perfect storm and this year was it was teams ranked 2 vs 3, both undefeated, both in the CFP playoff hunt, the signgate scandal. Add to that an acting head coach coach vs Ryan Day on the sidelines and then the setting' at the Big House in A2.

If both teams had a regular season loss and ranked just inside the Top 10 and no B-10 Title or CFP on the line, the view numbers would have been lower, maybe getting around 10 million/

Michigan does score big in all other regular season games so they remain the crown jewel. The signgate scandal just made them more radioactive so to speak.

That is like suggesting you shouldn't leave your job for a better overall lifestyle because someone else could leave the organization for more money.  It doesn't matter what is tied to OSU if Michigan can operate in a more dignified environment, then Michigan has the resources and opportunities to make it work.  Michigan might have to settle for slightly less money, but it might be a very fair trade to not be stabbed in the back by a wealthy but abusive spouse.

I was one of the >3MM viewers that was only tuned in from 3:30-3:45, because my anxiety gets the best of me.  I decided it was safest to hold off on watching until it was pretty close to decided.  I spent the time from 12-1pm shopping for presents, 1-2pm eating a pizza at a restaurant with no tvs, and 2-3 taking a long bath.  Then, and only then, did I dare turn on the TV.

I didn't watch. I was with my son looking at cars, completely distracted, but not checking on the game either. I'd look at the time and know about what quarter. Then I got a notification from the Athletic at halftime and saw the score for a split second but didn't know who was winning. That really made me nervous. Finally, we were driving home, and my son said, "The game is over." Literally one second later, the phone rang and it was my husband and I knew we had won because he wouldn't call to tell me we had lost. We recorded it and I watched when I got home. I don't think that counts against viewership but I don't know for sure.

I am with you. I did the same thing.  I went to the gym and swam 20 laps and showered and ate something and got periodic updates until the very end.  I'm 55 and don't need my heart racing at 180 bpm for extended periods of time any more.  I've already rewatched the game 3 times hahah!

Agree 100% that Michigan should team up with Ohio State to demand a sharing linked to viewership, just to stick a finger to Petitti and the whining ADs.

And, I think the Iron Bowl might have had its lowest viewership in the last decade.

Does anyone know what the ratings were for the Bama v Chattanooga game about a week ago?

Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff averaged 2.34M viewers for its special three-hour show from Ann Arbor. The show brought in an average of 4.36M viewers for the 11 AM hour leading up to The Game, a 5% YoY increase from last year’s Michigan-Ohio State matchup. (link); ESPN College GameDay, also in Ann Arbor, averaged 2.4M viewers overall and 3.2M in the final hour, making it the sixth most-watched show in GameDay history. (link)

We need to be paid fair share.  Michigan is carrying teams like MSU, Northwestern, Purdue, and other BIG schools for them to have a say in this "scandal".

In the next round of negotiations, Michigan considers the SEC.

So much to conclude from this:

Michigan State and even Penn State don't really move the needle. Illinois? LOL.  It's all about The Game.

As far as the inevitable post-NCAA landscape, Michigan can choose the path and Ohio will follow.

Right or wrong (I vote for right), the B1G and NCAA cannot afford to hammer M beyond something silly just to keep the narrative going. They could conceivably ban JH from coaching the third quarter of two games next year. Imagine the viewership as Jim is escorted by police off the field and forced to sit in the locker room for 15 minutes of field time (two hours of real time).

Leave the B1G. - actually they already left us (completely shit on us)

and fuck Ohio

get our best deal elsewhere

the negotiations for M vs Ohio can happen after that

One thing to always remember about OSU-Mich is that, unlike almost all other major sporting events, it faces competition within its own sport in its time slot. ABC and ESPN both had a game on (A&M-LSU and UK-UL), which drew 3.5 million between them. The Game easily would’ve topped 20M if this weren’t the case.
