First off, if we are counting DJ Wilson and Donnal, then we have 5 guys who are a legit 6'10. Second, statistically speaking, Donnal was quite an efficient big man in th B10 last year. It's amazing how much shit he gets when he was 3rd best in the conference in effective field goal percentage, top 10 in offensive rating, 8th in offensive rebounding rate, 13th best in block rate and 13th best in free throw rate. He was much, much more important to our team's success than people give him credit for. Just because he wasn't as good as Hammel or Bryant or Costello doesn't mean he should have been on a bench somewhere.

Doyle's eFG was better than Donnal's last season—significantly better. How important was he to U-M's success?

Stats for U-M's bigs are incredibly deceiving. Our bigs have such a narrow role on offense, and of course those figures tell you nothing about their ability to check, say, Alex Olah. Donnal was important in that we basically had no other option for much of the season. But there's a reason that Wagner is a legitimate threat to pass him despite having, like, three good games last season.

That's kinda the point. We don't need Donnal to be all world for us to succeed. He did what he needed and played pretty well as he found his game in B10 play. My point was before the season there were plenty of people questioning why he was wasting a scholarship when he had actually played just one year. Donnal was a serviceable starter and would have played significant time on most B10 teams, starting on a handful of them. Wagner will be possibly passing Donnal because he is that good, not because Donnal is bad. When he came in last year, his coach overseas thought he would be a two-and-done and word around the program is the coaches agreed. Wagner was a legit top 50 prospect and him starting this year is more about him being really good, not Donnal being bad

Is this height with shoes or without shoes? If it's without, then he's over 7 feet on the basketball court. The shoes can sometimes add about 2 inches to the height. I'll guess we'll find out eventually.

Probably the best thing to come out of the NBA combine is actual data to document the ridiculous height inflation.  Everybody does it*

*Exceptions: 7 footers afraid of expectations (ahem, Kevins Durant & Garnett) and dudes who are 5'9 or less i.e., so short that their only option is to wear it as a badge of honor.

a 1/2 combo guard and a 3/4 combo forward so that we should have the 2/3 combo guard-forward "position" covered if our 4/5 combo big can adequately play rotation minutes and/or if our combo of freshman centers can combine to play 20 minutes then perhaps our German big can be a 4/5 combo forward than we'll be sitting back in our seats happily eating Combos.
