Sharing Trolls Counts as Trolling: Sometimes desperately lazy outlets hire trolls, or trolls who are good at social media build enough of a following, that they become a headache for us, spreading hate or falsehoods. Because having them repeated on our site can directly harm us, if you're on the message board you should be aware that posting something from them could get you banned. They are:

  • SirYacht/Chat Sports/James Yoder - Fake news merchant who likes to make up plausible rumors or report non-sure things to get a false scoop.
  • Any local Spartan media when they talk about Michigan. Unless they're yelling "MAKE PLAYS!"
  • Rainer Sabin: Finebaum wannabe hired by the Freep to troll Michigan fans.
  • Tony Garcia: Same deal. Sparty the Freep hired to be a troll.
  • Steve Deace: Curiously well-funded white supremacist radio host who's got such a small Michigan following you can safely assume anyone posting positively about him is Deace and ban him again. Creates lots of burner accounts to promote himself. Recently booted by Maven for advocating lynching.
  • Barstool: People who took the freedom of young internet too seriously because really what they wanted to do the whole time was propagate bad ideas.

I wasn’t advocating hiring either. I was saying that if people think  it’s okay to hire one group of fanatics how then can they say it’s wrong to hire another? It was a comment directed at moral hypocrisy.

I would go back and restate my point more clearly next time if I could. But  I want to make it clear that I was not advocating for hiring antisemites.

Well, I tried to clean it up a bit anyway. It's too late for me to care much about precision, but I think I got the worst of it out of there. I honestly was not prepared for that to cause quite so much controversy - seemed like a straightforward "you have to go" scenario really. Anyway, back to making slow but steady progress in "Tears Of The Kingdom" (new Legend Of Zelda game, for the uninitiated).

“Slurs being flung around” is a gross mischaracterization of what occurred. One person used the T-word. 42-27 got a bunch of downvotes for being overly judgmental and came here to complain.

 The back-and-forth that occurred after the one utterance was educational and may have actually changed some minds. The only one who might need a timeout is 42-27.

Don't apologize. Anyone who's been paying even the slightest iota of attention to anything in the last few years shouldn't dismiss any of it. There is copious mental masturbation on this site, and it's painfully obvious when a thread like that to be deleted so flippantly. It's definitely worth the discussion. Even right wing conspiracy publication NY Times had a front page long form article on it not long ago.

It's not about the media source; it's about the story, and how much value it would be to the message board to have it up there for "interesting" purposes versus how much value my site loses by having "Aliens" on the message board. I appreciate the time and presentation but please, we're a Michigan sports site--I do not want to be the place on the internet where people come to talk about cover ups of aliens. Message board comments, whatever--I don't think it's that political. It's just out there, and can turn people off.

I didn't create a thread when paleontologists literally found Hobbits (or as best as we can tell, an island-pigmy offshoot of Homo Erectus), even though that sort of stuff fascinates me, because it's too easily misconstrued to paint the site as place for Michigan fans who believe in fae.

I just finished my initial inspection of the Juneteenth thread and have started on removal of several inappropriate/inflammatory remarks (which means numerous non-offensive comments threaded under said posts will also disappear).  Pretty damn sad that a few here felt it necessary to soil a well-intentioned OP.

I don't think there will be any bannings but maybe a suspension or two might happen.  Whether or not that ends up the case, I'm calling out "Darker Blue" right now for spamming other threads with his complaint regarding a post made by "Booted Blue".  That's NOT the way to call attention to problems on the MGoBoard---let's instead bring it here to the Mod Sticky thread so it can be dealt with on a timely basis.  I'll be cleaning up those threads too.

If I find it necessary, I'll later edit in more info and/or address concerns.

[edit @ 3:35 pm:  I deleted comment(s) by the following three individuals: Rick Snow, Booted Blue in Pa, and Darker Blue, lightly edited a couple more, then locked 🔐 the thread again.  How about we  keep our discussions civil rather than engage in personal attacks and political flame wars?]

Apology not necessary but accepted. I see where you were coming from and know you meant well in your objections; it's just that we gotta have the Mod Sticky as the proper avenue for dealing with controversy and disputes.

Mark Zuckerburg vs Elon Musk: they are “dead serious” deleted, not worthy of taking up space while bumping another thread off the board's first page.

The thread's author (Ezekiels Creatures) also failed to label it "OT", not to mention his propensity towards upvoting his own posts, something he's done at least 3 times today already.

And while yes, it is what's referred to as "OT season" right now, this doesn't mean we're going to look the other way and allow garbage threads to go unchecked.  Although I'm hoping it doesn't become necessary, maybe we should consider dishing out a warning followed by an account suspension for a couple weeks to those who habitually spam the board.

Didn't think banhammer, but definitely a call-out. As you said, clearly a horses ass. Then there was the unnecessary evoking of a "Desantis magnet" for Florida, as if nobody had ever transplanted there before he took office, and a swipe at California as if it was relevant at all to the discussion at hand. Basically, going political in a stupid way.

Locking OT: Supreme Court rejects OSU's Attempt to Have Wrestler Abuse Claims Dismissed.  Unsurprisingly, the thread became a battlefield of politics.

I'm going to see if anything other than the OP's post is salvageable.  I also posted a comment within the OP, in the hope that others will know better than to start another post on the subject.
